Neeoe7,
It’s OK Devs need to worry about fixing cameras
The app is alright sometimes it can be a bit slow. What I absolutely dislike about this company is their lack of customer service it can take up to 2 business days until you hear back from them and they always have problems with the owl cam not connecting to your phone. At first they told me it was a battery problem the camera shuts off when battery falls below 12v however most vehicles that are 2+years can have their batteries lower than 12v while parked. After buying a brand new battery for a new vehicle that I didn’t need to initially the owl cam started to “connect” pass 3 weeks and the same issue is happening, I know it’s not the battery or the vehicle they are both new car is under 11k miles let’s see what their “customer” service will say to this. OH don’t forget when you call them Physically be prepared to wait 15-20m to have the robot tell you sorry all agents are busy right now leave a message you’ll never get that reply. Their app also seems to be broken as mentioned before the devs really need to worry about fixing the user to admin chat when asking questions rather than worrying about the layout and design. I’ve been with owl for over a year and a half now and the camera is only on or works for about 70% of the time. Their “bump” detection also does not work got two dings on my vehicle due to a hit and run and owl never picked it up at all (talk about having a good camera)
werbermanjenkins,
Needs serious improvement
I’ve been using this app with my camera for over a year now. It was ...ok... at best but for the last few months it’s really gone down. Looking at live view or your history is such a pain, with the quality being so horrible you can’t even tell you’re driving, and multiple attempts to even get your history to play when 90% of the time it’s just a black screen. Also, in the past I would get in to my car (which would set off the motion sensor) but as soon as I start my car it would read “driver recognized” and not send any alerts to my phone. Now whenever I get in my car I get multiple notifications about “movement detected” and “possible damage” as well as an incredibly blinding light that lasts about 20 seconds. It’s incredibly frustrating and makes me want to just unplug this camera. Only good thing about this camera now is that when you say the command to save a video clip, it saves the clip in perfect quality. But is that alone worth such an expensive price? I’m beginning to think not.

One year later review....
Don’t buy this product! Instead of improving with software updates and hardware revisions, this product actually has gotten worse. From day one there has been an issue with Bluetooth connectivity and the Geo fencing area that the manufacturer still refuses to address. Because of this you will receive an alert every time you enter your own vehicle. No one needs a notification to tell them they’re entering their own vehicle! The manufacturers fix.... advise you to turn off the notifications. :( This defeats the security features of the camera. Not only defeating a security feature but the manufacture is still advertising this as one of their main selling features, deceiving customers. Their newest hardware revision took what was originally a very sturdy camera mount, a solid camera housing and replaced it with cheap injection molded plastic. Their newest revision of the camera and mount is now cheap, flimsy and extremely prone to vibration. This newest revision now means that a lot of your footage is going to be unusable. What they also don’t tell you unless you read the fine print is that they restrict the amount of footage you can download from the camera. Restricting you to only getting video clips that are just a few minutes long. Do your own homework and research, but I would definitely not recommend buying this camera.

New owners don’t care about customers. They are just Cashing in
So ever since owl cam has switched owners everything has gotten horrible. The camera never connects to the app I can no longer connect to see live video. I haven’t been able to since the change. Also the cost of the entire thing is insane. As much as a cell phone, which gets used 100x more, still they charge a ridiculous amount for a service that doesn’t seem to work. I get lots of false positives when car is sitting in my driveway, but when my car was parked in the street and got hit I got No notification and couldn’t find any video Apparently nothing was recorded!!! So what good is the camera and all that cost. Not to mention I paid $350 for the camera and the box clearly says lifetime service included. This whole thing is a nightmare. Shame. The cell company that took over had the opportunity to support a great product. Now it’s just an expensive piece if Sh*t. It is painfully obvious the company that took over saw an easy payday to cash in and make a fortune off of the existing customers. I imagine this will shut down in near future. Can’t imagine they can continue to stay in business with the camera being so bad. I have absolutely nothing good to say about any of this since owlcam switched hands. So sad

