See murals come to life in a new way through Augmented Reality!
Discover more about amiskwaciwâskahikan's (Edmonton) rich cultural history as seen though the eyes of 4 local artists.
Paint the Rails is a series of 5 community-inspired murals across transit stations in Edmonton, painted by lead artists AJA Louden and Carla Rae Taylor while mentoring artists Matthew Cardinal and Dana Belcourt. This project was coordinated by the John Humphrey Centre for Peace & Human Rights. The Paint the Rails App brings the murals to life in a new way as the first Augmented Reality Murals in the city!
Looking at the murals through your device's camera while using the app will activate animations and unlock new stories and information.
You can find murals to explore at each of the following stations:
- Churchill LRT station (Returning Home)
- University LRT station (River)
- Clareview LRT station (Fabric of the City)
- Kingsway LRT station (Stories That Weave Us)
- Corona LRT station (Strong As A Forest)
If you're not able to access the murals in person, you can still explore the artwork and activate the animations and additional info by using the app on images of each mural, found at the JHC website.
Thanks to Andy Bacon who designed this app and created all of the animations you'll see within!
