We're excited to introduce a brand new feature: self care activity tracking!

In our training program, we encourage making time for self care, as it's an essential part of the mending process. Now, during each training session, you'll be asked to log any self care activities you participated in that day.

You'll also be able to view your logged activities over time from the Journey view (click the map icon in the navigation bar and then click on any session number to review your training for that day).

jnick4732,
easy to use and really works but not enough self care
I just resumed my subscription for a second break up. I found mend a few years ago when I was truely heart broken when I broke up with the man Who was my soul mate. I really do attribute mend and the journals to helping me get back on the horse and in another healthier relationship just 4 months after. I honestly don’t think I would have said yes to him and I would have missed so much love.

So here I am, break up again. Different reason different circumstances and mend is bringing new and different things out in me.

The only thing that really irks me about the app is how few “self care” choices there are. I wish there was a “fill in the blank option” I would love to keep track of my self care but there what they have doesn’t fit me and what I do. Like spa. Spa should totally be an option.

Built with love, needs work
Sometimes this app says exactly what you need to hear. Sometimes it makes you think of things you never would have thought of, teaches you about yourself, tells you everything will be okay and makes you believe it. These are beautiful things. However, it’s undercut significantly by glitches within the app. Although the interface is incredibly simple (it looks like a chat between you and your friend), it glitches almost daily by duplicating responses and questions. This is annoying, but fine. Today, my training was a disaster. I specified that I was broken up with, and that the reason was “fell out of love”, meaning my partner no longer loved me and broke up with me. Today, my training was taken from the switched perspective, and I had to listen to two minutes of “maybe if you’re willing and your partner is willing, you may fall in love again!”. It was cruel to hear about a reality that is not possible, but one I want. To top it off, the journal prompt was “What factors contributed to me falling out of love with my partner?”. My answer: “I didn’t.”

The app should make sure trainings like this are not available to those who have been broken up with, because otherwise, it makes a crappy day so much worse for it’s paying users.

A LIFE SAVER!
MEND app has helped me grow tremendously! It has saved me from my first heartbreak- which was after a 2 year relationship, both of us in our mid fifties. So not a "typical first heartbreak ".
It has helped me heal, taught me to love myself, taught me about what actually happens to the body during a heartbreak including explains the constant physical ache in my heart and gut. It has given me tools to use to move forward and help me cope, as well as help me understand all the issues behind why it didn't work and what I can learn from that. It has given me hope for my future as well as taught me what I want to look for in a future relationship. It has also taught me that it's perfectly wonderful to NOT be in a relationship and that my single life can be wonderful and FULL of happiness!!
(Something that I NEVER thought possible as my lifelong dream has been to be in a "happily ever after" relationship!

MEND is an honest to goodness LIFESAVER!! It is absolutely invaluable and PRICELESS! 💞 and WORTH EVERY PENNY you spend!!

From an LMHC, pleasantly surprised 🙌
I never write reviews but this one deserves a nod. I have downloaded plenty of self help apps over the years and have fallen off after a couple days or have found them to be clunky to use. Mend is truly helpful. I downloaded it because I was going through a heartbreak that I really couldn’t let go of, and 3 months later, I can truly say that it’s getting better and Mend has been a part of that.

Also noteworthy, I’m a licensed mental health counselor so I have pretty high standards (and also skepticism and lack of patience) with this stuff.

Why it works— the practices are short daily audio clips with short journal prompts that you can just type into your phone (or I got into the habit of voice-to-text it). You can log your mood for the day (with cute icons), self-care activities, and read articles. So it’s all intended to be a short and sweet daily practice. Less than 5 min, really. And knowing what I know about psychology, that’s why I think/know/have found it works.

Also, the app is just really user friendly and pleasant visually.

I spent the money for 2 of the programs and I plan to continue to explore what else they have available, even though I’m at a place where I don’t really feel I “need” it anymore.

