Jky14,
Easy to remember words!
I started on this app when my now husband and I were dating... he speaks Lao! I learned a lot of phrases on here that I use with my mother in law. The best practice is to speak directly with someone but When I’m alone I get on this and I remember a lot of phrases from the first time I used it! It might be really proper words that people don’t use but it’s a start somewhere.
ANOI337,
Very surprised
I love the fact that there is a Laotian app but it is very limited. Please don't make this a useless app cause we already have alot of people that aren't interested in the people and country and cause we definitely need people to understand us better in order help Lao people so we don't lose our culture and language like the American Indians!!!
shinkeikairo,
Limited but cute
If I read one more complaint about tone marks... The average non-polyglot doesn't even know what to do with a tone mark when they see one. This isn't a master language program; you can't expect to learn more than a few bare bones phrases from it. The pronunciation is not off; someone who has never spoken Lao or Thai before will have a very difficult time duplicating some language sounds. This is especially true for native English speakers. However, Laotians are not so mean that they won't try to understand you and correct you if you're screwing up their language; usually they're grateful that you're even trying.
Tokyo Jim,
Completely Useless
This application is a joke. It might be useful if you never needed to say any number over 10 (but at 8500 Kip to the US dollar, just getting to 10 won't help you buy anything), or mention any day other than today or tomorrow, but in the real world, the limited vocabulary will leave you frustrated.

Then there's the problem of pronunciation. Since it does not provide the tone marks, your chances of being understood are close to nil. Neither can you show your screen to the person you're trying to speak with, because this application does not provide the translations written in Lao.

It took me almost a half hour to download this app (connectivity is very bad in Laos) and it was a complete waste of time. Why do they even bother?
Hydrokool,
Great free app
Great free app. Would love to pay for a more complete version in Lao. Depending on the area of Laos you're in, the words and accents are correct.
Clyparkr,
Pretty good app
This is a pretty good app to learn some basic Laotian. My wife is Laotian and this will be a nice starting place for me to learn a few more sayings. I wish there were some other day to day phrases or words here.

All in all it's pretty good and easy to hear what the people are saying. I hope there is an update soon with added stuff.

Keep up the good work.

Needs more content!
So far the app is great. My boyfriend is Lao so it's really helpful as I'm trying to learn Laotian to speak with his family, etc. I know quite a bit more words than is even on here, but the listening helps a lot. There REALLY needs to be more content!! It would be an amazingggg app if so :)
Notsochiny,
Disappointing app!
My family speaks the language fluently, so i've been wanting to learn. It turns out many of the phrases are actually Thai and some have very awkward vocabulary, some of the big phrases can be said in much simpler words. Some if the grammar I completely off as well. Also, the foreigner in the audio says "penis" multiple times instead of "I". It should be mentioned that the inflection is very important when speaking Lao. One slip and you're saying a completely different word.

Lao Learner
Great app to Learn basic Lao phrases. It has sound for some words, but not all, but it helps with the most simple ones like numbers and greetings. I recommend to anyone visiting Laos or learning the language to take a look at this app.
Ares916,
Drug phrases??
Very simplistic app, but I highly doubt you'll need to learn to say "Those drugs don't belong to me." if you travel to Laos. You may need to learn to day it in Thai if you were to go to Bangkok.
