Best free macro nutrition tracker atm
You will soon see all free apps of sort (no matter id they say its free, or even 3.99 app), it will always have a monthy (fully unlocked) subscription. This doesn’t, but it does have a small learning curve. These minor annoyances aren’t deal breakers, once you realize the competitiveness of this category, in the app market. The only real annoyance depends on how lazy you are. It’s mostly existing database of foods. But you can create your personal list of food items to use. As a some who trains constantly, we mostly focus on clean foods, and their macros. This means we don’t deviate far from having too many varieties of food. Only good priced, consistent and convenient foods. Not a different meal every day. So the annoyance of database isnt as bad as you think. The percentage works perfectly, if you dont get it, you should at least spend 5 minutes thinking about your high math class. Instead give it a chance and do your training- thats why you have this. In the reviews there arent much negative comments and you can actually see the improvements via feedback from users. Remember this is a tool. Not your savoir. Do the work, focus on the training and track with this. If you start looking for a perfect free app (doesn’t exist without a monthly subscription), you will just be procrastinating with your training.
#truejoy,
Great app! A few updates to make it 6 stars!
Love the app! It has really become an integral part of my daily routine. I like that it’s so quick and easy to snap a photo and quickly enter foods that you’re eating or to add your own foods. It really helps when trying to make sure you’re eating a healthy diet and that you’re fitting in all of the necessary nutrients in a busy day to day life.

Could you update to include the capacity to track more types of nutrients in foods? For example, omega-3 fatty acids, micronutrients like selenium and also water intake would be helpful. Additionally, I would love it if there was a feature specifically for nutritional supplements allowing you to also factor in your nutrient intake from that as well. Finally, a feature allowing you to include your own personalized recipes with ingredients you choose would be really handy and convenient. I cook a lot of my own meals at home and sometimes it’s a little tedious to include every ingredient when adding a meal. Overall, a great app and I really like it— best food tracker I’ve used yet! With these updates.... I’d give it 6 stars!
vmguffey,
Way more convenient than FitnessPal
Before I found this app, I used FitnessPal. While it was more accurate than this, which is more like an estimated amount of calories (if you don’t use the barcode feature), it’s a lot more annoying in that you have to look up the food, manually input all the info, etc. I liked it for a while, but it got really tedious, especially when I’d eat out and there were no barcodes or anything to scan.

While calorie estimate feature of Bitesnap isn’t as accurate, you do get the option to scan a barcode for a more accurate reading, like FitnessPal. If you don’t have that option, you can either input the information manually, or simply snap a picture. This app is a LOT more helpful when it comes to eating out or recipes without a calorie count available on it. I would definitely recommend!

The only complaint I’d have is when you manually input the data of food, you don’t get the option to delete it once it’s submitted. I accidentally put in the wrong info, but I couldn’t go back and delete that recipe. I wish it’d give us the option to delete.

Best Meal Tracker
I LOVE that I can snap a photo of my meal / drink, choose the included ingredients (if I want to), and then later on, have that quick visual to reference—the ingredients I chose are unobtrusively listed over the bottom section of the photo. And I also love how it lists out the calories and macros of your meal. You can also add several pics to one entry, which is great in case you don’t want to try to fit all items into one photo, you forget to include something or you want to lump a bunch of items into one entry.

I’ve tried other apps that are photo-based only, and while they are helpful visually, that’s as far as their helpfulness goes. This app uses both a photo journal method AND calorie and macro tracking. As someone who watches my macro intake, I find this monumentally helpful. This is hands-down my favorite meal tracking app.

