Do you only track calories?

No! We include all macronutrients and over 200 micronutrients. SnapCalorie’s AI nutritionist can help you accomplish a diverse set of dietary goals.

How do I know it’s accurate?

For the chat feature our AI nutritionist pulls from millions of sources to get you the most widely accepted answers possible. If you have any questions on the accuracy of the data, our app allows you to submit the question to a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist for verification.

For the photo calorie counter our team has published in a top peer reviewed academic conference where we demonstrated our approach is over twice the accuracy of a professional nutritionist. Read more in the link to our paper at the bottom [Nutrition5k].

How does it work?

Take a photo of your food and it’s saved in seconds. After a delay our team will verify the estimates and release the results to your daily total.

Our photo calorie counter tries to identify the contents of the food visually, like a nutritionist would. We send these predictions to an actual person for verification to ensure the most accurate estimate of calories, fat, carbs, and protein. Portion sizes are measured using modern depth sensors on your phone, making our results even more accurate than a person alone could do.

What about oils?

Oils are challenging for anyone calorie counting, and our photo calorie counter will not be perfect at this either. That said, in our academic paper we showed people are off by over 50% from portion size estimation alone. To get the most accurate results, one should focus more on accurate portion sizes than on getting the exact ingredients right.

What if I use a scale to measure portion size?

Our photo calorie counter will not be more accurate, but it will take a fraction of the time to input. You can also use the photo calorie counter to suggest ingredients, and you can correct the portion sizes later with a scale measurement. To streamline the photo calorie counting further, use the “favorites” feature in the app to easily track your frequent foods and beverages.

Who is this NOT for?

This app is NOT for anyone with an active eating disorder, an eating disorder history, or an eating disorder family history. This app is also NOT for anyone with body dysmorphia or any predispositions to body dysmorphia and/or body dysmorphic disorders.

If you are struggling with any of these disorders, we encourage you to reach out to The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA).

What else are we doing to help?

We know calorie tracking is an incredibly sensitive and risky area. We care deeply about our users’ mental and emotional health. We work with Registered Dietitians to ensure that we aren’t contributing to the existing problem. We have strategically de-emphasized calories over macros to promote awareness of nourishing one’s body.

Do you integrate with HealthKit?

Yes! SnapCalorie allows you to push the nutritional information from meals logged into Apple HealthKit.

Brndnzlda,
Great app! Are widgets coming?
Love this app. I don’t have the time or willpower to manually log my calories. This app gives me a quick and easy way to both have a calorie estimate for the day and a photo journal of what I have eaten. Makes me more aware of how much I am eating and make healthier choices.

Two features I would like to see are widgets and dark mode. Thank you for a great app!
Nance Q,
Easiest tracking app ever!
I’ve used many a meal tracking app before… paid and free. This is by far the easiest, most intuitive app I’ve tried. Makes logging super easy! I also really appreciated how inclusive the calorie & macros tracking survey was and love the at-a-glance nutrition label format of viewing entries.
kchryssafis,
So convenient!
This app is amazing! I love all of the unique features and how I can track my food simply by snapping a photo. Elizabeth Gunner also offers 1:1 counseling on the app and she’s the best - highly recommend her. Can’t wait to continue seeing results!
Talkeye,
Promising but not accurate enough
The concept of this app is great but the execution is just not there. The app often can not distinguish between food. It identified shredded cheese on a plate as hash browns. The subscription cost does not justify the current capabilities. However once the tech matures much more than it’s current state it could revolutionize tracking. Just not there yet. Feels like a beta

👏
Heard about this through a podcast, checked it out in the App Store, and was convinced to download it soley by the app replies from your team. It’s so cool to see companies that genuinely listen to customers and enhance based on their feedback 👏 pumped to try this
noobsip,
My Honest Review
Out of all the calorie apps I have used , this one is by far the best . Not too complicated , and easy to use with an amazing UI.
GreenPrell,
Expensive, not what I expected
I took a photo of a waffle with Nutella on it. First, it asked me to describe the food in the photo, which completely defeats the purpose. Then, it didn’t add the food to my log; it said a human being had to look at it to figure out the calories. Again, this defeats the purpose, and explains why this app costs _$30 per month_, which is outrageous.
cecimr,
Works so well!
Can’t live without it now. Love how many micronutrients it covers and the photo meal logging feature is magical!
MattE7382,
Smooth UX, Just Works
I've tested the app on pretty tricky edge cases, and due to its combination of human annotation with computer vision it handles them very well

The UX is very simple and elegant, just take a picture and you ge calories + macros nicely tracked
AngieGunz,
Best Food Tracking App!
Love SnapCalorie! Very easy to use and I love being able to track my calorie intake accurately in a quick snap!
