SheClutches,
Great app but I want more seasons
Great app however I wish there were more seasons of certain shows, for example Yukon Vet only has season 8 which is only like 9 episodes so I blew threw it, I wanted to watch some of the past seasons but that isn’t an option, however it is for other shows, I feel it should be an all or none type of deal, access to all shows past seasons or only access to the latest season, don’t just pick & choose which shows I can watch start to finish for me, that’s a decision I should be able to make myself. Other than that I really have no complaints other than I really wish y’all would chill with the 5 commercials every break but I guess typical TV does that too so can’t really complain about it.
Paminocala,
You’ve lost this viewer
I’ve streamed National Geographic channel for years through my cable network. Lately I have to delete the app and re add the silly thing. For some reason it won’t acknowledge my cable provider unless I start from the beginning. I do understand that I could make my own account within the app but I’m tired of app providers selling my info. ( yet another way to make money off of me) This will no longer be a problem for me because I’m unable to watch the shows I used to stream. I work when my normal shows air on my cable network. Unless I purchase the additional streaming service ( even though I already pay for National Geographic through my cable network) I’m unable to watch the shows I would like to watch. Basically I would be paying for advertising for one channel to two separate providers. I’m done with National Geographic and also will not renew my subscription to the magazine. It was nice knowing you when you were more interested in imparting knowledge instead of making a buck.

Edit. For some reason now I’m unable to access any shows through your app. I used to have to delete the app and reinstall the app to be able to view shows. For the last few weeks I’ve repeatedly been shown that you’re experiencing “technical problems” . No matter what I try, I don’t seem to have this app’s secret pass word. I wish the app was even half as good as the shows. I now call this Firetrucking National Geographic.
marbanno,
Ad integration...horrific
First, I don’t mind ads. But the sheer number of ads; the “choice” to see multiple or single ads and the repetition of the same cross promotional nonsense makes this format frustrating at best; and a waste of time in the new digital era of media.

I’d love to be fly on wall of the exec meeting discussing ad placements in the app. “Hey lets synergy our cross promotional shows and really...zzzzz!” “Blue sky that idea Farnsworth!!” - seriously, just give me the ad without having me navigate the idiotic menu with a prompt the size of a pea. Give me multiple ads at once! I don’t care about the ads, I get it, it makes you money but why can’t media companies understand user experience should be front and center. Why can’t you just deliver a similar TV experience? Do you get digital is the new TV? No need to make it harder. It’s entertainment. I pay you to immerse myself in nonsense; not to think about what ad I’d like to see especially when....it’s the same stupid ad. Ok I get CW is pushing supergirl by repeatedly showing her thrust out her bosoms over and over; I get CW is pushing Charmed, which btw, I couldn’t figure out which show was which. And both shows aren’t even close to the target demographic of the tv show I am watching. The chance of me watching CW is zero.

Perhaps I’m cynical but I have more hope for a 5 year old exploring play dough than these dumb “tv” execs.
Faeden,
You had One job
(Update) They fixed it! Thank you :) The app works like a charm now. Complete overhaul, and they even fixed the pixelation that I used to see for a few minutes after every commercial. Now my only suggestion is that the scrub bar pop up immediately when we tap, instead of the artistic (?) delay. But I think I can live with that. Good work, devs!

