Pipeline Manager,
To quote Johnny Rocco…
“I want more!”
More content: Gorgeous production of unparalleled theater. Is it any wonder I want more? understand that the theater releases must make money, but I want them at home, too. It won’t put a penny of NT money at risk because when I can go to a theater I will still buy tickets because the big screen is an even more amazing experience. Am I the only one who wants to watch a play more than one time? When Patrick Stewart’s Macbeth was on Broadway my wife and I had such a great time we bought tix for the next night and had even more fun.
More insight: I’m in my 60’s and quietly geeking out over Shakespeare (many thankis BTW to Ehrin Ziegler’s Chop Bard podcast). Could we get a few thousand hours of behind-the-scenes with the dramaturgs, designers, producers, etc? I’d love to see the raw confusion of a cast’s first reading, pre-rehearsal - and for as many shows as possible. How do the initial themes that the director has in mind when prepping for rehearsal evolve or wither away? How do directing styles differ from show to show? And if we could have a compare/contrast of NT’s many Hamlets over the years!!!! Or Midsummer, or…
SO grateful NT has begun this effort. If only there were something I could do to make this site nearly as iconic as the theater itself.
Olivia's Grief,
I Just Want MORE
I’ve had the service for almost a year now and it has been a blessing in these dark times. I live in Georgia, USA and we don’t get to see theater of this standard often. When the National put their shows online during the start of the pandemic it felt like going back to the theater again. It game me hope. Now when I’m at a loss creatively or just need a little pick me up, I open the app and find a show that I’d have never been able to see before. I wish the selection was wider and deeper— but I understand the difficulties that entails— furthermore I think they’re releasing a bunch of new shows this year! This isn’t standard theater, or a “stand in” for theater and it certainly isn’t film— it’s far more alive than film can ever be— but it is exactly what the world needs right now: a series of living breathing moments that ask us to breathe with them and listen. Thank you to all the artists and production staffers! You did it!
Wordpie,
Theatre experience in your living room
I got the app as soon as it came out, having enjoyed the free at home performances during the pandemic so much. I miss the theatre and although I can catch local performances have accepted that my chances to see top performances like this live are likely to be few. I like to ‘book’ an evening with a performance and make it a home treat with a glass of wine, some snacks and a chair pulled up close. No, you don’t get the theatre experience (or cinema which I did for a while) but you don’t have to ruin your mood searching for a car parking place, have no other heads in front of yours and can pause to go refill your glass. I have also watched performances I don’t think I ever would have booked to go and see, writing them off as ‘not for me’. This app has been a lifeline and an education. Treat yourself to some amazing performances and experiences and don’t limit yourself to what you think you will like.

Amadeus
Ive aways wanted to write something about amadeus ever sense i saw it the first time. I do want to say that was the most amazing performance i have ever seen in my life and i feel like i wont be able to see such truthful acting ever With every word spoken and body gesture is truthful and with the music aswell it was extraordinary it was brilliant when i saw that you guys had the website to watch it from home because of covid i was sooo happy because im from the US so thank you so much for having it available at home I hope maybe one day i will be able to see it again in person the recording is amazing as well but the night i went was even that much better thank you again
SfFan68,
I’m so grateful that this app exists!
I love London theatre and was incredibly excited about the free broadcasts that were done during the pandemic. Having these plays available on demand puts me over the moon.

My one ask is less camera work, more recordings done as the plays were directed-Just give me the equivalent of a great seat, as the joy of theatre is enjoying the staging, set design- all of the things that make it theatre and not film. Imagine losing all of the magic that made a play like the Lehman Brothers Trilogy incredible. Not the app’s issue but I hope they can convey the feedback to the NT.
Spidey Guy's Supermom,
Unfortunately does not deliver content and they choose to not be in contact
Great theater speaks to humanity.
We witness events that propel us into goodness, kindness, service to the greater good. Perhaps some gloat in their swollen evil, and relate and identify to villains as a justification. In any case, theater helps us navigate the pitfalls of life, play and entertain through the good the bad and the ugly.

It breaks my heart when a company as the National Theater reduces itself to one more platform of greed and ego. Is a tragedy.

At very least, provide a genuine, true opportunity for customers to contact the NT in case they have trouble accessing the content you promised that they paid for. Not politics. Not egos. Not rhetoric. Not run around. Not a waste of people’s time.

How shall i reliably find a point of contact to solve the problem of having no access to content? Or, when the login page fails again, and the robot running the program does not send links to reset a password, as the correct one does not work, how then shall we reset it in real time, without a delay of days? Or not at all?

Thanks to whomever sincerely cares about people and our shared humanity. Thanks to those who understand and cherish humility and service.

Thank you
RIP @jackieethegreat,
Wonderful way to get the live theater experience at home
I am in the US, and would probably never get the chance to actually see a show at the National Theater, despite being a fan for many years. This digital feature has finally made ground-breaking professional theater accessible to me. I get to have a live theatrical experience right from my couch. Not to mention, I get to see past productions I didn’t get to see before (do you know how cool it is to see THEE legend Micaela Coel in a 2008 production of Medea?).
Fan frim,
This was my best purchase of 2021!
If you are thinking about a subscription, do it. I am a theater buff and really enjoy these rich and thought provoking productions. The big plus for me is I can watch them over and over again to catch nuances of meaning and directorial craft which is especially true for the many Shakespeare plays. I used to waist time surfing Netflix for what to watch and this subscription has saved. Kudos to National Theater for doing this.
Holbeezy,
Excellent APP
I am so glad that my sister got me something that I’ve always loved for years! I remember the first time going to the IFC Center in New York City to see Coriolanus and then King Lear many years later. When my sister got me a 6 month subscription, I almost fell to the floor.I got a chance to see War Horse and No Man’s Land, two shows I’ve always wanted to see.I would suggest for anyone to give a gift of theater from National Theatre on the app to their love ones.
BrayFit,
What I would give to be able to watch these forever!
I am OBSESSED with National Theatre at Home. I would give up all my other streaming services if their catalogue was a bit bigger. My heart aches to see the dates when the plays I love will no longer be available for streaming, and I’d do anything to own them forever, but being able to watch them at all is such a gift. I cant recommend it enough.
