Description

Get in the Orange Zone and make every workout count! Studies have shown workouts with 12 or more points burn more calories and provide the best results. Earn 1 point for each minute you spend in the orange and red zones during your workout.

Use your Apple Watch or connect any Bluetooth heart rate monitor for heart rate and see your real-time zones, points, calorie burn, and more.

Orange Zones is a workout tracking app for measuring intensity, whether at home, outdoors, or in the gym. We create personalized zones, based on your max heart rate, so you can focus on doing your best and getting the best result from your workout.

Leave your phone at home for your Orange Zones runs using the stand-alone Apple Watch or set your iPhone on your treadmill to see a large display of your stats during your workout.

Now with support for starting and stopping workouts on your iPhone, your phone display can be used as a real-time monitor of your stats as well as for viewing your workout details after your workouts.

Whether you're an athlete or fitness newbie, Orange Zones can help you stay on track and achieve your goals. By breaking down fitness barriers of ability and instead of tracking your zones, our goal is to create the most inclusive and effective workout platform available.

Orange Zones supports a variety of workout types including HIIT, Running, Cycling, Hiking, Cardio, Rowing, and more.

Heart Rate Zones
Orange Zones has five heart rate zones so you can understand your exercise intensity at a glance.

1. RED - For improving performance and speed.
2. ORANGE - For getting faster and leaner. Drives metabolism.
3. GREEN - For improving cardio endurance.
4. BLUE - For longer exercise. Predominantly uses fat for energy.
5. GREY - For preparation and recovery. Does not improve fitness.

Maximize your afterburn, or "EPOC" by earning at least 12 points, spending at least 12 minutes in the Orange and Red Zones. Or, opt for a lower intensity day and stay in the Green Zone to improve endurance.

kemmott,
Great App for going incognito at OTF
Anyone who loves OTF workouts but doesn’t need (or want) to see their name on the monitors or the linked to the screen above their treadmill should get this app. The display is easy to read with the critical information in large numbers. Coupled with the OTF color zones, you can understand your status with a quick glance. The end of the workout summary is fantastic - showing but time spent in the zones and a visual breakdown of of the workout by color.

It would be nice if future version would be able to have some customization of the display screen, even with a simple swap between actual heart rate and the zone %, but that isn’t a show stopper. Also, would be good if it could do more of the settings/set-up via iPhone versus only on the watch or at least have a walk through prompt set up, especially with the haptics (on/off).
2010brooks,
LOVE
I love this app!! I use it at my OTF studio. I don’t have one of their heart rate monitors because I found this. I love that I can just see it right on my watch. It syncs up with your activity on your watch as well- for my classes it puts it in as a HIIT workout which I love that it syncs. I had this app on in my first OTF class when they let you use one of their heart rate monitors for free - and it was very accurate to what I got through them as well. You just need to calculate your max heart rate and put it in which is so easy. This seems to have been updated because the app on your phone does now save the workouts which is good to look back on. Can’t go wrong with this app! Especially if you don’t want to buy a heart rate monitor from OTF for $129 and want the same experience with the points system.
malincharlotte,
Updated review - amazing customer service & app!
After posting the initial review below, I received an email from customer support within 24 hours. I then continued to receive responses to follow-up emails within an hour or less with helpful information until my issue was resolved and app is working correctly. LOVE this app, can’t workout without it. Can’t believe that with this kind of customer service, the app is free! I would pay for this app.

