Tir1990,
Incredible game, 1 issue with iOS port
The first time I played Dune on PS4 was very recently, and I honestly had a spiritual experience, a first for me with a video game. The visuals and gameplay are so simplistic but even without any writing or dialogue they tell a very moving story, with a dreamlike sense of sacredness and a deep touch of humanity on a desolate alien world. The multiplayer aspect of the game is what really binds you to the experience, in my opinion.

On this iOS version, you’ll find the multiplayer experience is lacking. I’m not sure why, but you simply can’t find another player to travel with you for the entire length of the journey. It may just be that because this is a mobile platform, people are swiping the app off in the middle of things, although I can’t see this being a “pick up, play, put down” kind of game, so I’m guessing it’s a connectivity issue. This is an older game with kind of a niche following so I can see why, with “Sky: Children of Light” doing so well now, Journey is a low priority, or maybe there is some issue that makes multiplayer of this kind harder on iOS for reasons I wouldn’t understand as a layperson.

Journey gets 5 stars for PlayStation, and I could easily say 10/5 stars, but 4 stars from me for iOS because you typically lose the companionship aspect of the gameplay.
B3ARC4T,
Truly Fun and Emotionally Powerful
A really enjoyable game. There can be so much toxic behavior in the gaming world sometimes, but this isn’t that kind of game. I feel lonely very often, and don’t often see friends or socialize; I didn’t know this game had multiplayer when I started playing it, and had played through it maybe six times alone, so I was quite shocked when I ran into someone. See, I have a disability; I cannot feel my hands, and the muscles in my fingers don’t work, but the player I ran into patiently helped me and stayed with me even though I am very clumsy, and repeatedly fell off of a tall structure at one point. We had to start over many times because of me before we succeeded, and it would be very understandable if it was frustrating for them, since they wouldn’t know why I was struggling with certain things that would probably have been much easier if my hands worked, and yet they still played through that part with me.

After reading more about it, I know this game’s designers intended for their to be an emotional connection bond/connection formed between anonymous players who run into each other, and that the lack of text or speech comms is meant to add to that, and for me, that was an incredibly powerful experience. Also, it’s pretty cool that if I can play this game on iOS, then it is probably pretty accessible for other players with motor disabilities that affect their hands.
FanOnAJourney,
Fantastic Game & Tips
Changing review from 3 star to 5 since upgrading from iPad 5th gen to iPad Pro 2 fixed majority of bugs, glitches and companion connection. The game is breathtaking, aesthetic and cinematic. It has an incredible seamless flow in transitioning the angle of the camera as you move around. There’s a level making the sun so immersive you can feel the warmth of it shining on your face. Though short, this is my favorite open world game topping other mainstream games I’ve played because of Journey’s simplicity, eliminating any words or text. No need for weapons or fighting. After switching to IPad Pro 2, FINALLY I have completed the game beginning to end with a companion two nights in a row. What I did: wore red robe with all patterns. Broken Bridge: Unlocked first part of bridge. Collected all symbols. Unlocked all small machine parts that do not affect the bridge. Sat on the rock connected to the 2 ribbon war machine left side of the bridge. Be VERY patient. Screen transition is okay when you make your character sit. Once in a while disconnect and reconnect internet but not often. When someone appears, stay very close together. Unitedly activate things. And play all the way through. Btw, I was connected with beginner players. Story is touching and experience memorable.m
KatiesCritterz,
Beautiful but glitchy
As many others did, I learned of Journey because I play Sky Children of the Light. Both games are similar but also so different from each other. I loved and hated how this game forced me to slow down. Maybe it would have been better if I used a controller but touch was difficult to walk slowly.

My overall experience was positive until the last level. I basically saw nobody else while playing this but I was accompanied by another on the last level till they got to one spot and it was like the wind was too strong for them to walk. They reached an invisible wall. I had to continue without them. Then a little further I couldn’t not walk forward either. I restarted the app and got to the part where my companion had been stuck and I hit the same invisible barrier and had to restart the app again. Finally on my third attempt I was able to go up the summit.

