This was going to be a minor update. You know, fix a few bugs, improve usability here and there. Those Setting toggles weren't so easy to see previously. And then I was going to wait until iOS was updated, so that you'd have support for that too.

But then I got to thinking, while we're all waiting, why not add a few more features. So I started working on one of the items that's been on the TODO list of customer recommendations for far too long.. Exam Mode. You can now do a multiple choice test through your entire level at any time.

And then I got to thinking, a few people have wanted some landscape orientation support, because there are those of you who swing that way, and that's cool, so we went ahead and did that one too.

And then I started learning Thai. I don't know Thai, but I was just putting the finishing touches on the Scribe Thai app, and realised I needed to use it to test everything. But Thai didn't make much sense to me, as I didn't have any background in it. What I needed was a super-mini grammar guide, to condense the basics of the language down into 30 or so phrases. And then I started thinking.. What if ALL apps had a super-mini grammar guide?? It was ingenious. So all the translators got going on perfecting that task, we set up recordings, and we went and added that.

And then I was thinking REALLY out of the box. What if we added a button to make the iPhone fly! Yup. Fly. Mini iPhone jet packs. So we got working on that, and got a demo going, and managed to get our iPhone to fly across the English Channel! It was awesome. But then we realised there were flight restrictions. iPhones aren't allowed to fly unmanned. FAA rules. So we had to remove that feature. Sorry about that.

But we do love our customers, so if you want this feature added back in, mail us! [email protected] .. yup, just right there. We'll always receive your email. And we'll always reply. So if it doesn't seem like we replied, check the email's spam folder. Spam folders get hungry and eat our messages.

Oh, and one final thought. These Scribe apps aren't very well known yet. If you've seen our facebook + twitter groups, you've probably noticed they're pretty small. What we'd like to do is to boost that up, to help people find out about the Scribe series and get a nice community of learners together. So please check that out. Especially if you want the iPhone to take flight again.

Peace and love,
Henry.

girlcritic,
One of the best apps I've found for Korean
So most apps either have poor interfaces or incorrect/not thorough vocabulary. This app has a simple interface but it gets the task done (you can turn off Anime girl). It also has audio for all of the basic words. Best part is the learning feature which means you never have to worry about what words to go back and study for. It has an algorithm that shows you words you are forgetting. 1 time upgrade fee. Seriously, other language apps, take notes from these guys. They know what they are doing.
실망하다,
Nice Features, Free Intro App Annoying
I would like to have gone far enough into the list to experience the app at my level (which I didn't think was very high until this), but I grew way too tired of 99% borrowed words in the intro lesson. While I believe it's good to know borrowed words, there definitely could've (and should've) been at least a slightly more balanced mix of borrowed and native words. 안녕하다 seemed to be literally the only non-borrowed word, and if I wanted to experience the app with more words like that, I was told to pay the $8.99 fee to upgrade.

Maybe it's much better for very beginner Korean learners. The listening was nice and I appreciated the Diary/Learning/Due pages. If the intro were a bit better vocab-wise, I might be willing to pay the extra money. Might.
Lingual Fad,
Great App for Building Vocabulary
I use this app almost every day. I like the various ways you can learn the words, from flash cards to matching with definitions. It is clear that the memory tools are intentional. You can also tailor the options to fit your personal learning style and speed. I am almost done with the beginner stage and cannot wait to see how I progress in the future. I highly recommend this app to other serious Korean learners. 검사입니다, developers!
Mms den de,
What a great tool
I attend Korean class on the weekend with my daughter. A class is great for grammar, but making time to study is hard and I was reaching a point where limited vocabulary was the major hang up. This app is perfect for refreshing and learning new vocabulary.
Ays17,
Just got the hang of it
This app is an excellent way to control your learning because you can use the settings to turn on and off words. So if you turn off all the words and just turn on 4 words at a time and keep repeating it, you will build long-term memory. I just wish there was an 'All Off' switch.
Please work on a more beautiful interface (like 'SplitMasters')

Scruggalugs,
Very fun app!
I'm having a fun time with this app. It's very adaptable to a new learner of Korean. It engages different ways to learn a new language. I'm really liking it so far!
Add me jda2,
Useful listening flash card app
I paid for the app and found that I often come back to it to work on my vocabulary skills. I only wish that there was an option to exclude the romanization. As an English speaker my eyes naturally lock in on the romanized version of the word. This makes it difficult to focus on the Hangul.

Edit: June 2020
I have to be honest here. I recently became serious about my language study and found that this app is a solid home base. I use this app to replace a flash card system and access it EVERY day. You are able to look through the list of vocabulary words and add a new word to rotation by selecting “learn”. This is helpful when you already know a word but want to keep a current, active list of how many words that you will be using. This is super helpful to me because I study Korean using a combination of different media and apps.

I like that the app shows the number of words that you have learned and has different levels. In my experience the levels are appropriately assigned. The color levels assigned to the words that you know or don’t know also help with review.

The ability to use of the different methods of review helps to learn the words without using the romanization. When I switched to the mode where I hear the word only, my understanding of the language improved immensely. All in all I am more than satisfied with this app. I’m glad that I paid the fee to upgrade. ALSO, THERE IS ONLY A ONE TIME FEE!!!

I will be keeping this app as long as I am language learning.

Borrowed Words Note: the lowest level has many borrowed words. But this is NOT the case for the higher levels. I think the developers wanted to start new korean language learners off slowly.
Missarlajean,
Truly Helpful App
As a beginner I've tried dozens of other Korean language apps, and for vocabulary this one takes the cake. It smartly adapts to my performance on specific words and offers a variety of activities--though I find the flashcards most helpful. Some words come with pre-typed mnemonic sentences, but you can change them and invent your own for the other words. The $10 upgrade was totally worth it. I'm adding 10-15 new words a day and keeping the old. :) If they came out with a grammar learning app, I'd be all over that as well. Final Note: This app is simple, full-featured, and well-organized, but if you're looking for a lot of animation and visuals (other than the great little coach!), another app might suit your taste better.
XLunacyFringe,
Love it!
This app is making me really confident that I'll be able to speak Korean one day. At first I wasn't sure what to do with the app (I wasn't sure where to start), but you really just have to jump in. The memorization techniques are really helping. I had already previously taught myself to read Hangul (Korean alphabet), so I don't struggle with reading it.. But it might be beneficial for them to add a feature for Hangul in here for those who don't already know it. Either way, I'm excited that the words are already sticking in my mind! Be sure to read the instructions on how to use the app and play every day and you'll be learning in no time :)
Infernal Duck of Epicosity,
Great, polished, and diverse app.
I've been using this app for a few weeks now and it has helped me a lot. It has the spaced repetition flash cards, but if you get bored of that, there are other game modes such as matching or multiple choice. I've the "assistant" character changes clothes each day, which I found cool.

The only downside is that the full version is rather expensive, but I think the content, polish, and overall quality of the map make that money worthwhile if you're serious about learning the language.
