STROBE TACHOMETER
When the flicker frequency of light coincides with the speed of any object, such as a fan, the rotating fan may appear to be stationary. Changing the frequency of the flicker of light may help detect the rotation speed.
You may easily use the flicker frequency control buttons to quickly assign the flicker frequency with an accuracy of 0.0001 Hz (0.01 RPM):
• Up to 1000 Hz (60 000 RPM) for a connected flashlight (see the video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/iq6Xiums05o).
• Up to 100 Hz (6000 RPM) for the iPhone flashlight.
IF THE SPEED IS MORE THAN UPPER LIMIT, YOU MAY STILL DETERMINE THE SPEED BY FIRST MAKING MEASUREMENTS WITH A LOWER FLICKER FREQUENCY AND THEN MAKING A SIMPLE CALCULATION (AS EXPLAINED IN THE APPENDIX).
To change the frequency, you should simply press and hold the button. In the app settings, you can adjust the speed at which the flash rate changes when you press and hold the button. The flicker frequency can be displayed either in Hz or RPM.
The image you see will be sharper in lower external light.
After a long period of usage, in case of overheating, the iPhone flashlight turns off automatically.

• Step 0.01-0.0001 Hz (1-0.01 RPM).
• Update time 1 sec.

MAGNETIC TACHOMETER
This tachometer operates by measuring the magnetic field from a spinning magnet. The magnetic field is measured by the iPhone's magnetometer. The magnetic tachometer is best suited for measuring low rotation speeds (from 6 revolutions per minute). It can also be used for measuring medium rotation speeds (up to 2,700 RPM), but at such speeds there is a risk of spontaneous tearing away of the magnet and strong vibration due to center-of-gravity shift.
• Measurement range from 0.1 Hz (6 RPM) to 45 Hz (2,700 RPM).
• Step 0.2-2 %.
• Update time 2-5 sec.

Good app
Strobe Light Tachometer is a good app for control flashlight, camera and the others devices. It's so easy to use and helpful. The tutorial videos is very detail and clearly. I like this app. Thanks to the developers.

Amazing
I use the free version to measure the movement of the impact head on a massage gun. Which in hertz and rpm shows very accurately. It is very easy to work with this program. Put a contrasting mark on the mechanism that you need to measure (Rotating or reciprocating). Turn on the mechanism and turn on the light on your phone, and select the numbers by which the mark becomes stationary. Definitely five stars. Do not forget to turn off the light on your phone by pressing the button in the upper right corner.

Industrial strobes
I compared this application with our industrial strobes we use at work, very very close, we compare drum rpm with others controlled by VFD in a paper mill , in most every case this is exactly the same reading.

Great app
I have a 5 year old iPhone 6 and I have used this app many times. It’s easy to adjust the strobe speed and it’s accurate. This is a no nonsense app and it works.

Are these other reviews bots?
As expected, this fails for a quarter second when the iphone cannot supply a high enough current over a long enough period of time(around 3 seconds) to the flashlight. Also, ads pop up on this.

Good... But not for the purpose it's intended
It unfortunately does notwork well as a tachometer,however, i accidentally discovered that this thing can use the amber led at higher frequencies! So good enough for me

Restore Fails
Purchased and used in 2016. Now says “Update failed” when it insists on restoring. Delete/reinstall doesn’t help. Positive reviews are likely for new installs.
Don’t recommend unless you’re going to use one time immediately. May function then. Wasted $$
