MahewaJT,
Fun, but too short and bad hint system
This game has great graphics and I love the tone. The puzzles were interesting and generally well done. There are two main drawbacks for me. First, I think the game is too short given it’s price. Second, I think the hint system, which is crucial for a game like this, has a terrible flaw. Generally I don’t care that you have to play a mini game to access the walkthrough. The problem is that it shows you the walkthrough for the area you’re in, regardless of where you might be in the chain of puzzles. So you might have access to 6 or 7 areas and not be sure where to go next. You’ll have to go to each area, play the mini game, and hope there’s something you can actually do there. This also means that you will sometimes bypass the actual puzzle accidentally because the walkthrough for the area you’re in just has the final solution to another area’s puzzle.

Best Mobile Game Review
Firstly, I’ve owned this mobile game for many years now, and I deeply recommend it. Here’s why. The visual art and animations are all hand drawn and portrays a beautiful world of robots living in a giant mechanical city. Clearly the artists were very passionate. The story is short, as is the game. But it’s a story fit for that world. The puzzles are the one of the most impressive parts of the game. Each and every puzzle is incredibly unique as well as increasingly difficult. The game will make your brain turn. You have to play the puzzles to see what I mean. Pair this with one of the most captivating soundtracks in that I’m wholly convinced of this games’ setting. It can’t be described except but having you experience it along side every other aspect of the game simultaneously. And that’s the beauty of this game. The game itself. It’s a masterpiece in my review. There’s an overflowing amount of art is this game in how every different piece of art (graphics, music, puzzles, story) meshes together perfectly to create a great game. I’ve played it many times and still have fun trying to figure out the puzzles. I would gladly pay more for this game to support the developers and artists. So for this price, there’s not even a question. Buy it. Experience it. Why not?
pdflips,
Not bad at all
This is a good puzzle solving game. A little hard to be honest , but they provide a hint page. However They literally show you how to solve all the puzzles step by step on the hint page, Kind of takes away from the game in my opinion. But on the flip side there are puzzles with zero hints what so ever, so u have to access the walkthrough page if u really want to move solve them . Also to acces the walk through is annoying , i played that mini game like 3 dozens times.

I doubt you can complete this game on the 1st go without using the walk through. Even tho the hints are vague at times. I tried solving all the puzzles without the hints i got pretty far in each puzzle , but i got stuck at the end in a lot of them. And its always for the same reason, i overlooked an item i missed (because items blend in to the surroundings way too good, need to give em a shine of sparkle) i cant recall how many times i walked passed something i needed because it was camoflaged into the background, lol.

Good game. Def recomend samorost 3 as well. Puzzles are a little easier to solve there.
myxmoskeeto,
disappointing
i went into this game with high expectations after seeing so many rave reviews. i found it extremely difficult to figure out what is and isn’t clickable, making it unimaginably frustrating to use items (you have to be standing in exactly the right place and drag and drop to exactly the right place). the movement controls were extremely finicky and annoying; tapping in the same place twice wouldn’t result in my character moving in the same way both times. the puzzles weren’t very intuitive and some were way longer than others. i had to use a walkthrough multiple times just to figure out what to do with certain objects, only to realize i was meant to use them with something i didn’t think was clickable in the first place.

for a puzzle game, quite a few of the “puzzles” to progress were games to beat rather than puzzles, which isn’t what i look for in these types of games. gave up 3 puzzles from the end because i didn’t download this to play an surprise shootout in the 11th hour. the hint system was also irritating for this reason; I’d rather watch an ad to see a hint than play frogger every time I’m stuck.

Even Better Than I expected...
It’s kind of difficult for me to pull the trigger on a game that costs money these days. There are so many free apps and games out there that I rarely see any value in it.

This game is different.