I have tried using this app while wearing the watch on my wrist (series 3) and also around my bicep using an arm band. On both occasions I couldn’t get a heart rate reading - the screen just stayed stuck at 48%, even though the time kept ticking. Help!
Tyler Sheinberg,
Perfect for OTF
For a free app, this is great. Works well as a companion with OrangeTheory Fitness classes (obviously doesn’t link to the studio screen). App is exclusively for Apple Watch (no iPhone app). Post-Workout data is emailed and not saved in the app for later review. Only way to review data is via the email. Recommend saving this email or creating an Excel table to input data so that you can go back and look at trends. Saves as HITT workout into Apple’s Health App (time, calories, and heart rate). If the App creator made an iPhone App that stored all my data for quicker reference and comparison (including Weekly, Monthly, Yearly points, graphs, and support for a “social”-style platform), then I would pay for that (assuming reasonably priced).
Alemendezs,
Hoping developer sees and answers!
I really want this app to work. Tried out a class at OTF and loved the concept. However, didn’t love the idea of spending $129 on the heart monitor plus the workouts can easily be done in a home gym on my own... As soon as I left class I sat in my car and found this app. I downloaded onto my phone and went through the steps to download the Apple Watch app but it’s not showing up. After it tries to link, it tells me it can’t find it and to do it manually through the watch app but the app doesn’t show up there either. I am only able to use it on my phone after I’ve finished a workout. How do I fix it? I would like to use it while I’m working out so I can see how I switch between the zones. HELP !
youknowwhattimeitisgorl,
I love coach Karen!
I am a regular member at the orangetheory lacanada and Pasadena studios in southern California and my consistency is in large part to coach Karen Torrell. She is not only an exceptional coach who keeps me motivated throughout my workouts, but is an amazing person who makes me look forward to waking up early on Saturday and Sunday mornings to see. My friends and I at these studios are huge fans of hers and often refer to ourselves as “Karen’s girls” or some 1980’s fan-girl equivalent. She was the first coach I had when I started at this studio, and is an invaluable part of my fitness journey. I couldn’t be more thankful to have met her.
AppRaja,
Version 1.3.1 does’t work
I have Apple Watch series 2. After upgrading app version to 1.3.1, the app doesn’t work well. I noticed that while working out, the HR captured has a delay. I could be running at a really high speed and I can feel my HR going really high, but the app on watch shows I’m in the green zone. After I start walking when my HR goes really low, the app on watch shows that I’m in the red zone. I also noticed that the latest update says I can see workouts in the app on my iPhone under History. When I go to history, it doesn’t show my workout. The other issue is calories burned is not accurate after the update. At the end of a 60 minute workout it showed that I burned 1000+ calories compared to the exact same workout 2 days ago that showed about 550 calories. After the update calories burned seems to have doubled. Before the update the app captured HR and calories burned accurately.
Mr. Zwiggy,
New business model, absurd subscription prices
I have tons of app subscriptions and I love to support independent app developers. Previously, the Free version of this app allowed you to track a workout and get color zones but history and full stats required a subscription. Now, the dev has removed free functionality, rendering the Apple Watch app useless. I’d gladly pay $10 or something to get that back, but absolutely not $90-$120 per year just for the limited value it provides. Plus, the sudden bait and switch has impacted my trust in the app. For OTF users, an OTBeat (under $100 used, $129 new) presents much better lifetime value, plus in-class connectivity. I’ll switch to one of the other HIIT trackers while waiting for a revision to their business model.
seanismac,
Not bad, not great.
Updated review as it seems the developer did not read my initial comments.

Connected my Apple watch to my OT Beat via bluetooth to see how the app compares to my OTF report. Made sure to put the same maximum heart rate and profile details. Results were similar, but not as exact as I expected. Having my heart rate coming from the same monitor while using the same zones, I expected closer results. This is while using the OT Beat heart sensor as the source for both my Apple Watch and the OT.

Also once Apple allows the "Always on Display" to be used by third parties this app will be even more useful. I may be in the minority who already have an OT Beat, though I wanted to see my stats while in the floor. For those who don't have access to any of the OTF heart rate monitors, this isn't a bad option.
Robvla12345,
The best for OTF and Apple Watch lovers
This app has been a game changer because I can use it on my Apple watch when I go to OrangeTheory and quickly see my heart rate zone and get a great summary after. The OTF band is glitchy and often keeps me in the grey zone. I was also having to look up at the screens all the time to see my zone. On this app my effort and zone color always match because I am bypassing the glitchy OTF band and when I change zones the watch vibrates so I don’t have to look at the screen all the time. Love it!!
