macstermind,
Best app for Chinese
My favorite is the reader, better than Pleco. Get the premium version it’s worth it. You can even select different font styles and have the choice of mainland, TW, HK for voice reading. Also character reference on the side of the reading pane and can add words to flash card practice. Characters are large. I will say that the character photo scanner didn’t work force the first time I tried but I haven’t tried again. If they had a stroke order or practice function for learning to write this would be even better.
silvertogold,
Rare app
Only a few apps out there that allow you to write a character that you don’t know and allow you to find it after you draw it. Definitions comes out right away. Also has a speaker function that pronounces the character. On top of that it has function that draws the correct stroke order and how it looks like in calligraphy. Great app.+++
Bram Lambrus,
Stellar free app
This app is incredibly helpful for offline translation - I have a decent foundation in Chinese but weak vocabulary, and use this app to find the right phrase for chatting with my family when I visit China. Really helpful that it translates both ways, navigates smoothly, and looks good. Only recommendation would be to help identify the more commonly used phrases, as some of the listed translations are more archaic.
swangmin,
Can no longer paste sentences to translate
New version doesn’t allow you to paste in sentences to parse all the Chinese characters. It offers a “split into syllables” option but it just splits every character, which is useless if a word is two characters. Completely messes up my use case for the app.

Handy!
I found this free app really handy and used it for several years. Recently I got Pleco which has more capabilities, but KT certainly remains a highly functional and well designed app overall. I also like that it uses the Creative Commons CC-CEDICT (also used by Pleco and MDBG) which incorporates new terms from web sources, giving a sense of contemporary language. Thank you KT!
Matttop,
Once Great
This app is regularly updated, but perhaps that is the problem? It works great on my tablet, but on the iphone you type in pinyin and choose characters and then want to zoom in and see each character or show someone even older than me full screen and the app glitches. Go back to KISS method. Keep It Simple Stupid, because now I hesitate to pull the phone out knowing it wont do what it once did.
司馬卓,
Favorite app
Great for study. Would only ask that the developer include a way to have Chinese text in ‘Reader’ mode also change color to indicate tones. Color tone feature currently only available in dictionary entries. Keep up the great work! 加油
pyuen2047,
Need option to translate to Simplified Or Traditional Chinese as it has always been?
I had been using KTdict-CE app for many years. However when I updated the App recently I found that it now only provide translations in simplified Chinese characters instead of the usual Traditional Chinese, can there be a choice that users can set their preferences? Thanks

Great app
I use it all the time. If it had a section that include finding stroke order and finding a word using pin yin, this would be the perfect app for me. But still a great app better than 95% of similar apps I tried. I’m trying to relearn my Chinese so I have a little bit of head start interns of understanding certain things. So it’s a great app for me.
Fatgeorgeranch,
Used to be favorite now it is the worst
They just ruined a really good app with a really bad update. I can no longer type in Chinese and quickly find a word. Settings are defaulted with a large font which even tough is set to smallest settings is huge. The app now gives you no choice but to scroll endlessly through proper nouns in English, then pinyin with everything defaulting to a-z order. I want my money back after using this for five years. You really messed it up! 😒
