Very clearly made by people who speak many languages.
I think this app has some unnecessary criticism left over from when it was just very early in development. This app is EXTREMELY well rounded as far as learning goes.
I was so happy when I first started using this app, because I could immediately tell that it was made by polyglots. It’s the most complete package out there. (Minus native speaker interaction.) It’s only fundamental flaw is being very harsh to correct on the fill-in-the-blank questions; however, real writing and conversation is harsh too, so I see why it has value, but it’s frustrating.
This app is designed in a very well organized way, although it does have a small learning curve.
I have not used the free version yet, but I plan to once my trial runs out. Then I’ll edit this to a very comprehensive review.
Also, the support team seems to be very responsive and I will give them an email of my first impression and what relatively simple features could be improved to make the experience much more fluid. It’s already good, but it could be great.

Speakly after two weeks.
So far I’ve used the app for just a little over two weeks. It’s fun and easy to navigate. I like the live situations and choice of words and phrases. They’ve been starting to stick and the listening exercises are also nice with the option to translate it to your native tongue or target language as well as the live situations. I didn’t give it a 5 star because it’s crashed on me twice and my progress for the particular lesson was lost. It’s not a deal breaker but when I’m at work on a short break and trying to squeeze a quick lesson in its slightly frustrating. It’s not so bad when I’m on my leisure time I just start over something I normally do anyways after a lesson to repeat the lesson. And last but not least. The audio on certain words is clunky and not always spot on or mashed together so I have to go to google translate type the (German) word or phrase I’m studying and get a second opinion from google. It’s not the most convenient thing when you have to stop open up another app to hear the word/phrase slowed down or pronounced correctly. I hope the Speakly team is able address these issues in the near future. Overall I really like the app so far and and combine it with other free green bird apps, podcast and good ole text books when I want to unplug. I hope this review was helpful, take care all. 🌍 ✌️🧠

Best app
I’ve tried several language learning apps and this is, in my opinion, the best. I am able to retain more and speak actual sentences. There are so many great things about it. My search for the perfect language app is over. Check it out; you won’t regret it it.
I do hope they are working on an easier way to get language and grammar questions answered. After a few back and forth messages my questions were answered in great detail but I had to go through the customer service rep who relayed Q&A between the language pros and myself.
I’d also like to see a list of words that I’ve learned or are currently working on that I can refer to.

The app works now and is quite good
Update 3 If you are looking to buy it for the first time or returning after giving up because the app was unusable, it is now stable. I have to give it some time before I can assess how much I learn using it, but so far, I find it engaging and feel like it is a really good balance of different skills. I’ll give it four stars for now, but if stability and pedagogic approach stay strong, will increase the rating later.

It’s a great app!
In my history of trying to learn Italian this is one of the more valuable apps I’ve seen before. It looks to be more focused on engaging with the language itself over memorizing all the grammar rules; which i really like having in addition to my other forms of immersion and study!
the only catch is it feels like the Italian course could use a teeny tiny polishing. Some of the English translation for Italian words seem off. For example: the very first word shown (buongiorno) is translated as (hello) which ok maybe they’re going for a thought for thought translation instead. But then the first listening exercise translates (italia (no article included)) as (the Italy) which, as a native English speaker, didn’t make sense to use for the translation.
With that said, the app is definitely worthwhile because I’d rather have 98% accuracy with good teaching methods over 100% accuracy with bad teaching.

Best App for Learning Despite Flaws
While this app can be slow, buggy, and crash once in awhile, it is still absolutely the best app to learn a language. The Spanish course is extremely high quality. As an advanced student going through it from the start you can tell the designers know the language well and how to best teach it. It is also the most holistic app available. It includes SRS clove flash card review AND speaking and listening activities. The audio is also significantly more natural than what you find on Duolingo. The creators of this app are better at teaching languages than designing an app (which is ultimately a GOOD thing). Also, they are incredibly responsive, provide excellent support, and are routinely working to make the app work better. It’s improved significantly over the last year.

There’s a lot to love about this app. The diversity in learning content is very engaging. The gamification elements are based on your understanding of the language. And the ability to review previous levels of content makes for an experience that consistently feels educational.
A few bugs exist in the app. Occasionally sentences get truncated on the multiple choice selection screen on an iPhone 13 mini. The tables button in the grammar pop up only works if you select the first tab, which was very confusing. That UI is also kind difficult to navigate. Also the app occasionally crashes.
Still I’m loving this app. Would highly recommend for anyone who is starting or continuing their language learning adventure.

Overall really good
The best part of this app is the listening exercises. I love how they pause between sentences to give you some time to process as a beginner. I would pay for this app for that piece alone. My biggest issue however is with the way they translate. Of course there are differences between literal translation and meaning however sometimes I think they cross the line and in the “what do you say” type exercises it can get really confusing. I’d say 50% of the time when I see the French version of what I’m trying to translate from English I knew how to say it but the English “translation” made it confusing for me to sort it out. Haven’t had this issue with other language apps so wanted to point that out as feedback.

I can understand that sometimes problems can be difficult to fix, but not being able to fix such serious issues within 2 months is inacceptable. On top of that, they keep sending me ads for a lifetime membership for $99. i.e. they are still trying to sell a product for a lot of money (even if that‘s 75% off), although they know it‘s currently completely unusable. It‘s a shame as I like the app per se.
ETA: The problems seem to be fixed now, everything works great. Got additional months added to my up till now useless subscription. I can now wholeheartedly recommend this app again!

Tedious and slow progression
The multiple choice which make up most of the vocabulary are full sentences around the word you are learning and are the exact same phrases with only slightly different spelling or accents on letters. Even for intermediate speakers it can be a pain if your written spelling skill isn’t perfect. The spoken French is a computer that often makes incorrect inflections and the voice recorded lessons mark correct pronunciation (even by a native speaker testing it out) wrong. The concept seems great- integrating songs and stories with vocabulary, but you are restricted to those things until you do so many tedious vocabulary lessons. There are other apps out there where you can learn faster and easier with out having to navigate trick questions and guessing things as a beginner reader/ speller.
