This is THE BEST podcast ap out there!
This has the most useful features of any podcast app by far and it is very reliable! You should go to settings to configure it just the way you want it. Can stream pods OR download. The interface is better than any others once you get used to it. The only confusing thing is that you need to press the buttons at the bottom twice to flip the view. Sometimes it pops up a list of new episodes instead of showing the tile view of all of your different podcast subscriptions. Wish I could turn this feature off because it is very annoying. You have to click the button a second time to make the page flip. Also “share podcast” feature doesn’t work. Another REALLY ANNOYING thing is the “ Listen to the latest” pop-up screen, that you have to click skip to use the app. I hate that!!! Everything else about the app is fantastic.

Amazing Features But…
I absolutely love so many things about this app and would recommend everyone trying it out for a few weeks. The app does a great job in helping you discover new podcast and ones that are very much related to the ones you already love. The app does an amazing job in helping you find new podcast however, there is one problem that is very annoying. It seems very slow in bringing in new episodes. I use a lot of different podcast apps. Player FM is almost always behind in bringing in new episodes. For many people this may not be a big deal but I like getting the new episodes as soon as they drop, this is especially true all of all the news podcasts I subscribe to. I wasn’t able to find anything that indicates how frequently the app refreshes to find the latest episodes. Also It seems on Apple devices that I am not receiving notifications that new episodes are available. I think Player FM has some very good features and everyone should give it a try. However, getting the new episodes as soon as possible and a good notification system seems to be lacking from the app currently. Hopefully, some of these issues will be improved soon and then I could enthusiastically offer a 5 star rating.

Beautiful app - Testing Premium for a month
I am a hardcore podcast listener with over 600 subscriptions in my old pod catcher app, mostly Audiodramas. With so many subscriptions in the same genre, having an app that lets me create lists or groups of PODCASTS is an absolute must. Almost every podcast app has playlists for EPISODES only. I’ve only found ONE other player that had podcast lists. I downloaded 14 other podcast apps before settling on PlayerFM. It has a VERY pleasing aesthetic with podcast groups, tagging, bookmarks, custom themes, and advanced controls. Yet it’s not overwhelming or difficult to use. I bought premium for a month before I commit to a year sub. I really like it so far. This is a beautiful and solid app with great features other apps just do not have.

This was very helpful because my iCloud storage was full. Best podcast app, easiest to use
I have an iPhone and one of my biggest complaints was their podcast app had two options for sort, newest or oldest and sometimes playing even those was cumbersome
PlayerFM can sort by those and also shortest, longest and random and they stick! Playlists are also really easy to create and edit as well. Plus there seems to be more cryptid and horror podcasts which I love
And did I mention you can set it so it’ll skip awkward silences and pauses and reduce background noises like pages turning and throat clearing? And the speed has more options for the monotone ones with awesome stories so they don’t put you to sleep
I recommend it to everyone who is looking for podcast recommendations in my horror and paranormal communities
The one thing I wish was for CarPlay integration, it doesn’t show up on my car screen and I’m limited to using my phone to skip a podcast or find one which is cool unless I’m driving and our state is hands free or a ticket

Drags my idevice battery down
Everything in these reviews mentioned that is good is very true. This is an excellent app for organizing, auto downloading and playing Podcasts.I’ve been using this podcast player for five years now and would’ve given it a five star review.
The auto downloading function in particular is very powerful. Most other podcast apps that I have seen really don’t allow for total control of auto downloads, they just seem to download the newest episode or so.
This app allows for a down loading of as many or as few episodes you want. You can do it newest first, or oldest unplayed first, which is great for older shows you want to listen to chronologically.
However, about a half year ago, I noticed that it started to drag my iPhone and my iPad‘s battery down at a very high rate. I have tried ripping it out and reinstalling the app several times and nothing helps. None of my settings have been changed, for instance, I never allow downloading on my cellular service because I don’t want to pay for it and that has been a constant setting the whole time.
The people at the helpdesk via email seem very nice but all they really come up with is to reinstall the app which is not effective.
So, unfortunately, I started to use this app for my older chronological episodes only and I use another app, which is not really as good, for current episode type shows.
I really hope that they fix this battery drain problem.I would come back full-time for sure

Not bad but some bugs

Issues listed below are still happening and no response from the developer.
So far it is one of the better podcast apps for the features that do work. But there are some issues. - When listening via Bluetooth, in my case my car, it will loose it’s place in the podcast and start over when the Bluetooth connection breaks then starts. This happens when I leave my car then get back in. It makes me not want to listen via Bluetooth - During play and when the screen is locked (iPhone), the app will stop playing without touching the phone. It does not appear to have anything to do with emails or other notifications, not sure what is causing it. It happens at different lengths of times. I have to manually restart the podcast.

The sponsored podcasts (aka ads) ruined the experience
I happily used and loved PlayerFM for probably around 4 years and had a paid account almost from day 1. But they started putting “sponsored podcasts” (podcasts shown to users after payment to PlayerFM, which realistically are advertisements) in various parts of the app, including search results. It became too annoying seeing an ad as the first result in EVERY search I did. So I looked around and, much to my surprise, found a podcast app I like more. After 4 years I thought I’d be using PlayerFM until I or the company died, whichever comes first, but the frequent ads where what killed the experience for me. If you don’t mind the ads even with a paid account, it’s a great app and service.

Used to love it
I’ve been using this app for ages, but I find that it sounds wise on my new iPhone, which is really weird. I also listen at night a lot and I find it annoying that you can no longer see the sleep timer for the end of the episode, now you have to set for a multiple of 5 or 15 minutes. It shouldn’t matter to me as much, but it does. So I find myself using other apps more often. Please change the sleep timer back!!!

Good interface, but buggy
This has the cleanest interface of any podcast app I’ve used. I just wish it was more reliable. The most annoying problem is that sometimes the rewind and fast forward buttons don’t do what they’re supposed to. I think this gets triggered if a phone call comes in while I’m listening, but I’m not sure. It gets to a state where rewind always takes me back to the same spot. since I often use rewind to replay a passage when something has distracted me, this is a very disappointing bug.
No matter how I set the settings, it always waits until I open the app before downloading new episodes. That’s really annoying because I only open the app when I’m ready to start listening, and I have to wait for my downloads!

Latest update took a 2 star app to 1, should really be zero!
The new design/layout makes buttons unpressable/completely disabled in the list view. The play button is almost impossible to press and the three “...” settings button cannot be pressed at all while in list view. This used to only occur with the show on the bottom of the list in the previous version. You now have to open each show individually to gain full functionality of the play/settings buttons.
Why do you make things worst with each update? Regardless of the ‘new’ look... its just a facade to cover up issues you still have not properly addressed.
Also resuming shows STILL does not work as it used to years ago. You still have to play a different show to try ensure your current show resumes from where you let off, what a hassle!
Maple Media deserves an award for taking decent apps and magically turning them into trash. I would suggest looking at Maple Media’s Glassdoor page as well. They treat their employees/devs poorly and seem like an awful company to work for, it truly reflects in quality of their products.
