17Me1717,
Fantastic app for planning for where the natural lighting will be.
This is a fantastic app for knowing where the natural lighting will be. Super easy to understand and to use. Obviously extremely useful for photography lighting choices, but has many other uses as well. At any day / time of the year you can figure out where the sun will be shining, inside and out. This is great for interior design, including wall, drapery and furniture color choices, to placement of various furniture and activities within a room. Planning a wedding for next June, make sure the Bride and Groom are neither squinting, nor in the shade. This app showed us just how good our guesses were for where we placed shade trees on the south side of our house after moving in. Next time, we won’t have to guess - we can figure out exactly where will be best. Great for pool and sun-dependent landscaping choices. Great for architects to get a quick idea of how they might site their building, well before getting into too much building detail or spending bucks doing full annual computer sun simulations. Great for HVAC Contractors and Engineers (me) for doing initial airflow balance planning. Great for astronomy buffs and general science nerds!! Helps me know when I can expect to let my cabin-fevered cats out on the back deck in early spring. Love it! Will support this app forever!! Thanks!!
Capt. Alan,
The Best by far!
LightTrac is by far the best way for anyone who wants to envision, actually see, and follow all the details of how the sun effects your home, vacation place, sailboat, or anywhere as the Sun rises in the east (in precise degrees on compass), elevates in degrees, during the day, sets, and the duration of various models of darkness.

For anyone interested in the place and environment on land or sea, “Don’t leave home without LightTrac”!

Rivervillageperson,
Great app - I use it regularly
Update - I still really like this app and its simplicity. I have all the other more expensive and complex apps, but I still visit this one first. My previous comments still apply, it would be nice to see a few changes:

Still worth it. But would benefit from having buttons, such as locations, more intuitive. Interface still a little clunky and doesn’t seem to take full advantage of later iOS versions. I would be willing to buy it again, I’ve had this app since my first iPad (1).
TJ Teru,
Great app!!
I’ve had this app for years and I’m constantly amazed at how often I use it. In addition to many photography uses, I just did some “what if” experiments to see where the sun would shine in if we installed some new windows in the house. We’ve used it to figure out sun exposure at camping sites and so much more. Great app!
Photog-mom,
Tool for photographers
I use LightTrac to see where the sun is and at what angle for photo shoots at different times of the day. It has definitely helped with the planning. I have also used it when family members were going to build a house and hey wanted to see where the sun would be at various times of the year.
#allaboutlight,
Excellent resource!
This is an excellent tool to track the location of the sun or moon at a particular location for different days of the year. I have several locations saved so I can easily check the changing light. The information about the moon phases is also very helpful. I wouldn’t be without this app.
Buffalo469,
LightTrac App
LightTrac is a very useful application that we use in our business to help us with locating Solar arrays. In just a few minutes we can determine the best location for the system throughout the year. The App is also very useful in planning photo shoots for best light. Thank you LightTrac for making my job easier. E Hill, CEO Mechanical and Electrical Contractor.
Frustrated player 606,
Does everything it promises ...
Know exactly when, and in what direction, the sun and moon will rise and set. I am amateur photographer, and I like early morning shots when on vacation. Also sunsets. Can plan my day knowing where I have the cleanest shots, what time I have to be there, and knowing where the light is coming from.
kayness,
Very useful for Landscape Photographers
I have been a large format photographer for almost 20 years and found this app to be very helpful in planning my photo shoots....it not only gives you information about the sun's position, but also moon info...and satellite shots so you can anticipate your day (or evening)
SOU812,
Not just a photography app.
This is a great app for anyone who needs to know where the sun (or moon) will be at any given time. It is pricey though, so there should be better support. Better instructions for using the app on its homepage or even video tutorials are the least the developers should do. I upgraded to LightTrac from using the free SunCalc website and am glad I did!
