"Intro to Colors just might turn your child into the next Picasso." - Mac Life

With Intro to Colors, the world of color comes alive. Inspired by the famous Montessori Color tablets, this dynamic and interactive app will guide your children through an appreciation of color, from the concrete to the abstract.

——

YOUR CHILD WILL LEARN

· The basic foundations of color
· Primary & Secondary Colors
· Color Shades & Gradients
· To identify, match and name colors
· To mix, paint and create colors
· To seek, find and select colors
· Fine motor skills

Intro to Colors is a universal app that will work on iPad and iPhone. The app features these activities:

——

PRIMARY COLORS

Learn to identify the primary colors, in a series of guided, interactive exercises using the color tablets. Your child will drag, match and tap on red, yellow and blue.

SECONDARY COLORS

Learn to identify, select and name the secondary colors, in a number of engaging activities using the color tablets.

GRADIENTS

Learn to appreciate gradients with the color wheel and by arranging the color tablets from light-to-dark or dark-to-light.

PAINT

Unleash your creativity on this blank canvas with this painting exercise. In the Montessori classroom, we provide only three colors (red, yellow, and blue) when painting.

SEARCH

Explore these creative artist scenes in this seek-and-find activity. Your child will listen for, find, and select the correct color as a fun way to recap their understanding of color.

Rainbow kids,
Stays true to Montessori
This apps stays true the Montessori 3 period lesson which is essential for learning things properly. Plus the apps is beautiful. Honestly this is a better solution than actual physical color tablets. Just so grateful for this app. Imagine your 2 year child being able to learn all the colors and even grade them from dark to light within a month at most.
@Stephen,
Works great!
New version works great and my daughter loves it.

Beautiful App
This is one beautifully designed app. The simplistic graphics, sound, and effects help keep your attention to the task of learning about colors - primary colors, secondary colors and color gradients. There are also 2 activities - one for exploration (painting), and one to test your ability to fully integrate the material (color search). I love how the material flows from basic matching to being able to recognize the sound of the color's name. In the primary and secondary color sections, you scatter spools of color by shaking the iPad, and then match the color spools. Something I would like to see is the ability to scatter the spools by sweeping the screen with your fingers. There is nothing that makes me more nervous then a toddler shaking my very expensive iPad. Selecting a color in the gradient section by spinning the color wheel is a delight to the senses. In this section, you grade a specific color from dark to light. In the open painting section you are given only the 3 basic primary colors - which can then be mixed in intensity/saturation and together to make new colors. Correct answers are reinforced with verbal encouragement, wrong answers are not acknowledged as "wrong" but give you a subtle nudge to try again. I highly recommend this app.
djcottrill,
Another great app from Montessorium!
I just downloaded the Intro to Color app into my iPhone and of course, needed to "test" it before I see my grandkids in a week. It has sections that work great for different age groups, from the simple primary colors on up to gradients (I even learned a lot from that one). Whenever there is a new Montessorium app I download immediately as each one is a wonderful fun learning tool for my grandchildren.

Bad design
This app is pretty bad. Don't waste your money. It's super simple so how the programmers made such obvious mistakes is beyond me. For example, one of the main features is matching two like colors. However the blank spots the child is supposed to move the poorly designed thimble graphic to are too close together. This confuses a child about which side to match it to. Also it's buggy. If you tap one of the ridiculously poorly designed thimble graphics and drag it the wrong way it vanishes from the screen. I'm guessing this app was part of a high school app building class or something because no professional programmer would have come up with such a bad design.

Intro To Colors
This is a well designed application that does a fine job of introducing children to the world of colors. The app focuses on not just standard primary colors but secondary ones as well as gradient mixtures. The app uses voice narration to guide the users and a tap and move function in order to achieve color identification. The menu design is simple enough to where kids can pretty much use the app themselves without adult interference. This is important in that children can learn not just colors but how to navigate applications themselves.

A beautiful introduction to color
All Montessorium's apps are visually stunning, but this is certainly my favorite. I love the way the app highlights individual chips early on, then shows them again in context of the color wheel and scenes sections. Speaking of the scenes, I would love to see more options, perhaps as an in-app purchase, and would like to be able to color in the black and white areas!

Montessorium's Best App Yet
My four year old summed up this app best: "it's just soooo cool!"

This app takes the foundations and aesthetics of Montessori and fully leverages the intuitive interface of the iPhone & iPad. It is just simply beautiful.

My daughter spent over 45 minutes on her first use of the app and continues to come back time and again to the Color Wheel and Search.

What a beautiful way to introduce children to colors and, indirectly, art.
happyhappy88,
Beautiful learning fun
Its easy to use and has enough variety so my 2 yo never tires of it and is always challenged. Great app for truly learning colors. Get it!
Jess875,
Not what I thought
This app keeps crashing. I was hoping for a more substantial app. While this is a good start, I expected a color wheel and a little more explanation in color theory than just listing the primary, secondary, tertiary colors etc. a bit disappointing for someone who loves color 😞
