Gregrt1,
Very Good
I really like this series. Spanish 101 let's you build a decent size set of useful vocabulary. I'm glad it focuses on common and practical terms rather than cluttering it with words you would seldom use.

The method of learning is fantastic. It's designed to keep you from getting bored by providing a set of different learning tools.
The multiple choice quiz tends to be the easy one and I always start with that. The puzzle game is the most fun and really
does a good job of locking words into your memory. The write in is the hardest but the one that verifies that you learned it.

The priority feature is a smart idea. You can filter out words and phrases that you have already learned, so they don't show up in the quizes. By adjusting the priority threshold you can either focus on the difficult parts or review the entire set.

The inclusion of audio pronunciation by a native speaker is so important. I think it's much better than synthesized speech. This is one of the best foreign language applications I've ever used.
SidCid,
Great for testing on the go!
I’ve so far purchased Spanish 1, Spanish 4, Spanish 5, and Spanish Food and Dining. These apps are great for increasing vocabulary in spare moments of the day and seem to be bug free. The different types of quizzes are a really nice option for learning words from a ‘different angle’. The priority threshold works very well. These are the only apps I’ve found so far that keep a decent track record (Priority Threshold) of the words I’m having trouble remembering and keeping them in my face during quizzes.
In the upper level app (level 4), the question quizzes are very helpful for testing your knowledge of question structure.

Last points—
*there’s great audio to hear the correct pronunciation (may be a bit too quiet for some)

*the layout of the quizzes allows you to avoid looking at the word/sentence & clicking on the audio to test your auditory knowledge of words instead of the visual.

Great learning tools! I plan on purchasing all of these apps.
samlagBest,
Nice apps
I've been using both this vocab app and also the phrases app and I'm amazed at how quickly I'm learning. The variety of study methods is very helpful. It let's you work up from the easy tests to the more difficult types of quizzes. This interactive approach to learning suits me perfectly. The ability to track your progress with the catgeory scores is also very helpful. The audio is good and sounds very authentic.

I definitely can recommend this app. It really works for me.
gasman51,
As it stands, NOT worth the money
I bought this program for $5.99 thinking it would be useful. NOT.
1. It has a total of approximately 180 vocab words that are extremely basic. If you have finished even the first half a semester of Spanish, this program will be basically worthless.
2. Assuming I didn't know all the vocab, it doesn't seem to remember which items you have missed before, making it much less useful as a learning tool.
3. Unlike other reviewers of other Spanish learning aids, I don't see the need for audio in Spanish. Spanish, unlike English, is pronounced EXACTLY the way it is written. After a few weeks of Spanish in a class or via a program like Pimsleur, you would not need it. However, having said that, the audio in this program could not be heard in a room with ANY background noise with the iPhone volume all the way up.
4, After about 10 minutes of using this program, my iPhone experienced a hard crash.
Free would be too much money for this program as it stands. I will be happy to re-review this program if any updates address these issues.

Great for learning and increasing vocabulary
For what it does, this app does it VERY well. But it does not teach even basic Spanish phrases or grammar. This app is strictly for helping you to increase your vocabulary. You will be learning individual words and that is it. Having said that, this app
is a great supplement to a Spanish course, but won't get you very far on it's own. I count roughly 150 words in this level 1 app (in five catagories). Had there been more words, I would have given it five stars because 150 words is pretty limiting even
for a $4 app. I really like that this app has five different ways of quizing you and allowing you to review the words. Every word is spoken and you can repeat the pronounciation as many times as necessary. This is really a terrific way to learn!
Begginer,
Excellent for me overcoming my Spanish struggles
Excellent vocabulary app. I'm a slow learner, but it is helping me along. I like the format with the word study section, the multiple guess quiz, spelling, and retention. It is effectively designed to build up your familiarity and master of the words. The female voice pronunciation is slower and more pronounced, the male voice pronunciation is quicker giving you the advantage to learn from a slow clear voice and adapt to a faster conversational speed voice as well.

I'm also a visual person as well. When they add pictures with the words they will have my five stars. For the price of a movie ticket, this is a much better tool than my failed attempts to learn Spanish in the past.
Karen LH,
Nice interface for learning, too few words
I really like the interface that this app uses for learning vocabulary. However, the number of words is way, way too small. I'm not sure I'm willing to pay $5 a pop in hopes of eventually getting a vocabulary list that has more than a few words that I don't already know. I would keep the interface, but lose the Spanish 1, Spanish 2, Spanish 3, etc approach. Stuff all of the vocabulary words into one app, and add additional vocabulary in future (free) updates.
Crestor Explorer,
Pretty Good
I've only been using it for about a day but so far it's really helpful. It's more like a language lab than a tutor. There's a bunch of different quiz and game drills that test your knowledge. You can kind of cheat by listening to the audio before you answer in the puzzle and write-in drills but this is actually useful and necessary when you're first starting to learn. The priority threshold feature is nice because you can avoid repeating stuff you already know.
Aaron in NYC,
Awesome for beginners!
The best thing about this app is that the interface is easy, tracks your progress, and the different types of quizzes really work! I start with the category list, then the flashcards, then multiple choice, hangman type game, and finally write in. The process is working and I'm learning amazingly fast. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because it is definitely for Spanish beginners and not for intermediate students.
Bccanfield,
Way over priced for the amount of content
For $8 + tax you can buy an entire book on Spanish. I was expecting maybe half of that in convenient portable package to use while in Mexico and not connected to 3G. This contains nothing more than what can be found in a small pocket size guide (the size of an iPhone) and it is not any easier to search than such a guide. I wish I had checked the quality of the vocab app before purchasing the phrase app as well. I have never written a review before, so the fact that I am should indicate how strongly I feel. Buy a pocket sized guide instead.
