Nonograms Katana: Sharpen your mind!

Nonograms, also known as Hanjie, Griddlers, Picross, Japanese Crosswords, Japanese Puzzles, Pic-a-Pix, "Paint by numbers" and other names, are picture logic puzzles in which cells in a grid must be colored or left blank according to numbers at the side of the grid to reveal a hidden picture. The numbers are a form of discrete tomography that measures how many unbroken lines of filled-in squares there are in any given row or column. For example, a clue of "4 8 3" would mean there are sets of four, eight, and three filled squares, in that order, with at least one blank square between successive groups.
To solve a puzzle, one needs to determine which cells will be boxes and which will be empty. Determining which cells are to be left empty (called spaces) is as important as determining which to fill (called boxes). Later in the solving process, the spaces help determine where a clue (continuing block of boxes and a number in the legend) may spread. Solvers usually use a dot or a cross to mark cells they are certain are spaces.
It is also important never to guess. Only cells that can be determined by logic should be filled. If guessing, a single error can spread over the entire field and completely ruin the solution.

Best nonogram by far

I did rare this 5 stars but I would like to see a change. Currently if you make a mistake you can’t tell it’s a mistake until it contradicts something else. And you can go back but you don’t know how far is necessary. You CAN check for ‘correctness’ but the way it does, I couldn’t figure out if it was right or not. It was corrected but I couldn’t tell what it affected. I’d like to see just a highlight of what is wrong and I’d like to correct it so I know what it affects. Also a clue to how many mistakes would be nice. I don’t want to keep playing if there are mistakes.

If there was a counter for number of mistakes and I could just go back till it was zero and figure it out myself, that would be ideal :)

I’ve tried many nonogram apps and this one is my favorite by far. There are others with adventure style play but this one is just simple and I like that.

Wow...

I’ve just now started to really get into doing nonograms bc this app was the best I’ve had for these puzzles, and I got up the courage to do some of my own and I absolutely loved the puzzles that I made bc they were overall cool to look at...but I made the mistake of thinking other people would think they were cool and published them... the result was comments on how they were boring to do and insulting my picture and making me feel like crap for even expressing my style... apart from already having three of my favorite puzzles completely deleted by the system bc there was other puzzles in the same category? I thought that’s what categories were for? (Did you know that?)...and so now they’re gone for good, not even there for me to see and keep. I am not happy with this disrespect and censorship. Seriously this app is a contradiction, you simply aren’t allowed make puzzles that other people don't find worth their time, but do it to begin with only to be snobbish towards you. I’m only keeping this app bc of my puzzles that got accepted and the fact that I enjoy and appreciate the puzzles that people took their time to share with others their style.

P.S. Don’t be miserable and make others feel bad for it.

Fandamtastic

What else can be said? Except, I'm impressed with people's ability to create these puzzles. I might rate them as simple or easy but that shouldn't make a creator feel bad about themselves. Please keep developing more puzzles.
The 80x80 puzzles can be very difficult and I'd occasionally like to find new and easier nonograms to complete. I'd even welcome 3x3 just so I can feel like I accomplished something. BTW, how hard and difficult can the smaller puzzles be made? Yah, easy and simple with no regards towards the creator except, thank you.
And for the small squares, learn the zoom functions. Of course, larger puzzles will have smaller squares, if one tries to view them all at once. Zoom in and zoom out. The only other way to make the squares bigger is to upgrade your screen size.

Best nonogram app on the App Store

I’ve tried several apps besides this one and all of them have some design feature that really disrupts the user experience, e.g. limited number of mistakes, confusing ui, overemphasis on social features. This is just a bunch of good puzzles with a comprehensible, feature-rich ui. Unlike basically every other app it doesn’t tell you immediately when you make a mistake; you have the option of figuring it out for yourself before you use a hint. The only attempt at monetization is ads. I don’t know how frequent or disruptive these are because I use an adblock, but I bought the vip version anyway after realizing that this is basically the only usable app of its type. Keep up the good work guys, I hope my 2.99 keeps the servers running

Best nonogram I’ve used

I’ve been downloading different nonogram apps for months and this one is by far the winner. I’m very picky with my games, so large amounts of ads before, after, and during puzzle time are a huge turn off. This app definitely doesn’t do that and I love it.

I like that I can choose which puzzles to do and that it gives me color choices, I don’t use them because I’m too busy concentrating on the puzzle, but it’s a cool feature nonetheless. I know there’s a VIP version of the game and I’m not sure what extra features it carries, but the free version works splendidly.

I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to put their mind to the test.

This is THE nonogram app you’re looking for!

I am seriously impressed with this app! This is the first and only app I ever downloaded for logic coloring and I love love love it!!

It’s very helpful and easy to use. They give u a lot of tools to work with and you can adjust settings to your liking so that you can focus and color with ease.

There are endless options and categories of pictures/puzzles to color. At first I was going to start with the easy puzzles and work my way through all of them and then I found all these other categories of puzzles/pictures sent by users so now I will never need to try another app.

At first I was having a hard time registering myself so that I can download the other puzzles. It kept giving me a server error. And I would have only given 4 stars. But it worked for me today I am officially registered and can download! 5 stars for sure. Great great app.

If you’re looking for a nonogram app I promise THIS IS THE ONE. You won’t be disappointed!

Best Nonogram ever

I am so glad I found this app. I easily get bored with games so I usually stick to puzzle games but I can easily say this app really satisfies me. Unlike the other app called Picture cross who got lazy with coming up with ideas, u can tell the creators really took their time to create something others would enjoy. I hope they continue to update so we can like and follow people for their content, as I think it’s a great idea to inspire others to create other nonograms themselves. Again, this is an outstanding app. I love it so much and I can easily say that i play this game the most on my phone than my other games lol

Stands above the rest on the App Store

The amount of quality of life features is incredible. So many options to tweak the game exactly to your liking. Everything is super polished, and there's loads of content.

And the ads are so unobtrusive! I've had very few pop ups in over an hour of play, and all of them I've been able to skip immediately.

It's one of the best picross games I've ever seen, mobile or not. Clearly it was made by people who care and wanted as little to stand between you and the game as possible. Kudos! So much Kudos!

Good but....

Overall good app but the squares and crosses box on the tool bar is way too small. And they are right on the edge and in the corner. Makes it very difficult to select. I use a tablet and fingers, and it is consistently difficult to select the right box when changing from squares to crosses. Even this app is my favorite I would get so frustrated that I would stop playing and use another app that I don’t like as much.

My hands aren’t big, but the boxes are about the size of my fingertips. They need to be at least 3 or 4 times bigger. I can’t imagine how hard it could be for someone with a disability that affects the dexterity of their hands. If this is improved I would definitely upgrade to 5 stars.

Favorite game!

*UPDATE 5/26*
As of tonight everything seems to be working again. This is my favorite game. I lay in bed and play it for hours pretty much every night while I try to wind down to go to sleep. I love that users can submit new puzzles as those are the most fun. Highly recommend it!

It seems they may have stopped supporting this app as the servers seem to be down and the website for the developer also throws a ‘server not responding’ error. I hope this is wrong as I would love to come back and update my review. This was my favorite app prior to the issues.
