Description

Get definitions for words in 25 languages and boost your language learning efforts with flashcards exported to AnkiMobile. Based on free data, without ads, data collection, tracking or in-app purchases.

The language data comes from Wiktionary, a project which aims to describe all words of all languages in English. In one single application, multiple languages can be installed, currently there are 25 languages, but with over 4300 languages in the Wiktionary project there is ample opportunity to include more in future releases.

Etymologies help to make connections between new and already familiar words in any language installed, and example sentences show words and phrases from everyday usage.

To facilitate faster language learning, your search history is available locally and fully searchable. If you use AnkiMobile you can export flashcards directly from an entry.

Rethliopuks,
About the best Wiktionary app there is
With multilingual support (only shows the section of that language) and offline dictionary, this is a lifesaver for me as I live in China and can't access Wiktionary without a VPN.

Feature requests: 1) for Russian and Ukrainian, showing the verbal aspect would be great (whether the verb is perfective/imperfective, and even better if the counterpart is also shown). This is important because the aspect determines the meaning of the verb, e.g. whether it's "I'm doing" or "I'll do".

2) for Russian, Ukrainian, Latin, and maybe some other synthetic languages, it would be nice to show the inflection table (conjugation/declension). This might not be needed for agglutinative languages like Korean or Turkish, where the inflections are almost all regular. But in synthetic languages words often have irregular forms.

Alternatively, it would suffice to show the basic grammatical forms/notes listed on Wiktionary next to the entry form (such as for Lat. "habeo", habere, habui, habutum, 2nd conjugation, or for Lat. "corpus", corporis, 3rd declension) -- a good substitution if tables would be unwieldy to display/implement.

3) For all languages: some apps like Google translate would automatically switch the keyboard depending on the language you select. Would be very handy to add to this app.
Kyleisleuk,
Incredible app
As a linguist, I love Wiktionary and use it daily. Having this offline, simple, version with only the languages I use is amazing. I never write reviews, but I really adore this app.

If I could suggest two things, I would love for Hebrew to be added, as well as the conjugation/decision for verbs and nouns to be shown. I’m not sure if this would be possible, but it would also be nice to provide the Wiktionary audio recordings that are sometimes available instead of the text to speech that is provided in the app. Besides that, it’s a great app. With those additions, I’d never visit the web version of Wiktionary again. Thank you for creating this!
Samrjack,
Best dictionary for Esperanto
The fact that Esperanto is in here is amazing. It is honestly the best dictionary on the App Store for it!

It does a great job of matching words with Esperanto specific characters without needing to switch to an Esperanto keyboard which I love.

The one annoyance I have is that I wish I could specify what language I want to search in when I’m searching a word that is valid (in whole or in part) in both English and Esperanto (for example, “bar” brings up so many results that it’s impossible to find what I’m looking for). So being able to toggle something would be nice, but it doesn’t get in the way that often.
Zitsu14,
Your project is amazing
Your project is amazing don’t be unmotivated because of the success of the other futile apps and games .
Thank you very much for your wonderful efforts, adding the Russian transliteration is just absolutely great, very few people would have thought about doing you’ve accomplished, the app is very neat, and the offline use is indispensable, I would really appreciate if you can add Persian, as it’s much less researched and less resourced than the other languages, that’s besides me being already engaged in Iranian languages research as it can offer a great deal of benefit to the Indo-European languages in general.
Again, Thank you very much!
TOm BraDy is FloRida,
The best dictionary app on the App-Store.
I found this app by chance when I had a fleeting interest in Esperanto, and I am quite glad that I did, because I use it every day now, both for my native English and learning!

If it isn't too much to ask, would it be possible to add Modern Greek and Modern Standard Arabic? Also, if you could fix it, the IPA seems to be missing for Italian.

Thank you for a wonderful service, and for free, too! Cheers!
Ntg44580,
Way better than all other dictionary apps I’ve tried
I’ve tried for years to find a good dictionary app - without annoying ads and unnecessary “features,” lightweight and quick to load and navigate - and believe this is it.

I like to look up every word I don’t recognize in my reading, and often need archaic usages. Motî makes it easy to find alternative definitions and etymologies with its minimalist display.

I appreciate that when you go back to the search page from an entry, the keyboard comes up automatically, ready for another search - no extra taps here. I can’t believe other dictionary apps haven’t made simple UI improvements like this.

Love it - thank you!
Andrew Solanto,
Almost got it all! Incredible!
Amazing Wiktionary app. For those who need translations and definitions on the go and without mobile data, this is perfect. And it’s pretty, too!

Only ding is conjugation charts—hope those get added sometime!
bougre,
etymologies!
A dictionary with etymologies is always something to cherish and be thankful for. A multilingual dictionary with etymologies is truly a gift for which I’m thankful. Are there any plans to add Japanese? It would be great if it would be added at some point, along with Chinese, given the overlap in chinese derived vocabulary shared with already incorporated Korean and Vietnamese.
A Mountain of Salt,
As soon as Russian is included, I am giving this a 5 star
I love the simplistic design, it's classy. I have faith that Russian and other languages will be added in the future. There is also a crash here and there but that's expected from a new app. I can't understand why there aren't more of these multi lingual dictionary apps, they are wicked cool.
Skorng,
Crippling bug
I'd be willing to give it 5 stars but I've encountered a crippling bug where I can't download a dictionary unless I have far more free space than the dictionary's file size. Couldn't even download Euskara without 1 gigabyte free, and I can't download English with 1.4 gigs.
