nooneinpar7,
Flawless hardware decoding
Edited because it now has HDR support, yay!

Compared to VLC, this app hardware decodes more often than not with supported codecs (VLC sometimes inexplicably doesn’t with 10bit HEVC files [device heats up] that this app can decode with hardware). It’s simplistic design is wonderful and I don’t feel compelled to dive into the settings and micromanage everything. What would make it even more of an essential video player is if true HDR output could be added, or at least it doesn’t work properly on the SE3. There’s an argument to be made that the benefits of HDR are limited on a simple LCD display, but when playing back HDR-encoded content like Sony’s Swordsmith demo in the system Files app, it will display in HDR mode as denoted by an HDR icon on the top left and the peak brightness and color gamut seem just a bit better compared to how it looks in this app and VLC (which also messes up the color, presumably from not getting the color gamut right). Ignore what I said about casting, I forgot you had to mirror screen using AirPlay for that to work.
Home on the Farm,
Extremely high quality video player
It’s rare to find such a treasure of an app, but Outplayer is handily one of the best video players available for iOS. The gesture controls are intuitive, the interface is clean, and the local web server is straightforward to use for transferring content. Attention to detail is given in small but delightful ways, such as the swipe seek pausing on +-0, useful for when you try to peek ahead bur returning to the current playback position. And the privacy policy is perfect. It states plainly: no user data is transmitted or collected. This app simply is an excellent port of MPV to mobile.

My only wish is for smb support with file browsing, since I try to keep my data consolidated on my NAS. So while I fulfill that need with another app for now, that doesn’t stop me from giving this app 5/5 stars and a full recommendation if you can deal with transferring media you plan to watch ahead of time.
xray98,
Super Impressive
I rarely write reviews, but had to for this. I wanted a video player that would play my x265 HDR 4K video files. VLC could play the video smoothly, but didn’t show HDR. PlayerXTreme showed HDR, but the video had dropped frames/was laggy. It also had ads that had no way to close without force closing the app. Infuse wouldn’t let me play 4K without subscription.

Then, I discovered Outplayer. A nimble app that easily and quickly played my videos with no stuttering, with full 4K, had no stuttering, and it was completely free. Unbelievable. This is one of the best apps I’ve discovered and I’m so thankful to the developers for making it. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for the absolute best video player app on iOS/iPadOS.
CptCookies12,
Best video player I’ve used on iOS!
The interface is simple and to the point while still being on par with competitors like VLC and Infuse. Video playback is the selling point of Outplayer, outshining its competitors like VLC and Infuse. It’s able to play back basically any video that I can throw at it without asking to pay for codecs like Infuse will, or temporary video artifacts that VLC can occasionally run into. The video loop feature alone is fantastic, being gapless and not struggling at all like VLC does for me.

Truly fantastic, and I already know that when I get the chance, I want to support the developer with the premium upgrade.
Dinner,
I love MPV!
MPV is the golden standard — I love this app because of it, now we we can use it on mobile. Bought premium and it was worth it for the extras feature too.

Feature Requests!
- please add mpv config support! This would be extremely powerful and unlock the full potential of the mpv integrations. Specifically I’m interested in messing with saturation and other basic video filters, but I’m sure others would have other usecases.
- please add picture-in-picture support — this would enable multi-tasking while binge-watching shows and would be a killer feature (i.e. I don’t think other video player support this)
Altimach,
Perfect for iPad Pro
I’ve been looking for an app that makes playing your local media files easy. VLC was a pain because even though it plays everything, for some reason it does not organize your files, making what should be simple into a complete mess. This app picks up the slack, and is well worth the full price for the extra features. If you don’t want to pay, this app still is far better than the others I’ve tried. I hope the developer continues to build on the great job they’ve done with this app!
Dario9999,
Wish I could give it six stars
Loving it more and more. While I have Infuse and NPlayer Plus I am now making this my primary player.

The only caveat to seven stars - scrubbing videos I tend to trigger the notification window on the phone. I wish we could have an option to move the video scrubber to the bottom of the screen versus having it at the top. Otherwise, I like the new sub menu to skip videos without exiting the player UI. Works better on the tablet though since the screenshot option takes up valuable space :)
Olalaalolo,
Absolutely brilliant
Sure, vlc can play every video format, but its UI is just horrendous. Outplayer so far has been able to play all videos I have with absolutely pretty and minimalistic interface. I love how it groups videos by folder, a feature I think VLC has somewhere but I just couldn’t figure out. I also love how it can extract chapters and credit sections of a movie. I probably don’t need to pro version to have brightness and volume gestures but I buy it anyway to support the dev. Thanks for a great app!
nJoee,
Exactly what I wanted.
I was looking for a way to play videos on my iPhone and iPad the same way I do on my PC with MPV and THIS IS IT. I can send files into Outplayer and organize them using the Files app or use the local web server if I want, fully styled subtitles and different video containers and codecs are supported with hardware acceleration, even with ordered chapters, it’s FAST, and it doesn’t crash on me like VLC has been doing lately.

I’m so happy this exists and that I managed to find it from a self promo on reddit. This is the video player I was looking for.

THANK YOU.
Moojji,
Great Video Player
Just want to say, this app is great. I have tried various other media players in the App Store and came to the conclusion that this one has the most potential. It is light weight and provides a simple yet customizable experience. Overall i highly recommend using this to manage your videos over other programs and hopefully the features are improved even further in future updates!
