LadyVanBuren,
Underwhelmed
Maybe it was the hoopla with the epic games purchase, or the massively delayed roll out, but I expected so much more. I use another paid app which also processes in the cloud, but the resulting model is available to export directly to my phone in any format, yet that is hardly the deal breaker. The deal breaker is that with half the amount of images, in WORSE lighting conditions, the other app blows the results from RealityScan out of the water. I mean, so far, I wouldn’t use a single result from this app versus the other, and the one time purchase was clearly worth it. I’m not naming the other app so I don’t come across as some paid shill, which should tell you everything you need to know. This app needs serious work. The cropping alone is insufficient, which requires that the ground be included as part of the scan, whereas several other apps allow you to literally erase all parts of the scene/model you do not want and then recenters and orients correctly. That’s a small issue compared to other complaints I have. Please go back to the drawing board and charge if you have to. Look at some of the other photogrammetry apps for inspiration, you desperately need it.
CitizenBert,
Needs more development…
…especially after being delayed for so many months, this wasn’t the product I was expecting. I’m fine with only Sketchfab integration for a free app, but the photogrammetry algorithms need serious work. I did a test on my YETI water bottle on a bright floor with 50 photos in good lighting conditions, and the resulting mesh had the top and bottom of the bottle but completely left out the middle 60 percent. Also, I don’t know why this is seemingly being limited to only photos. Unleash the LiDAR scanners on the Pro model phones and iPads. Seems like a no-brained and other scanning apps already do it. I’m a devoted fan of Epic, Unreal Engine, RC, and especially Twinmotion, and this initial release of RealityScan is a huge letdown. I really hope you turn this around and really put more thought into the product, because it’s not yet at the level of quality people have come to expect from Epic. I’m giving two stars instead of one because the makings of something great are there, and it needs more thought and building out. Looking forward to seeing you guys bring it.
SMP Films,
I LOVE this app and use it for pro stuff
I’m an Unreal Engine Technical Artist who creates new short films and virtual production tools for other real-time creators weekly and this app is absolutely a part of my pipeline. What I scan is never my final product. It’s a fantastic starting point. It’s a scan that’s fast, easy and extremely shareable with others. Whether I’m using it to scan toys and rig them so I can animate them or if I’m scanning a piece of furniture at a store, so I can see what it would look like in my house, I constantly find new uses. I am seeing a lot of bad reviews, but I am not seeing a lot of outside of the box thinkers. This is different. Sure, there are other apps that can scan, but this is just different. I don’t work for epic, nor do I have any special interest to make this look better than the rest but I personally love this app and it’s only going to get better. Congrats on the launch team! I can’t wait to see how it progresses.
welphereitis,
Good app but needs work
Really need to open this up to more images and also the ability to record and extract images. don’t hold the data for yourself, let the images store to local so we can do extra processing if we want. Last thing, when editing the output, allow us to remove extra images that we don’t want or need. Other than the above, love the app and really holds true to the desktop version of reality capture
MattMadeMedia.com,
Unusable. Run.
It is mind-boggling how difficult they make it to log into this and any Epic Games resources for people trying to just create content on their phones and PCs. How can you possibly hope to use any of these tools proficiently if you can’t even login to use them consistently like every other platform we all use every day on the Internet? The fact that epic games has never taken any of this seriously and lets their users struggle in forums, trying to figure out the most basic authentication problems gives me no confidence whatsoever in this product.

Revolutionary Piece of Software!!!
This app works great and puts out amazing results once you get the hang of it. I tried Reality Scan with both an iPhone 11 and iPhone 14 pro max and the new phones definitely give a better and smoother experience but with enough patience you can still get great results no matter the device. My only issue is the 200 photo limit when trying to scan large objects, if there was a monthly premium with a higher photo limit I’d definitely get it.
Inspecting B,
Doesn’t accept remote release
It does work well for creating a model but seems to have a lot to be developed. Especially when you are taking photos in a long distance, you will face an issue because it doesn’t accept the remote release, usually “Volume up” signal is used through a Bluetooth connection. Hope this function will be added in the next version.
William Price,
Hoped for better, useful for those without lidar
I would just like the next update to incorporate autocapture so we don’t have to constantly tap the screen to take pictures.

Also it would be really nice to be able to export the scan as an STL file… and not only that, but do it right from your phone and not have this tomfoolery of a third party to save to…

Hoping for more useful and consistent updates
hottacosauce35,
Needs lot more work
Interface and method of capture is interesting/neat (has a ghost of where you took your shots and a live crop), but the final output is inadequate. Other photogrammetry apps put this to shame in its current state…and that’s taking less than half of the photos with the other app… I hope they are able to get outputs that do not require perfect lighting and subject as other apps have gotten around this issue. Hope it does well in the long term.
Aminwrx,
One of the best 3D scanning apps
I’ve been getting great results capturing environments like my living room and backyard, then porting it to sketchfab and viewing it in VR. It’s currently one of the best ways to capture memories in 3d. Thank you devs for building this wonderful app!
