Amemendy,
A pretty good app to learn hiragana and katakana... But with few issues
I really like this app. The practice feature is great. And it helps you in the journey of learning Japanese... But there are a few issues with it. Sometimes it’s a little weird the pronunciation of every symbol. To explain this better it’s like a Japanese robot is talking, but it is barely understandable. Plus, when writing the kanas in the correct order,(with the practice feature in hard mode) the machine just gets exited and tells you it’s correct, even if you haven’t even finished to write it. This maybe a little confusing for some users (including me) and sometimes I just forget some details from the kanas that are very important to read ir properly. In conclusion, I think it is a great app to learn hiragana and katakana, but it can improve. Thank you for reading until the end and have a great day :)
Edit: nope, this is the best out there <3
Delvicon,
Excellent quality app!
I went though a lot of free Japanese apps while trying to learn hiragana and katakana. This one was the best quality I found, and it is free! The ability to customize quizzes, daily notifications, and especially the adjustable and customizable difficulty levels, are all awesome. I feel that the difficulty level adjustment was the boost I needed to really start memorizing, not just guessing. I thought that I would never be able to memorize all the exact strokes for the characters, so for a long time I left the Handwriting mode disabled. I was totally wrong! With the help of this app I am now able to read and write 100% of the characters in both sets. Kudos to the dev(s) for an amazing app, with a great look and feel and an excellent experience overall!
sonsothunder,
Awesome app - just what I was looking for!
I’ve been learning Japanese with Duolingo and although I had learned some Hiragana and Katakana, it is not very good at reviewing those, so I was looking for a good flash card app and this one was perfect!

I can build lists of problematic characters and drill down on them, do quizzes of any number/type of character, with or without modifiers. I can test recognition, writing the characters, or a combination! It keeps track of statistics, provides reminder options, and more!

Other than a few minor display/redraw bugs (for example, the Statistics screen sometimes draws the title “Statsitics” on top of the graphs at the top of the screen - going to another screen and coming back fixes it), this is the perfect app for learning Kana.
Scotty Cordello,
Perfect for memorizing kana
Great for just loading your brain up with all the many, many symbols of hiragana and katakana. Definitely go for it, it's the best I've seen.

Pro tip: if you want to see the "mastered" line go up quickly, use the "lowest streak" option. Also, if you want to specifically practice writing, select only writing - for some reason the auto test really favors reading when you select both.

Something I'd like to see is an option to read symbols together in the context of real words. I get that this is just to build familiarity with the symbols and not a vocabulary lesson, but I think the two go hand in hand. I haven't checked out their other apps yet, so maybe I'll find that feature on one of those.
RainbowGaming,
Learning Hiragana + Katakana
Good app. Efficient app. Go try it! The app’s free unlike other services and helps you learn (as well as keeping track) of your hiragana and katakana alphabet. I already knew hiragana before downloading but knew basically none of katakana and this app helped me memorize the alphabet in only one day.

Ig the down side is that it doesn’t have the option (I actually don’t know if I just couldn’t find where to toggle it or if there actually just isn’t this option) to let you practice one alphabet at a time, so when I tried to learn katakana, I actually went on Tofugu to get a grip of all the characters before practicing on this app. But overall, great app for learning Hiragana and Katakana! Good luck on ur japanese-learning journey!!
MrMagicMan101,
Stellar.
This app is such an excellent resource, and I cannot stress enough how much I love that it is FREE. Not only that but it is super high quality, in terms of its UI and tracking statistics. It doesn’t have pesky ads and it doesn’t pop up “rate us”-type notifications every second either. It does literally everything I can think of RIGHT. Like, oh my goodness it’s so good.

The only improvement I could think of is having a vibration intensity slider (on top of the existing toggle) in the settings menu. I love the haptic feedback, though it does feel a teensy bit strong for my taste.

Otherwise, a fantastic app in basically all facets. I can’t wait to see how this app and the other two in the trio improve throughout time! Phenomenal work~
Zali,
Extremely good, especially with an Apple Pencil
I’ve simply been looking for a good way to hammer kana into my poor old brain. While my language apps do a good job of introducing kana, there’s nothing like a good hour of drilling to really make it stick.

What I love about this app is that it takes written input. Therefore, I am able to write kana using my apple pencil instead of a keyboard (your finger will also work). With the language apps I was always typing and since typing is literally just romaji -> kana…. I was having a very hard time actually remembering the kana when I wanted to write something out. This app has helped me move past this since I have to write the kana from memory now :D.

I also love the fairly zen interface, the app knows what it is and keeps usability as it’s first concern rather than trying to be overly cutesy or being overly friendly with the user. You just open it up, quickly select the kana you want to practice and start practicing. The progress metrics are simple to understand and easily accessed. This app is NO NONSENSE and I love it.

I will absolutely be using this app to perfect my kana :)
Ablepraxis,
Best yet kana practice found, look no further, this does the job splendidly
Wow, I’ve seen/used many apps offering kana practice but this one actually allows custom selections for targeting type of characters or personal choice to focus on. Very cool yet surprisingly lacking on many kana apps. Furthermore several options to practice (ez multiple choice, a type romaji answer and even option to trace strokes free form) Very nice flexibility that isn’t typical. Ofcouse audio samples available too. It includes both katakana & hiragana with all variations. Plus you can’t beat the price. Bravo on fantastic app, elegant in simplicity yet not lacking in features. Thanks much for your efforts. I appreciate & endorse your well crafted software.
Emily(╹◡╹),
good for learning
like i said it is good for memorising and learning hiragana and katakana, it use a fun way to learn and memories with an easy mode that is just multiple choice and a hard mode where you have to type out the romanji. as well as an automatic mode that will give you an easy one first then when the next time the question shows up it is hard. it tracks what days you have studied and after every practice test it shows you what one’s you know well and not so well. not so good at introducing the characters to you but that is easy to overcome just need to look up YT videos and have a note book to write the characters in and boom ready to start memorising.
Misty😸,
Amazing App For Beginners
Absolutely Amazing! I already know Every Kana, but I downloaded this app just for fun but I will just say that this is perfect for any beginner of Japanese. When I started learning Kana, it was very hard to try to memorize them, I wish I had found this app sooner! The app has no in app purchases, you have access to learn how to write the kana in a test, and how to read them. It is very amazing how accurate and perfect this app is, it’s amazing. I was expecting many many flaws, but it’s very much so perfect! Anyone who downloads this app will learn Kana so easily! The app even gives you the option to read an explanation of what certain rules are. Highly recommend!