There were also times in earlier levels where the game just froze and I could do nothing besides restart the app. Kind of disappointing. I probably shouldn’t compare this game to Sky but I was a bit surprised how short Journey was and there’s really not much replay value.
Just Julian?,
Ohhhhh man lemme tell ya that its worth it fasho
This game is incredible, first time i've played it and i've played sky for a couple years before and I sure can say that I think I love the concept of this game way more. There are no micro transactions and the scenery, music, and visuals are stunning enough to keep you playing multiple times through. I hv also been lucky enough to meet plenty of helpful and fun ppl along the way, messing around and having a good time until we sadly had to say goodbye at the end haha. I sure wish they would update this game though and add a more customizable ui, add more tricks your character can do while flying, let us be able to add people as friends, add more unlock able secrets in game which could be items and places. It would also be cool to have a social area like in sky where u could just fly around forever with other ppl haha. Overall, a game worth 2 hours that you are sure to cherish. Thanks skygamecompany!
Hmm...Interesting...,
Amazing port with a few problems
Note: You can increase the game resolution and graphics by going to the the game setting listing under the setting on your iPad or iPhone. Go to the app setting from there and you can adjust it to be higher for those who complained about the graphics. Idk why they didn’t put the option in game but it is there.

I had no problem with the game controls. They worked perfectly in my opinion But it was rare that you pair with some one there seems to be connection issues which make staying with a person the entire game difficult which ruins the experience some. There are glitches that can be addressed as well but they seem to appear only when playing with another person so they might be related. But how I love that I was able to play through this lovely game on my iPad mini. I played this on my iPad mini 5 and it played flawlessly. Love love love the visual and story is very good.
Infieldapril2,
Great game!👍🏻
Just like it said in the title it is a great game, single player is perfect. My primary reason for writing a review is that I hope the developers notice it and fix a few multiplayer bugs.

1 If two players get on a meditation circle at the same time they just start endlessly chest bumping each other.

2 Sometimes textile creatures glitch and freezes up, this almost never happens in single player but in multiplayer it happens pretty frequently. Also The textile whale in the light tower is exceptionally prone to this behavior.

3 If there are multiple players present during the scene where the flying stone sentinel makes it’s first appearance then all players become camera locked on the event. In addition Once that happens the stone sentinel never activates.
Note: this scene plays perfectly when only one player is present.

4 If there is more than one player on the mountain(snow terrain) then wind affects are not present nor are any players ribbons at risk of being torn.

5 If there is more than one player on the mountain(snow terrain) then the flying stone sentinels will freeze and remain motionless in the air.
bethkaty70,
My opinions on Journey. (And my decisions)
First off, I thought Journey was good game. It had good graphics, good music, and great art style. Thinking that it was made by the same company that created Sky, the two games would be similar. From my perspective, I love playing Sky because the game makes me feel at peace since I can go wherever, I can do whatever I wanna do, and I can fly around as long as I want. While Journey is a little more serious and life threatening than Sky. You can’t show any expression, there isn’t any explanation to what the creatures are, and adding on to that I almost died playing it the first time because of a creature in two parts of the game. By the way, these creatures are way more scary than the Dark Dragons! So what do I do? I decide to start a new Journey but once I do, the nice creatures weren’t leading me the same way that they did the first time. Maybe the game has a glitch? I don’t know and I don’t care.
caityhdd94,
Super beautiful and unique game, but...
So I found out about this game through Sky: Children of the Light and I became immediately enchanted with the story, music, and visuals.

I will say that the game is A LOT shorter than I had expected for the price.

A big one for me was the glitching/bugs when playing with another player. The carpets didn’t help me up the building like they did when I played alone. Not too big of a deal if you and your companion can help each other get up the building. HOWEVER, during the climb up the mountain with another player is where the big glitches were for me. One of us would get stuck in a never-ending wind (disappointing that we were unable to finish the game together because of a glitch/bug) or there would be no wind at all and there would be no enemies, as well. It really takes away from the experience of playing such a beautiful game so uniquely with another person.

Another big one was, and I don’t know if it’s a connectivity issue or something or if its just that there aren’t a lot of iOS players playing the game these days, that during my first play-through I ran into three players but ever since then I’m lucky to just run into one person during the journey.

Screen rotation and controls got a little wanky from time to time, too, but other than that I really like the game!
JessieLuvsMario,
Never encountered another player
I’m a huge fan of this game, the first version I ever played was on the PS3 which I still have, but wanted to give this version a shot because it is my FAVORITE game, and their other game called Flower is great on the iPad. I played through this version of journey once, and it was beautiful! Obviously the controls aren’t perfect but it’s still completely playable. However, my biggest complaint is that not once did I encounter another player. And that’s the MAIN trait about this game. The journey is beautiful and difficult and tragic but the beauty of it is that you experience it with another player. I’ve played before as a solo player and while it’s doable it’s just not as interesting especially as a player who is very familiar with the game. Please fix this issue and you will get 5 stars...the game is truly a beautiful masterpiece!