[This app has always been slow and inefficient, but I’ve put up with it to watch my one show. But as of this week, I can’t use the app for more 2 minutes (literally) before it crashes, doesn’t matter if I’m watching something or navigating. Obviously this makes it utterly useless. If it doesn’t get fixed soon, I’ll be deleting it because the empty space on my phone has more value.]
Spider crazy!,
Too many ads and the update stinks!
I get it, companies need to make money and when it comes to tv that money is made through ads. I just don’t understand the need to place 5 or 6 ads for every commercial break. It’s ridiculous and most definitely not promoting anything when all I feel like doing is putting my device down during the break or (lately) just turning the show off. Thanks to the new update I can no longer stream forward and backwards through the show so if I miss something I’ve just missed it. You can’t even go forward or backwards by 10 seconds! If I choose to start the show over to see what I missed I have to sit through all of the ads again as well. Plus, the update now cuts off the last minute or two of the show so I never see the conclusion of the episode. All of these issues just seem to make the experience worthless. I love nature shows, but for all of this new trouble I can just go watch some documentary on Netflix instead without all of the issues.
Loveiphoneipad,
AMAZING shows & a solid app
National Geographic has always been my favorite channel by far. The shows are genuinely thought-provoking and thoughtful, with the suspense and addictiveness of a TV show and the quality of a good documentary. The app works fine as well, and hasn’t glitched or crashed yet. I saw some reviews complaining about the amount of ads, and while that’s a fair point, I personally like them. Not because I enjoy watching ads that much, but because they force me to take a break and remember to drink some water, and without them I could watch for hours without even looking up from my screen 😄.
Sellena42,
What a joke.
So apparently some shows are truly free to watch, where you don’t need to sign in to your TV provider and input all your info. I saw 5 shows that didn’t have a lock icon. Yep, 5. And all of those were nothing I was interested in. Cute animals? Pass. How one woman will live forever? I’m good. Everything I was really interested in only had very limited access. That means, that while I could select an episode and start watching, I could only view a certain % of the total episode. For a 1:30:00 episode it was around 35 minutes, for a 44 minute episode it was around 3. Get commercials on it? Too bad, can’t skip, and it still detracts from your time. Utter waste of time. The Apple story about this app and the info the app has on its page are entirely misleading about what you can actually do with limited access. I wanted to like it, and I was so excited to see this app was a thing, but now I’m just kind of bitter and disappointed. Deleted after about 50 minutes.
FlashyJG,
High school project
For a major TV network this is a very poor excuse for an app. It’s EXTREMELY slow to respond to any touch features and can take a solid 5 seconds just to pause the show. It’s long enough to make you think it’s not working so you press it again and then it clears the screen of all features forcing you to start that all over. Now you’re 10-15 seconds past where you want to pause and looking at first rewinding before pausing.
And there’s no FF feature, which is incredibly annoying when you’re trying to binge watch a show and have to spend two minutes watching a recap of the episode you just watched.
I don’t understand why some network apps are so fantastic and some are like a 90s high school programming beta project. In 2019 it’s inexcusable to have network apps that are not top notch. Thankfully I don’t watch much on Nat Geo but this app makes me want to watch even less.
X.Static,
Worst Streaming App I've Ever Used
There is virtually nothing to like about this app. The "My List" functionality is buried, the app doesn't follow the standard "episodes are displayed in ascending order", instead, you have to scroll all the way to the end of the list to watch the first episode of a season. Series don't play if a new season starts. Menus at the top don't activate until you click, breaking with every other tvOS app where simply hovering a menu entry activates that tab. You HAVE to sign up for an account to have continuity across devices. But the worst offender by far are the amount of ads you have to sit through. Even with a PAID Disney subscription, the amount of ads is incomprehensible, Disney is just bilking us at this point. I'm breaking the cycle and canceling my entire Disney suite subscription on principle alone at this point. Absolutely horrific app, and even worse policies.
prof500,
Ruined by greed
This is a well-designed app ruined by deceptive marketing and greed. After it is downloaded, all its shows are available for free viewing for a couple days. Then, without warning, it requires a login to the person's TV provider, a kind of paywall. That's not unreasonable if it were announced upfront, but here's the worst thing: if you have the channel as part of your TV package and log in successfully, many many shows may still be unavailable (in a nontransparent way except clicking them one by one) because of something like "your TV provider has not made an agreement with us for this". In other words, Fox got greedy and wanted an extra fee and the TV provider refused to give in to the blackmail.

My father, in his 80s, loves this channel and was excited to get the app so he could also view shows on his iPad. In the end, he was frustrated and sad and we ended up deleting the app.
