Description

Mindscope is a new and powerfully simple way to store your thoughts without getting lost in the details.

• Quickly create text entries with a double-tap and drag them around, aligning them to each other. Perfect for brainstorming, capturing, and sorting thoughts or taking notes.
• Tapping an entry enters its own page where you can create more entries (and as many sub-boards as you like).
• Drag entries into other entries to quickly sort your thoughts into categories and projects.
• Keep track of lists, todos, notes, and anything else you feel like keeping track of, for example a list of ways to be funny when writing an app description. Or something.
• Copy and paste entries including their sub-entries
• Export all entries and sub-entries of a board via e-mail as a bullet list.
• Import any saved .mindscope file.
• Set a default font size for any board (long-press on a font size and select "Set As Default"

All of the above, as a universal app, with iCloud sync...completely for free! Yeah, I know, I can't believe it either. You can "pay" me with an App Store review, how does that sound?

However, if you are up for spending money, with the "Unlock Everything" in-app purchase, you can also save your own .mindscope files, search through all your entries instantly, create cross-links between boards, create arrows and lines between entries, set up a grid background for a page, set your own colors per page, and export boards to an OPML file (suitable for opening in most major mind-mapping programs). Any upcoming features in future updates will be included for the unlocked version at no extra cost.

Quotes from happy customers:

"It’s hitting a sweet spot for me. I have pretty much every single Mind-Mapping or Outlining app for iOS, and this is among the best.”
“This is EXACTLY what I've been hoping for. I so need to send flowers to your mother for having you.”
"Mindscope is a terrific app, elegant, easy to use, and incredibly useful.”
"Scapple for Mac comes closest to Mindscope in its combination of function, ease of use and minimalism but Mindscope is better."
"A very cool app. Think of it as Workflowy unbound from the outline."

Mindscope 1.52

Added iOS 11 compatibility and fixed a rare crash bug.

Mindscope 1.5

After many, MANY hours of work, this is the update you've all been waiting for! Before I get to what all is new, I first want to give a HUGE thank you to...YOU. You all have been incredibly kind and patient and encouraging over this long wait. Your emails and app reviews have been one of the highlights of this whole project for me.

So, without further ado, here are the big new things in Mindscope 1.5:

--- iPhone & iPad compatible ---

That's right, Mindscope now runs on your iPhone as well for when you're on the go! It's really useful for taking notes on the go. Especially because of...

--- iCloud sync ---

Your Mindscope entries can now be stored in iCloud. If you do so, it will sync between your iPhone and your iPad! If there are any problems, please let me know! I have spent many hours testing and polishing this - it should Just Work.

Note that if you don't want to use this, you also have the option to simply work locally (like before).

The entries are synced when you have Internet and are primarily updated when you first open up the app. If you've made a change on your other device that you aren't seeing yet, trying exiting and re-entering.

--- Bluetooth keyboard fix ---

Bluetooth keyboards now work great again with Mindscope! Creating entries used to not work when a Bluetooth keyboard was connected. This has now been fixed, in fact, I've gone even further and added a ton of...

--- Keyboard shortcuts ---

Many, MANY new keyboard shortcuts makes using Mindscope with a keyboard simply awesome. Hold down the Cmd key on your keyboard to see them all. Everything from navigating to creating to editing to styling can now be done via keyboard. It's AWESOME, if I do say so myself (and I do).

--- New action side menu ---

Instead of a popup, an action bar now slides in when highlighting entries - this makes life way easier especially on the iPhone, since this way the action buttons won't pop up under your finger, and also there is room for all the actions.

--- Massive internal refactoring & rewrite in Swift ---

This one you won't see much of on the outside, but I've rewritten many parts of the app in Swift to provide a better foundation for The Future.

Please let me know what you think, and if you like it, consider updating your App Store review!

Finally I'd like to give a special shoutout to Chris Galtenberg who was far and away the biggest encourager of them all - Chris, your passion for Mindscope nearly rivals my own. Thanks for being awesome, man!

1.3.1
2014-11-27
In Version 1.3.1 - FIXED a crash bug when searching for a link element. HUGE thanks to "Zignfrew" for reporting that bug with a 4-star review. Now THAT is the way to report bugs... :)

In Version 1.3 - More cool stuff many of you have been asking for, including my own mom. (Hi Mom!) Read on for the details...

...first, as usual, thank you guys for your kind words in your App Store reviews and emails. They really mean a lot.

NEW FEATURE: Undo/Redo

This one has been asked for by a lot of you, including my own awesome mom, my most faithful beta tester (Hi again, Mom!). So anyhow: to undo a change you made, just slowly swipe left with two fingers. To redo the change, swipe right with the exact same two fingers - I'd like to recommend your index and middle finger, but actually it would work with any two fingers, and I give you complete freedom to pick which fingers you want to use for the swiping. I'm awesome like that. But I digress...