Ok so here’s the deal. When the owl came out over a year ago it was the best and worked flawlessly. Let’s say almost a year into it the app was crashing , I could not link up on the phone through 4g and customer service was the worst. I found out that the company was sold and there was a new sheriff in town. I tried to call the new customer service , I got through after a very , very long hold. I thought maybe they could resolve the issue with my camera. They tried and tried , eventually I gave up and used the old Owlcam as a fishing weight😬. So fast forward a few months and see that Owlcam is pumping up a new camera with a bigger storage and better infrared night cam. I hesitate for a little while, but I break down as usual with all the new hype. I get the camera and hook her up , and just like that I’m back online. It’s been a few weeks and it’s working perfectly. No connection issues , don’t get me wrong it gets choppy here and there but it works great. I’m satisfied as of this moment. It works like it used to when they first came out. So 4 stars it is .
Ringbone,
Not quite yet
I wanted to love this camera. I really did. But the whole concept is confusing, and the app itself has been crashing (unable to open the app) every time I get an alert. Owl customer service suggests I reboot my phone or delete and reinstall the app. Well, I’m not going to be doing that 3-4 times a day which is what it is doing now! The confusing part: If you want to download one of your videos that is already on your camera it’s going to cost you a dollar a minute. I’m mean shouldn’t it just stream to your phone via WiFi or Bluetooth. I used 30 of my monthly credits in the first few days before realizing what was going on. The video is recorded on the camera that I bought for 350 but I have to pay to use it as well. If you want to record a clip (that is already on your camera) it will cost you a buck. Want to save a five minute clip.....five bucks. The live view.....I can understand the cost. It’s using cellular service and 4g ain’t free. But charging for watching your videos that are already in your camera. Not cool. That’s like Cobra (brand) charging you every time you remove your SD card from your camera. This is a bad business model. As for the camera itself. I can’t see any difference in quality than my old cheap Cobra dash cam....
Bren41,
Works great but, why landscape?!
The app works as promised, setup was easy and checking in on my car is super simple. But I'm really puzzled by the decision to force the user into a landscape orientation. The only apps that force me to use my phone in landscape are games, and this is not a game. Especially on iPhone X, landscape is claustrophobic and uncomfortable to use. Bizarre! Please offer portrait mode!

This last bit has nothing to do with the app or my rating of the app, but please please offer a magnetic mounting solution that allows for placement in other areas, like the top of the windsheild. Even an adapter that works with the RAM system of mounts would be amazing. I have two cars, and the mounts provided don't work well with either of them. Also, a power adapter for a 12V power port is needed! One of my cars does not have an ODB2 port (Tesla Model 3). While taking about alternative mounts, software should allow for a setting that understands camera is mounted upside-down and rotates clips automatically.

You guys have built a great foundation. Very happy with the camera itself. Just needs some options!
livingthesandylife,
Ok Owl, I see you.
This camera was super easy to install, especially for someone like me who constantly calls on her boyfriend for help with all things tech. I was able to install my camera on my own in under 5 minutes! The flashing beacon was a great touch to deter criminals. I work in construction and park in a high traffic area around some pretty rough neighborhoods. After a break in last year my anxiety had been at an all time high when parking my car. Having the Owl Cam in my car gives me the peace of mind knowing that my car is safe. I love how easy it is to capture videos, hands-free, with a simple voice command. It really is crazy how much action you see on the road! I get so pumped to show people the live stream in and around my car, and their reactions are priceless. I definitely recommend this product to anyone who is always on the go like I am and cares about the safety of their car! Oh, I can't forget to mention the Owl Car Cam app! The clean interface and ease of use is awesome!
PKY boy,
Cool, but here's some suggestions
Would be cool if they added a delete all or select all option when it came to clips. Or a box beside clips to check a clip. Deleting each clip individually the way it's set up now is time consuming. I like the whole community thing they have with other ppl's clips. Would love to have more hands-on control over the camera functions tho. Since there isn't any night vision with the camera (hint hint), it'll be cool if they had it to where u could customize how long u wanted to keep the rear camera lights on. Because I have tint in my car and it's already hard to see at night. I also tested my cam by going in the car, got the notification, & turned it off right after I got the notification. The footage was lost until the cam was turned back on. What if a thief stole the cam too? Would I lose footage and not be able to identify them? If so, that should be fixed. Otherwise, a $350 dash cam would be stolen and I probably wouldn't know who did it.
Bigtom72,
New update - No rollover credits / camera issues
This camera and app seem to just get worse and worse with these updates. Now they implemented a rollover credit system but even if you just purchased the camera. I bought mine around Christmas 2018 and have barely used credits and now it’s May 2019 and I have “0” rollover credits. I spoke with customer service and they said you need pay for the 60 credits for $4.99 for those to rollover to the next month. Why is it that you spend $349 for a dash cam and now you can’t get your unused credits to rollover. Also now if you don’t like to have the inside recording you on while driving, if you don’t remember to swipe up on the camera before you park you inside camera won’t record. So if someone breaks in from approaching your vehicle from behind or around the sides your inside camera won’t get them breaking into your car. You will just get a notification that you have damage or movement. Owlcam you need to get you priorities in order and fix these issues as I know people will complain about no unused credits and the camera turning off on the inside for live view.
