A major update, with faster developing, higher resolutions, and Facebook and Flickr support!
New sharing and resolution options can be accessed through your device's Settings app.

* New rendering engine adds support for high-resolution 2592 x 1936 maximum output on iPhone 4
* Fine-tuned development options to support the greater dynamic range of iPhone 4's camera
* Added Flickr sharing with support for Title, Description and optional upload to the official Plastic Bullet pool
* Added Facebook sharing with captioning and upload to Mobile Uploads directory
* New resolution choices of Low (50%), Medium (75%) and High (100%) in Settings app are based on the original image's size. Percentage image size support ensures that small images will not be scaled up, preserving image fidelity
* Maximum resolution support on 3G = 1600x1200, 3GS = 2048x1536, iPhone4 = 2592 x 1936
* Orientation fix for iOS 4 capture
* Supports iOS4 suspend and resume so users can return to developing or upload later. Developing and Upload are fully interruptible (but do not run in the background)
* Approximately 33% faster than 1.0. iPhone 4 is approximately 50% faster than 3GS.
* Now supports iPhone 4, 3G, 3GS, iPod Touch, and iPad (as iPhone app) running iPhone OS 3.1 and later

Jay Roque,
Update Needed?
Looks like an update is needed? I’m running IOS 13.1.3 and the app crashes when I go to save a newly enhanced photo.
Fuser-Invent,
Lots of Cool Plastic Camera Variations
I really felt like I was taking a risk when buying this app but it turned out to be awesome. There really does seem to be an infinite variety of light leaks, de-focusing, color variation and rough edges. It's not very hard to quickly find a good filter for your photo. I'd definitely recommend this app to anyone.

With that said, the app desperately needs a new hi-res icon that better represents the quality you will find inside. The current icon makes it look cheap and was part of what make my buying decision hard. The interface is also lo-res and could use some better graphics. From within the app store it just looks like a cheap app that should be free. Make it look a little better and I'm sure more people would give it a try.

I've also noticed that even when working with hi-res photos from my gallery, they look lo-res in the app when I'm previewing them. They save just fine when I choose my filter but it makes it more difficult to figure out how it will really look by having to save multiple pictures and switch back to the camera roll.
cjclark68,
Please update
This used to be a great app until they stopped updating it. App no longer works on my iPhone.
Strooper,
Love it.
Great effects!
ambimb,
Made for play: Make play easier, please
Great app b/c of its randomness -- you never know exactly what you're going to get. But here's how it would be better: Allow me to mark a few variations that I like to return to after I've seen a few more. Example: I like the first effect so I tap it to "save" it in a temporary queue, then I look at a few more variations and see another version I like. I save that one temporarily, too. I should be able to do this with up to four versions, then I should be able to view the variations I've saved so I can then choose my favorite. As it is now, if you like an effect you have to save it to your camera roll if you want to return to it after hitting "refresh" in PB. That's a waste of time.

Also: When I tap a variation to make it fill the screen, another tap on it should switch back to the four-up view. Having to click the little "back" arrow is also a waste b/c it forces the user to find a tiny target for no good reason.

These are just suggestions that would make the app better for me. I love it, as is, but I'd love it more with these additions.
Guitarbrain,
Impressed!
I have about 30 camera and photo editing apps. I was not sure this was an app I wanted since I generally prefer to control the editing and application of effects to my photos. I did not think that the random application of the effects was something I would care for. However, I decided to give this a try when the update came through increasing the resolution of the saved pics. After just trying it for a few minutes, I knew I had found a great app. I thought I would likely have to go through page after page of thumbnails before finding maybe one that I liked. Well, I was surprised that the random effects make for many great pics and it didn't take long before I found several great effect combinations for saving. Works fast, saves fast. Definitely worth the price. Pleasantly surprised. Highly recommended.
clonerevolt,
Love it
Super simple interface, faster and higher res with the latest update, and really great effects, like shooting with a $20 plastic camera but you can still always attain sharp focus. Just keep your compositions bold and simple and Plastic Bullet will turn it into a work of art.

The non-repeating randomness and lack of control is the best part! Like photography used to be, when you had to think about what you were shooting given the expected outcome (yes it's random, but within a range you'll become accustomed to after a few uses). Sometimes I have to go through two dozen or more variations to find one I like, but it's always worth the time (a minute, tops?).

I might like the option to seed the algorithm with different values, or restrict the output to monochrome or a certain color or range. Not too much control, though. It would lose its magic!
secedenyc,
Great application
I've used Red Giant's video effects software for years and couldn't resist an iPhone app. Plastic Bullet randomly generates an endless series of grunge looks for your pictures. If the look isn't your style then don't bother with the app. If it is a look you like, the main issue you'll have is trying to save only a few variations.

For future versions of the app, i'd love to be able to save favorite presets, like Swanko Lab's recipes. Even further down the line, the ability to select a generated image variation and be able to edit some of the effect parameters with sliders before saving would be fantastic. My Last wish would be a companion desktop application, similar to Look Suite's Looks Builder, to use on full resolution images.

Until then Plastic Bullet is definitely an app worth having.
purrscilla,
One of my most-used photo apps!
I have an embarrassing large collection of photo apps and honestly, many of them rarely get used after I initially try them out. Plastic Bullet is an exception -- I use this app all the time! Despite my history as a control freak, I'm finding that I enjoy the random discovery process that Plastic Bullet invites -- and if I don't like the first four options it presents, I just keep refreshing until I find just the right match. Photos that were just okay become interesting and sometimes more meaningful. Artist photographers will enjoy the surreal and dreamy effects you can generate. I say, get it -- I'm betting you'll like it!
beatminer,
hmm no full res......
Too bad I didnt know this didnt support full res photos before i purchased it or i would not have bought it. all though i was very excited for this app the lack of full res is just lame. the randomness thing is cool but i still think Red Giant should give us some controls we can turn on and off at least as it can be way over the top sometimes with the random settings. I think overall the effects produced look great. PLEASE update us soon with full res support and square images as well while your at it :)
After leaving this review i went to the Red Giant site and read this "Plastic Bullet requires iPhone OS 3.0 and later. The app currently support 800x600 output only (this is due to memory limitations on the older iPhone 3G). A future, free update will support higher resolution on newer devices." Looks like they will eventually add full res support!