NEW FEATURE: Cross-links (part of UNLOCK EVERYTHING)

This one is a bit of a mind bender - you can now create a link from one board in one area of your Mindscope to an entirely different board in a totally different area. To do so, copy the entry you want a link to, navigate to the board you want to link from and paste the entry. You will now be able to choose whether to create a copy of the entry, or a cross-link to the entry. Cross-links are underlined with a dashed line. You can still move entries into them - they will simply move entries into the board the cross-link links to. Make sense?

VARIOUS IMPROVEMENTS

● Vastly improved performance especially for mindscopes with hundreds of entries (like mine)...
● When you set a grid background for a board, your entries will now align to the grid cell centers.
● A few more help videos explaining various things a bit better
● FIXED a bug where you'd see German for the word Delete (Löschen - which by the way is a way cooler word for delete than 'delete', but I digress)
● FIXED Changing the font size didn't change the size of the selection box

COMING SOON
The upcoming version after this will also support the iPhone and will include the ability to save/sync your documents to at least iCloud!!!

NOTE: I will again be raising the price of Unlocking Everything when the next version is released, so to save money, unlock now - and hey, you know what? Tell all your friends to get Mindscope and unlock it, too - they'll be so grateful, maybe they'll give you better Christmas presents this year. But I digress...

1.2
2014-10-21
Version 1.2 is a super exciting release because it contains two of the most requested features you all have asked for... read on for more details!

But first - as always, thanks so much for your kind words, both in your reviews and your emails. You guys are awesome. Please remember to update your reviews for version 1.2 so they show up under "current version"!

NEW FEATURE: SEARCH (INCLUDED WITH "UNLOCK ALL" PURCHASE)

That's right, instantaneous search through all your entries! Simply long-press on the board and hit "search" (alternatively, double tap with two fingers if you want to be really cool about it). Tap in a search term, select a result, and BAM - you navigate right there. So cool. (Pro-tip: start using hashtag entries to quickly be able to jump to places you want to remember. Then if you search "#", you'll see all your hashtags in a list.)

NEW FEATURE: ADJUSTABLE WIDTH & WORD-WRAPPING

When editing, you should notice a new grey knob to the right of the element. Drag this around to set the element's width. The text will automatically wrap based on its width. This is especially cool when copying in longer text from somewhere else. Hitting enter will still create a new element underneath so you can still quickly capture multiple entries.

BUG FIXES / IMPROVEMENTS

• Copying & pasting multiple entries now actually copies and pastes, uh.. multiple...entries. Instead of just one like it used to.
• You can now cancel the exporting if you want to (there didn't use to be a Cancel button). Oops.
• Updated the help videos and added three more.
• Bunch of bug fixes related to text entry, margins, and stuff. Don't want to bore you with the details.
• Fixed the really annoying layout bug in the help videos when swiping through.

Coming soonish: Undo, Hyperlinks, Cross-Links, and more!

First of all - THANK YOU to everyone who has sent in praise, ideas, and feedback! You guys are awesome.

NEW FEATURE: OPML export - save a board (and its sub-pages) as an OPML file and send it via e-mail (or any app that accepts files, such as Dropbox)

FIXED: Entering text with a Bluetooth keyboard would cause no additional entries to be able to be added (THANKS to John and James for letting me know about this!)

P.S. If you are enjoying Mindscope, would you mind taking a moment to write (or update!) your review on the App Store? It really helps.

P.P.S. Even if you've written a review already (you awesome person you), updating it will make sure it is visible in the "current reviews" section.

Goratsiy,
Needs Some Tweaking
There’s a lot of good to the app and a few novel approaches to mind mapping. A couple of obvious oversights, however. The first, is the lack of a file management system that incorporates being able to create new, independent maps and files. I purchased the full version, and I’ve not discovered a way to do that, yet. Second, is the inability to import and export from and to other mind mapping applications.
Reviewergrr,
Simple, Easy, Useful, Awesome! (+ suggestions)
I downloaded Mindscope recently and I’m hooked. I keep finding more and more uses for it and have a ton of stuff on it already. It’s very easy to keep records, make lists, arrange ideas, etc. I decided to purchase all the features and I’m glad I did. Making charts, graphs, and calendars for various uses is a piece of cake with the grid backgrounds. Mind mapping, brainstorming, and keeping track of anything is what Mindscope does. It can really help you get organized in your thinking and in your life. The ability to have endless subfolders is very cool and allows me to not get lost in the details and keep my mind on the big picture. I really appreciate all the work the developer has put into this app and how useful has become in my life. I started using it for work every day and it is proving to be quite helpful. It’s also fun to use. Give it try! You’ll be glad you did.