Really nice work to the creators of Mend. Bravo in your intention and execution. 👏
Qwertbot,
Mend for everyone?
I was pretty disappointed when I found what mend had to offer. Forget the almost immediate paywall. This is the world we live in now, I guess. I selected infidelity as the reason for my breakup because that was the closest to a breech of trust. But I was the one who broke the trust. The fact that this app didn’t even account for that possibility let me to wonder if I was even worth it. I’m still struggling, and I thought the stories from others might help. I know from the App Store that the creator is female. I know I’m not entitled to every app catering to me, but the story I read quoted the creator saying how she knew this experience is universal. I have emotions, and I can be haunted by past with the best of them. I’m not a breakup scientist, so maybe there is something significantly different among how genders react to the end of a relationship. I was hoping this app would be there to help me through that, but it seemed mostly geared to people more or less like the creator. Not surprising, but still disappointing. Good thing I have a backup of crying and dancing to songs we listened to in the middle of the night 2 years later.
Rosenora,
Needs some honeing
I’ve been using the app for about two months now and I didn’t have a chance to use it before the major update but a few nitpicky items:
-I hate the pictures of faces when it asks how you are feeling. They are confusing, poorly drawn and don’t display enough emotions to convey how someone is feeling that that
-what is the purpose of putting in how we feel/write in our journal/self care, all of these check ins when they don’t consolidate the data or do ANYTHING WITH IT to show our progress? All we see is a circle that’s half full? Why not make it impactful for us to see our progress in visuals? Something?
-after finishing the checklist, there’s VERY few articles to read, it was only useful the first day. It’s almost a cop out, making it seem like we are getting more for what we paid, when we don’t. Currently this app is not worth the $60 and definitely not worth continuing on using unless these updates are made.
orangesky38,
Absolutely love Mend
I'm going through a breakup and I have to say the content is excellent. It really has been like a friend holding my hand through the whole terrible emotional landscape of what I've been going through. This has taught me to take care of myself, listen to myself, focus on myself and spend time away from my ex and try to heal. I only removed one star because the app is a bit glitchy- I've had a problem with it deleting journal entries a couple times and I also wish the "recommended for you" changed after you read the articles. Otherwise, content wise, it's incredible and it's really helped me a lot. Thanks you guys for this app.

EDIT:
I updated my app and many of the glitches went away! Also the mend team is very responsive. Thanks again for everything.
szarghami,
Heartbreak recovery
I was going through two major break ups with two guys I thought I could have future with . One break up happened in 2018 and I was not familiar with apps that are available to heal me and then I found this app and I like how every day I get up to a support where I can feel like myself and I can learn new topics everyday and practice those topics with me . I also had another break up in 2020 and the similar thing happened the break up happened after 7 months . I did see so many red flags in the relationship but did not realize there won’t be any future with this person . I like how in one lesson I learned that the future we see in our relationship is not always a future we think is meant for us .

Thank you
bellesandbows,
Waste of (a lot of) money
I wanted to like this app, and some people actually recommended it to me. However, it is SO EXPENSIVE, and I felt like the sessions got worse and more generic AFTER I spent the money. It also isn’t clear up front that the first seven days are free. I thought I had to make a decision after the first training, and I was in such a bad place that I just signed up and spent the money. I feel like this app preys on people going through a hard time, and once you spend the money, no one cares about actually helping you deal with what you’re going through. There’s also no way to get a refund. I tried to push through since I spent $110, but the last few “sessions” have been generic and entirely not applicable to my situation in any way.

It’s basically a bunch of 3-5 minute podcasts that I feel like you could find for much cheaper anywhere, and the rest of the content isn’t any better than what you could find on elite daily or the Odyssey. Very disappointed and would not recommend.
Veggiemar,
Love the concept, needs work.
I found the first 12-15 days SO tremendously helpful. The trainings were relevant, the journaling prompts gave me a space and time for my feelings so I could stop focusing on them all day, and I really felt like I was making progress. Then the trainings suddenly became really irrelevant, even though I was selecting the topics I felt would be most helpful. Two weeks out of a tremendously painful breakup, I don't want to hear encouragement to start dating again, or what to look for in a next partner, or really anything about the future other than taking care of myself, grieving, letting go. I rarely listened to the trainings after this shift, so I paid for 3 months of content when I barely used 1. I wish you either could work on the consistency/relevancy of the trainings, or have shorter time periods of commitment available. Really great start, disappointing finish.
