Jafx4,
Not quite what you’d expect.
I’ve got to admit I had some pretty high hopes for this game since I used to play it quite often on my Windows Millennium Edition PC, but this isn’t quite what you’d expect if you were looking for the identical game. Let me explain why. The game does not allow three balls per game, it only allows two. You can get an extra ball to play a full game but it’ll cost you an add and about 30 seconds of your life. The high score board only shows the highest score, the original showed 5-10 scores. When you go into a telliporter a light used to blink three times signifying which port the ball was going to launch out of. There are no initial shot bonuses like the original. If you earn an extra ball from shooting the ramp to the right you never receive an extra ball. Points are not added instantly, for example when you hit a spinner the points don’t show up until the spinner is done moving. We also lost quite a bit of the original settings here for some reason. For instance you could turn the music off and keep the sounds on in the original. With all that being said, it’s obvious there are plenty of bugs in the game, but if you can get past them then you’ll really enjoy this classic game.
Glormby,
A bit disappointing
I’ll start out by saying that of course it’s gonna be hard to measure up to the expectations that come with nostalgia. The game does great in some areas. The noises are the same, the layout of the board is the same, the game’s mechanics work similarly. It’s good to play when you’ve got a few minutes.

That being said, the game leaves much to be desired in some areas. Whenever the game would normally award you an extra ball, you get nothing here. Text comes up saying that you got an extra ball but you never get one. Games are limited to 2 balls, or 3 if you watch an ad. The physics that this game uses is a little different than the original. The ball can get stuck in some places, the most frequent seeming to be by the black hole under the ramp on the left. When this happens the game just spawns a new ball at the top of the board.

My main thing is with the 2 ball limit with no way to get extras through gameplay. This really limits how far you can take the game, and when you can lose a ball through no fault of your own, the extra balls are an especially important mechanic.

Broken flippers and messy physics
The game is very fun and great for when you have a few minutes of free time. That being said; The flippers will give out and not work, conveniently when you need to get the hit to beat a score or hit a mission. After a high score is beat, the ball will drop straight between the flippers after the initial launch several times in a row. I beat my high score several times, and all times but one, the ball just fell straight through the gates right after the launch without me having the chance to hit it once. The inconsistencies with the flippers are ridiculous as well. The physics are all jacked up. I’ll hit the launch pad ramp several times in a row trying to engage a mission, and the second I get the mission and need one more hit on the ramp, the power in the flippers change so I can no longer make the same shot I just made 5 times in a row. The reentry ramp or whatever it’s called has a nasty habit of sending your ball straight through the gates as well. If it’s coming down that ramp there’s a roughly 7/10 chance that it’ll just eat your ball. In short, the game plays like it’s rigged.
unpleased1999,
Too many inconsistencies and bugs
The inconsistencies are so frustrating in the game. How can the ball hit the same bumpers (any of them) and get a different forced lunch every time?
The flippers are inconsistent as well. In the original game I could get the ball to go just about anywhere I wanted, but if I hit the ball in the same place of the flippers, it could go just about anywhere.
one more thing: the bugs this game has is very annoying. If I can get the ball into one of any of the side holes, it’ll hop into anyone one. Or disappear & start back at the top.

Honestly, I would get rid of this game, but seriously, can the inconsistencies be fixed? I can’t beat my high score b/c of it. I can trust anything. It’s all luck. Which is not how the original game was. I miss all the sounds & the pleasure of finishing missions. I’m lucky if I can get 3 missions completed now.
JL0013,
A Fun Classic!
I was reminiscing earlier today on my Windows XP days where I would spend a lot of my computer time playing this game, so I typed in “pinball games” on my app store thinking of this game but fully expecting it not to be on a mobile app store. But to my surprise, amongst a plethora of pinball games, I found this game I spent so much of my childhood playing. It’s not a perfect copy of the original desktop/PC game. It’s missing some key sound effects and the slightly more refined mechanics of the original game, but it’s still enjoyable and brings back good memories. My only other complaint, and the main reason I rate this four rather than five stars, is that the ads got annoying really fast. I understand why they’re on a mobile game like this, but they’re way too frequent and I’ve had them interrupt in the middle of me playing the game and not just in between games. Other than those issues, which I hope can be tweaked or fixed, I’m glad I downloaded this gem of a game.
Butternut LARGE,
Some flaws but nice retrofit
OK, let me state the fact that this is a great on the go retro game. Reminds me of my windows XP days. I still play this game on a windows XP laptop, however there are some flaws that could be fixed.