I was immediately drawn to this one by its beautiful artwork and animation. It’s like a steampunk-style creation with incredible graphics, a neat little story somehow told with no language, and scores of puzzles that you have to solve with virtually your own brains (though hints and blueprints can be acquired if you really get stuck). My six year-old daughter and I have a blast huddling together over my phone playing together and working out the puzzles with tiny clues often overlooked, and the story progresses at such a steady pace that you just can’t help but get absorbed by it. I would buy this game again and again without hesitation and I would recommend it to anyone.
temp.qiqqqo,
Too many bugs
I’ve heard a lot good reviews before I downloaded it to my iPad. Then I found that maybe the game itself has a unique style, but the experience of playing it is terrible. And I’m sure it’s not my device’s problem since mine is the new iPad Pro and I’ve played many other games while none of them have any issue.
1. The music and sound effects disappeared for many times and restart the game won’t even fix it
2. The whole screen got stuck when I tried to solve a puzzle and went back to normal once I stopped trying. So I have to give up and delete this game because I couldn’t move forward anymore.
3. The controls are very difficult. If you want to use some of the equipments you’ve obtained, you have to place them PRECISELY where they belong and sometimes even try several times for it to work.
I still think this is a good game and I assume it might work better on PC or Mac. But please fix these bugs in this iOS version. Look forward to seeing its update.

Best game ever; frustrating on iPhone
I've been doing puzzle games since Zork; I've probably played hundreds. I love a good story and difficult solving. Machinarium is my favorite game of all time--killer music and environmental audio, gorgeous visuals, clever puzzling (the garden entrance puzzle may be the best ever). Plus, it has walkthroughs if you just get stumped and can't figure out where to go next.

I've played through this probably four times, but always on a computer. On a tiny iPhone 6 screen, it's nearly impossible to see every clue or manipulate every control. The bomb puzzle nearly requires a magnifying glass, and several others had such specific click zones it took dozens of tries for an otherwise easy puzzle.

This is really not the fault of the developers--they've built a lush, rich environment, densely packed with visual clues. There's probably no way to make the work on an iPhone. iPad, maybe. Computer, definitely.
Magcayers,
Awesome, but..
I love the game, it's super cute, the puzzles can be really hard to figure out what you're supposed to do sometimes but the walkthrough is helpful. Only problem is I can't finish the game because the radio in the big tower won't play the song, I can't hear it even when I wear headphones, only the background music. I've watched walkthroughs so I know I'm doing the right thing but the sound won't play and also when I go to use the little instrument with the keys outside they don't push down, and if they do I can only push them down once and then they get stuck there, stopping me from being able to play the notes. Gah! It's awesome in every other aspect. EDIT: I closed out of the app completely and reopened it, that seemed to fix it. Yay! Ending is kinda short tho I wish they went back and saved that little alien guy or whoever he was
Lorelaikaruza,
Loved playing it for 10years
I first discovered this game when I lived in Korea 10years ago. I had just bought my first iPad to aide in teaching English to my students. That winter there was record breaking snowfall that had the city paralyzed leaving me stuck in my apartment for days. I decided to browse around for games and discovered the beautiful little world of Josef. His adventure to save his girlfriend Berta was so exciting for me. Before the iPad I hadn’t played games since Atari, it just never interested me, but the graphics, the sounds, the challenge and the storyline had me hooked playing well into the night.
Each year since I’ve played the game at least once and get to fall in love with the junk yard and it’s colorful characters all over again. I hope you find joy in it as well.
GadgetMojo,
True work of art!
Beautiful concept, all 3 games are wonderful in their own way. I haven’t tried Chuchel yet but I’m betting it’ll be just as good. Machinarium is probably my favorite of the three, but only by a small margin. These guys are so talented, each game is completely unique in feel, sound and graphics. Never seen anything like it. Like a good film, they create a complete “feel” and immersive experience. Some puzzles are difficult, but it feels like you’re actually solving the puzzles (which are often a game within a game) with your mind and not just eyes like most “puzzle” games. “The Room” series are definitely worth a try but these Amanita games are a whole different territory. A joy for/in every sense. Thank you Amanita people!! :-)