Side note: I would love it with there were camera filter options. Would just add a little something fun to the app. Thank you to the developers for such a great app!! 😃
JakeylovesCakey,
Best food diary app by a mile
I’ve only used this app for a day but there are so many things I like about this app, it’s crazy. Before I discovered picture diary apps, I used MyFitnessPal. Scanning barcodes, measuring serving sizes and counting calories became so tedious that I stopped using the app altogether. Then I tried Ate, but it is strictly a picture diary and it didn’t give me information I needed. I like Bitesnap because you can take a picture of your meal and it tries it’s best to identify all the foods in the picture and it even gives you a pretty close calorie estimate. You do have the option to manually enter calories or scan a barcode if that’s important to you. The only reason I gave this app 4 stars is because I haven’t actually tried the barcode feature yet so I haven’t run into any of the problems other reviews mentioned. I love all the customization features of this app and I like how it calculates your BMI, BMR and TDEE for you. The only thing that would make this app better is if they made a widget so I can add foods and see my calorie intake without physically having to open the app every time. Please, please, make a widget.
Chriscddo,
Easy food tracker
I wanted to give this app a 4.5 but that’s not an option. I love the ease of snapping a picture of my food and it suggesting what it might be. Livongo used to allow me to take a picture of my food and later go back and write about it. Recently, they changed their app and you now have to search for the food. Because my foods are homemade and a lot are middle eastern, then it makes it hard to document due to not being able to take a picture until the written food is found. This app makes it way easier because you just take a picture and choose from a list of foods that the app thinks the photo is. If your food isn’t there, you can write it in. My only problem with the app is when I forget to take a picture until the food is gone. I wish there was a way to write the food down for the day so it is counted. If the company adds that feature I hope it doesn’t mess up being able to take the photo first if you want to do it that way. Thank you Bitesnap for making an easy food tracker!
Not operating at all,
The. Best. Food. Tracker. App! Period!
I don't typically write review for apps...like ever. But, this app really has began to change my life + make me more aware of my eating habits. I have struggled with binge eating for 3+ years now. The anxiety of having to use MyFitnessPal or LoseIt! was starting to get to me. I needed something more practical, something I could use to track but also have FUN with. Then, I found this app. So easy. You take a photo of your meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snack) and it "automatically" recognizes your food! Granted, the technology in estimating calories off of a photo is fairly new so its not 100% accurate but its dang near close! If I took a picture of a pizza, of course its not going to know if my pizza is Dominos or Papa Johns, but they make it super easy to "add" food items into your database to recognize and use later. This app has allowed me to "visually" see how much I'm consuming daily and I've fallen in love with it. Thank you developers and creators. ❤️
luckyteacup,
Love this app! It would be my go-to food journal if there were a day recap!
My dietician requested that I keep a food journal. I’ve used the big name apps in the past, but they are too detailed for my needs. I attempted old fashioned pen and paper or a note on my phone, but was not consistent in logging my meals. Lightbulb moment, what if I could take photos of my food?

Bitesnap easy to use and although the food database isn’t extensive for scanning items, adding the nutritional info isn’t too cumbersome. I especially appreciate that it’s generally listed in order of the label, so I don’t have to jump around to enter the info. And once most of my go-to foods are there, it’s a simple search to add them to the photo entry.

Ideally, my perfect app would include a a way to recap the days photos and see them on one screen (e.g., Ate and See How You Eat apps). I’d use this app alone over the other two with a recap feature. Thanks!
Lic.Tani,
Perfect for this busy working mom
All the other reviews mentioned everything I love about this app except one thing. I love how I can quickly snap the picture and then put my phone away and add all the details later. With other apps I've used you have to spend some time listing what you ate later (and you forget) or spend time before you eat listing everything. With this app I don't have that problem. This is great when eating out (or in) with company or on a date with my husband or at home with my family. I don't have to sit there rudely focused on my phone for 5 minutes of the precious time I have with family or friends. Later when I have a private moment I can add any details I want and check the nutritional info. At first maybe you want to be checking those thing before you eat but Soon you get to know by sight how many calories a plate of food is and this helps you make decisions more intuitively in the future.
Jendayi781,
What Happened?
I love this app! It’s exactly what I was searching for. I can snap a pic of my food or capture a barcode and everything is automatically added. It even “learns” based on my previous habits! The only thing I miss is that when I take a pic with the device camera (not thru the app) and then import the photo into Bitesnap, it no longer pulls in the date/time info from the pic when it adds it to my journal. It now defaults to the current date/time so I have to go back and change it most of the time. I wish you’d bring the previous way back where it pulled the time/date directly from the pic.

Also, I sometimes carry my iPad with me instead of my iPhone (depending on the situation since I can receive calls on both). I wish I could back my data up to iCloud or Google or Dropbox or something so I could keep both devices in sync.

And finally, since you already integrate with Apple Health Kit, it would be so convenient if you had a water intake tracker in the app so I wouldn’t have to have a separate app to record this (especially since I sometimes sip water, coffee, or tea during my meals and have a tendency to snap that in the pic right along with the food).

I tried all the picture snapping food apps out there and they just don’t meet my needs like this one does. Thank you so much for a great app!
