With sEGments slicer/sampler app you can Import any loop/sample/audio file and find the best samples inside it, using the automatic transient detection or manually adding markers.
You can play the slices with any MIDI external controller or with the builtin pads and keyboard layout; also each slice can be played chromatically as in a real synth with mono or polyphonic voices (up to 12).
Each slice has independent parameters (all automatable in any AU host), such as reverse, level, attack, release, start point and length and individual fxs (reverb, delay, bitcrusher and filter) that can be changed on the fly thanks to its flexible audio engine.
sEGments automatically detect BPM and root key of your audio file and it can adjust its tempo and pitch according to your project settings.
It can be used both in standalone or hosted as AudioUnit AU3 inside apps like GarageBand, AUM, BeatMaker3, NanoStudio2, n-Track9 and others, and it supports AU Multi-output.

Absolutely amazing
This app is a game changer for GarageBand. It’s flawless. I’m a longtime iPad GarageBand super user and know every minute detail of the application. I own virtually every plugin available, and have been using the Chomplr sampler AUV3 add-on for ages. But this app puts it to shame. It’s so flexible and SO stable. Instability is a problem that plagues many AUV3 extensions for Garageband on iOS. This one feels like it’s native to Garageband it’s so stable and responsive. I mean seriously this is exactly what a sampler should be. The Logic Pro sampler is similar, but this one is more intuitive and fun to use. The sampler is also flawless when duplicated several times over using the same wav sliced differently in each instance. Seriously the best add-on that exists for GarageBand. I’d have paid triple for this if I knew it was this good from the start.

5 Star rating BUT….
I gave this app five stars but there are two flaws that are so critical they are the reason why I am not a famous producer right now…When you’re recording audio directly through the record feature if your phone or tablet is set to sleep after some amount of time the app doesn’t stop it from sleeping and you lose your recording. this is sort of a dealbreaker and unforgivable please fix it. The next related issue is that you cannot record once you have started a project you can only record from the initialization screen. Why? Please enable recording at any point.

I have some feature requests.
- please enable sync recording just as in aum so perfect loops can be recorded directly into segments and then evenly chopped.
- please enable a zoom view.
- extra please!!! Can you add lock (sync) time of a slice so its rhythm stays the same and the pitch can change via keyboard or slider. This was actually the primary reason i wanted segments. I want to be able to record parts and then transpose them while maintaining timing. It seems like it almost does this now but not quite.
- make default volume say cc100 and be able to turn a slice up to max say cc127 with clean volume, vs dirty gain (which is a great feature btw)
- in stand alone on iphone xr/11 fx mix of delay and crush are in accessible due to ios app switch bar :/

I have some feature requests.
- please enable sync recording just as in aum so perfect loops can be recorded directly into segments and then evenly chopped.
- please enable a zoom view.
- extra please!!! Can you add lock (sync) time of a slice so its rhythm stays the same and the pitch can change via keyboard or slider. This was actually the primary reason i wanted segments. I want to be able to record parts and then transpose them while maintaining timing. It seems like it almost does this now but not quite.
- make default volume say cc100 and be able to turn a slice up to max say cc127 with clean volume, vs dirty gain (which is a great feature btw)
- in stand alone on iphone xr/11 fx mix of delay and crush are in accessible due to ios app switch bar :/

Would really like to be able to hold a slice down and have it play continuously while playing another slice like Abu Dhabi in Korg Gadget. I’m not a huge fan of Gadget, but going back and playing
with it recently made me realize how well thought out that sampler is and its superb effect options. With sEGments you’re not stuck in a walled garden though and that is huge.
I think the best elements from BM3’s sampler, Abu Dhabi and Ableton’s simpler would be amazing, but also a huge undertaking that might be out of scope of this app. Still a must have app and this developer surprised me with his speed implementing stuff in his other app. 👌

Yes! Finally!
We’ve been waiting a long time for this one. So easy to use. I’d say this is one of my top 5 app purchase this year and definitely the best for slicing. The shot slice mode in itself is worth the price of admission. I would love to see the ability to replace individual slices with other samples, but I do realize that could be a different genre of a music app all together. Thank you Elliot Garage for such amazing work!

Great but needs a few added features
When I hit stop in cubasis or bm3 I would like to it stop segments having to open auv3 every time I want to stop the playback is a annoying.
Grabbing pitch is annoying, I can’t stand how bad the pitch bar is... I need better control. I would prefer a “knob” for semitones and octaves.
Could clear just delete the selected slice ?

Really cool app
As a music maker who really likes getting samples and slicing it for sequencing, I really love this app. It has now given me the chance to get a sample, slice and play with it on my IPad and come up with ideas. The pad trigger slice function while the sample is playing is also cool. I am sure that subsequent updates will make it better. This app is a winner for my workflow.

Flexible Sampler
It’s great to be able to drag and drop samples from the files app directly into sEGments. Having velocity sensitivity, two time stretch algorithms, and effects with xy pads that you can automate with touch are nice features. The ability to route the audio output from different slices into other effects apps in hosts like AUM that support this functionality is really fantastic.
I’ve taken advantage of the Auditor app to create slice markers which are recognized by sEGments.
Being able to adjust the attack and release per slice allows you to quickly shape your sounds.
I’ll be using this app a lot as it’s very versatile and easy to work with.

I have a few of these types of apps like this and this one is pretty easy to use with a lot of effects. I have a few of EG’s apps and this one is the best in my opinion. Have not had any bugs yet for it being the first version.
If you are going to get any of EG’s apps- this is the one that shines and is the easiest to use in my opinion. Fun!

Lovely, accessible slicing and fantastic integration with EG pulse. This app motivated me to move my entire old vinyl and cd collection to iCloud and I’m having a blast revisiting my old music collection, slicing a track to pads and seeing what pops up as I adjust the threshold on autodetect. Absolutely perfect for anyone who doesn’t want to work because they want to bang on the drum all day.
