rmayer99,
Mostly good but lacks volume control for Practices
I do like this app in general, but it does lack one feature that exists online if you go through the browser version: individual separate volume control of left hand and right hand sound in the “practice“ sections. Such a control allows you to turn off the sound you hear from, say, the right hand part while playing it yourself accompanied by the left-hand part. Otherwise there is much to like about this app. It would be improved if you could save the various tutorials into your own folders instead of dumping everything into the “My List“ section.

Note: In a VERY quick response to my feedback about the lack of a volume control icon, the latest version now does offer that feature. Way to go Pianote! Now if we can just get those separate individualized folders I mentioned I’ll up my rating to 5 stars!
Wackoweber,
Amazing!
I downloaded all the major piano apps and wasn’t vibing with any of them until I found this one, it is EXACTLY what I was looking for. It feels like actually having a teacher and the knowledge progression is logical and is filling in all the gaps I had from years of playing without actually taking any lessons. It is really amazing to see the combination of theory and practice yielding results in my production sessions, where as before I would have been stuck doing things by ear, now there are a lot of instances where I quickly apply a bit of theory and boom, like magic the vibes keep flowing without missing a beat. I really like how the beginning modules are focused on proper technique, as someone who is more interested in learning theory and technique so I can apply it to my own creative endeavors, this is great. I’m even stoked to learn the songs now, because it isn’t just ‘oh learn this random song’ it’s ‘ok here’s the technique and here is a song where we can apply it in action’. So amazing, what a time to be alive, great work y’all!!
update sub par,
Potential to be an amazing app
I was hesitant to get this app but I couldn’t say no to free 7 day trial. I had read some reviews where the app was glitchy on the iPad from a couple years ago so I figured it was probably fixed.
Nope, the app doesn’t fill your entire screen, watching videos is very glitchy. I have amazing internet (150mbps) and the videos would just stop randomly through a lesson and just keep loading. (I’ve never once had this happen to me while streaming anything in my house)

I think the app is designed well where you can follow certain instructors and learn from the play styles you like, but the app just needs to be a little more easy to work with. I’m not spending $30 a month to get frustrated with an app while trying to learn piano. I’m also not going to try and learn from my tiny phone. The tablet situation really needs to be worked out because the tablet is so ideal for piano learning. If it wasn’t for the iPad app not being optimized, I would have paid for it
nikwax,
Mostly really great!
First off, if you’re debating Pianote or Flowkey, the simple answer from me is Pianote. I spent a year with Flowkey before switching to Pianote, and hands down, Pianote is a superior product.

Pianote has a good variety of instructors, all of them very upbeat, personable, and very human about the experience of learning and playing music. There are a variety of learning paths, the most basic in my experience is Cassie’s Technique class. Another path is The Method, which assumes you have some technique and are interested more in pop music. There’s a Classical teacher and book, and there’s several other teachers with their own specialties. The videos are well done and fairly comprehensive.

I’ve taken a star off due to the haphazard quality of the written support materials. Mistakes abound. For a beginning student, this could be very confusing and frustrating. For a non-beginner, it’s really aggravating to see error after error in the sheet music. Looking at comments in the sections, these errors are long standing. It’s baffling why such an otherwise high quality course would do this.

I highly recommend purchasing the Pianote Planner, which lends structure to your practice routine, and helps in setting and tracking goals. It’s helped me a lot and we’ll worth what it costs.
Evereddie60,
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you
This app has made a great course even better. I spent weeks reviewing all the piano courses on the market. I did the demos and free trials on all and decided on Pianote. Not to be confused with same name apps. This is the real deal. If you want to learn only how to play a song or two by playing a game, look at the other apps. If you want to truly learn how to play the piano and read music so you can play any song, this is the learning method you need. Lisa and her group make an effective program that is fun and lets you learn at your own pace. The lessons even have a unique feature that allows you to slow them down yet you can still clearly hear the audio. Huge help. I went all in with a full access year subscription and I couldn’t be happier. Again great learning course made even better with this app.
RyGuy330,
THE REAL DEAL!
Folks, this is the real deal when it comes to piano apps. Lisa and all the other instructors are so knowledgeable. They keep it simple yet challenging at the same time. I cannot tell you how excited I am to sit at the piano each morning. I couldn’t be happier. Keep up the GREAT WORK Pianote!❤️
Darwin456,
Worst App Ever
This is one of the worst apps for iPad I’ve ever had the displeasure of using. When playing video it keeps flickering between a small and large screen. I’ve complained to Pianote about this problem before and it was never resolved. They just kept messaging me questions over and over until I finally gave up. I can’t imagine that I’m the only customer complaining about this. I just restarted my subscription and low and behold the same problem. Don’t waste your frustration if trying to view on an iPad. Just use your web browser instead. You’d think they paid the developer mucho dinero for this piece of junk they’d want to get their money’s worth. It never surprises me the poor decisions corporations make - especially when it comes to customer satisfaction.
dh12762,
Great app, but…
It’s a very cool app, but it has one major problem that I’m running into. That is that the app doesn’t understand my piano, unfortunately it is an older piano that isn’t tuned properly and because of this the app doesn’t understand that I’m playing the correct notes. The problem lies in the fact that there’s no apparent way to turn this feature off, as it doesn’t work with my piano.

Five Stars
I’m just going to write one sentence which is: The app is really really really worth it, it really does make everything more than easy during your calming journey and you will never feel bored at all with this wonderful app!!!
SteveotheFace,
Pianote is a GAME CHANGER!
I have done piano courses before and ended up quitting. This is so much better than anything I’ve done before! Following through the step by step courses of the Method and my Course Pack has helped me learn stronger. Thanks Lisa!