The bumpers, right above the paddles, seem to bump way too hard than in the original. It seems is that there is so much force, you either land in the safety springs to the left and right side (the channels where the ball springs up to the top of the machine for a second chance) or it’s way too fast for you to tell and the ball is already gone.

Some sounds aren’t used, for example, launching the ball into the hyperlink channel. (Where the ball passes the white flipper) and it makes that loud, high-pitched, jarring noise. but these are no biggie.

The three round push tabs at the top seem to be over powered as well. I don’t remember getting the round push tabs all the way over to the green color for maximum points in less than 30 seconds. (Weapons Upgraded)

The game may have a function where you can tilt the machine, but I have not figured out a way to use it. That would definitely bring back some of the classic in the game as you need to tilt the machine to hopefully save your ball.

I have great faith in this app. It definitely is nice for being on the go or killing time. Hopefully the programmers will see this review. This is a good app, probably the only game app I have on my phone.
gsbkeys,
I used to love this game! But...
I used to love to play this, even though it had some bugs. But since the last big update a couple of months ago, it’s no fun any more. The physics don’t seem right, and it doesn’t have the feel of a mechanical pinball game like it used to. I can’t even get a mission, much less complete one. The flippers seem like they are way too powerful and aimed wrong. The ball goes way too fast, like it’s made of rubber or something. The flippers shoot everything straight upward, I can’t get into the side ramps no matter how hard I try. If it does go up a ramp by accident, it comes down straight in the middle and drains. No way to save it. Aside from losing the whole point of the game (the missions), it’s extremely difficult to do the weapon upgrades and totally impossible to get any bonuses or an extra ball. The flippers can’t bounce the ball back back up into the game any more, either. It used to feel like an old fashioned machine. That was why I liked it! What were they thinking? So disappointed in this “upgrade.”
Dthwriter,
Nostalgia! Pretty close to original but...
I’m so happy to have found this game. Functions pretty closely to the original windows version. I wish there were options to quickly start a new game or a customization menu with options to start with more balls, have control over game speed, tilt controls, etc.

As far as I’ve seen, there’s no option to re-launch without loosing a life (even if the ball goes out of play) as was occasionally offered in the original. Also in the original, you would be awarded for a “soft launch” where instead of launching the ball fully, the ball would come back down the launch tube and exit just above the right flipper, awarding points based on how many lights you illuminated before the ball came back down the launch tube. A small detail, but would be cool to bring back.

I seem to remember a multi-ball event in the original??

Occasionally the balls take a different path than the original game (as far as I can remember from 10-15 years ago, lol) when bouncing off of obstacles so maybe future versions can also give us an option to control the recoil force off obstacles via a customization menu prior to starting the game.

Thanks for developing and please keep the updates coming!
Good Sneeze,
childhood revived
I hold this game very close to my heart. I spent many a days at my old Dell Desktop installed with the latest version of windows XP playing this game for hours.
That said, this game is good for what it is. It’s buggy a little bit. Sometimes the bumpers and flippers don’t register the ball and it’s goes through. The ball sometimes has a mind of its own and goes weird ways. And the music is close to original, however part of the charm was having that ominous silence except for the game sounds. I think it’d really bring back the nostalgia if there was a option to turn off just the music and leave the OG sounds.
Overall the game is good, it has a lot of potential to be good and I hope the game dev’s polish and make it nice. it’s a fun trip down memory lane and worth the download.
dimz998,
Unbelievable and embarrassing…
That someone would spend so much time recreating so much of this original game but wouldn’t spend the necessary effort into making sure the game was actually functional. If you make a pinball game, then PLEASE make sure you make the flippers and the flipper physics work well and consistently! That aside, make the flippers work, period! In my game, the right flipper just plain freezes up completely, or lags by SECONDS - completely unplayable. The flippers are also completely inconsistent and the same launch will produce completely different results (many of them looking plain unrealistic).
Just so frustrating to be teased by something that looks and sounds like the perfect original, but instead just leaves you annoyed, frustrated and unsatisfied.

Please please fix this perfect wonderful little game!