To the developer:

1) Thank you! Super job!
2) Please keep updating this app
3) Suggestions:

- It would be great if I could change the color of each entry. Having different colors for each entry would add a lot to the already great visual aid Mindscope is (rich text formatting would be nice too)

- Adding pictures would be a great addition and make Mindscope even more useful

- Increasing the size of the page / workspace would also be wonderful (infinite zoom?)

Again, thank you!

I’m really looking forward to more updates

God bless
steveylang,
Only Mapping/Outlining Program I Use!
This is super-functional and easy to use tool for laying down and organizing your ideas spatially. I’ve tried many mind-mapping type programs on multiple platforms (iOS, Mac, Windows), but with the possible exception of Scapple always returned to pencil and notepad when I wanted to brainstorm or organize my thoughts. But now I reach for my iPad and Mindscope instead. It’s not fancy or full of graphical enhancements, but is extremely easy to use and the ability to easily drill down and create new ‘layers’ or subtopics is great (and sets it apart from Scapple.) When I need to continue work on my notebook computer, the OPML and text export work really well. The developer is also responsive to questions and feature requests.

This app reminds me of WorkFlowy (my choice of outliner)- no frills but super functional.
GreenChickenLabs,
For the love of text editors and wikis
App store Review
Finally iMandalArt done right mashed with Daedalus
Was the first thing I thought of but that is not to detract from the uniqueness of Mindscope
Mind mappers, thought organizers, index card arrangers are hard to get right with speed and novelty
It's like mind mapping with a text editor
As a fan of wikis, Mindscope feels right at home
Impressive is the well thought user experience as if the developer uses the app personally
Breadcrumbs, pinch to level and search are all well thought out aids to thought node retrieval
The user interface is perfect and I hope any feature updates will not degrade performance like attachments of images sound etc.
In fact MindScope is perfect as is usage wise but I would like to see the ability to import from the system clipboard or plain text lists
Pasting from the system clipboard is possible into Mindscope as well as dragging in a text selection
As well as exporting from the share sheet a whole board but
The text bullet list export is not plain text but instead HTML
Pure plain text would be preferred without the markup
This review was composed in Mindscope and exported as such and HTML markup removed with a Workflow script
Perkgun,
Very nice
Every now and then you run across an app that just feels right. The developer gets it right and you feel a connection with the app in a way that makes you want to use it. This app is very intuitive. Simple yet able to handle large projects. Reminds me of WorkFlowy simple, effective.

I have one request: The menu that is on the side would be better if it appeared in a circle around whatever item you have selected so that your finger would not have to travel very far. Long press on the word and up pops a menu that is arranged in a circular fashion around the item. I think this make it even easier to use.

Great job!
Takeoutchick,
Like a mindmap, but better!
I wish I had this program when I was in medical school. It allows me to put as little (or as much) info as needed onto the page. A lot of the times when I studied, I felt overwhelmed by the amount of material I had to learn. Mindmaps, with their silly lines, made things more complicated. A nice, simple program like this definitely would have helped me memorize things like the branches of the brachial plexus. I am using it right now for my todo lists, and when my kids are older, I’m sure they will find it helpful for schoolwork too.
lmnt5,
Perfect for divergent thinkers!
Mindscope is precisely the app I’ve been looking for for a long time - I can pop out thoughts without having to have a particular connection already in mind as you do with most mind-mapping software - just a blank page which can then develop its own theme. Great for divergent thinkers who don’t necessarily want lines and arrows and boxes and grids. I bought the paid version, more to show support for this wonderful app than because I need the things it offers. Here’s hoping my review can help bring its star rating closer to the 5+ it deserves!
Ely Last,
Love Your App
I’ve only fiddled - usually I use an app extensively before reviewing it - but I LOVE this easy to use, simple yet perfect for laying out websites app.

I can think of other uses as well, but that’s my main goal right now. I searched high and low and have several other apps I could use to map out my websites, but this one is so much better.

I love apps with little to no learning curve and intuitive, ergonomic interface. Mindscope hits the spot! I’m really picky, so really: THANK YOU!
Mr.Worry Demon,
need to be optimized for ios 13
i love mindscope coz of its simple and easy control user interface.
i usually use for my lecture note preperation.
it is quite effective to organize facts and thoughts.
But now i was faced with trouble to import my backup file to mindscope in iOS 12 (not in iOS 12).
This is my second time trouble :D fisrt is more worse bcoz i loss all data of my notes after upgrading my iOS 13 >.<
i give 5 star even it has errors :)
i'm waiting hopefully your optimization or solution for my trouble.
jadedasnack123,
Great but, too sensitive
Sometimes i just want to make one entry larger than the rest but this app just groups all the other entries even though i gave no indication that this is what i wanted. Just make it so when i want to enlarge an entry it doesn't group the rest of the page along with it and ill give it 5 stars.
Also some backend control of the sensitivity like long press and grouping would make it perfect so i can tweak what i want.
