In fixing the "Back" and the "Menu" buttons, so they don't get hit accidentally while you are selecting a cell from the top row, I had to redefine their "hit" areas and move them up a notch. As a result, you now need to press slightly above the center of these buttons to activate them.

JynxBJJ,
Great app
I’m visually impaired and Red/green colour-blind. This is the first sudoku app I’ve been able to use easily. I read the review that suggested having each number be a different color. Obviously, for those of us with color blindness this wouldn’t be very helpful, I could make the app on usable. Perhaps a setting where The user could choose to use the colorful set up as the default and allow those of us with impaired color vision to keep it at the black and white. I would find it helpful if as the person who suggested the colorful numbers did that the number I have chosen in either the grid it’s self or the number pad at the bottom could be bolded. That way I could easily scan for the numbers that I need. However, the way you have it now works exactly like it does in the paper so it’s not a necessity. I do like how you haveThe scoring set up. Being able to distinguish between my on edited and aided scores lets me really enjoy trying to beat myself. Thanks again for such a great app! PS: please excuse any typos as iPad doesn’t let me see my review in large enough print for me to proofread it.
talynir,
Best soduku app ever
This app has the best interface and setting options. It lets you choose whether you’re picking the box first or the number and it doesn’t make you press and hold to keep keep working with the same number. It doesn’t deliver intrusive ads or kick you out if you make a mistake in the course of solving. It highlights all the squares with a number when you’re working it, entered values and penciled values alike. I only do the extreme level. other apps may seem like their harder puzzles are more difficult by comparison but it seems like most of their harder puzzles hit a point where the only way to solve is to assume one of two values and iterate it through to see if it’s a bust down the line, then go back and either lock it all in or iterate through based on the alternate value. when you’re content that you can solve any soduku puzzle and you start playing for speed instead, it’s nice to have an app that serves up a majority of puzzles that can be completed by logic not iteration.
C.Ichiban,
More than one way to solve a board
After my previous favorite Tap Sudoku stopped getting updates, I tried a half dozen apps before finally finding this one, where I could enter the number first then the cell. This speeds up your ability to play and is really a must, but most apps don’t offer it. After one game, I was pleasantly surprised at how the game also keeps your top 10 times. Neat! However, after playing 5-6 times (on “extreme” naturally bc I’m an addict), I came to a point when I realized there were no certain moves left. Thinking I may have missed a hint, and being nervous about the ticking clock, I guessed and it worked. But this continued to happen and I realized these are not true sudoku boards. A TRUE SUDOKU BOARD HAS ONLY ONE WAY TO SOLVE THE PUZZLE. The boards in this app offer several. This is problematic bc you are required to make 50/50 guesses (which often both work) in order to complete the puzzle. There’s no logic as to which 50/50 cells have one or two possibilities. Therefore, there is a new component of luck introduced, and that’s just not sudoku. I love the other features and gameplay functions but I’m not sure I can support this unfortunate flaw in the game itself.
hope to see changes,
My favorite sudoku app...
So simple to use. Good levels of difficulty that are actually good representations of the difficulty names. Gives you the option to do cell by cell input or select a number and the the cells you want to put that number into. Some other apps have a similar option but are confusing to use and understand which mode you’re in. If I were to make any improvements, not that they are absolutely necessary, here they are...

1. Make the highlighted number in the “deck” below the puzzle more obvious, like a color change, or better still, reverse the background/foreground color e.g. the number would turn white over a black background, in case someone is colorblind. Sometimes the bolder number is a bit subtle.

2. Just a luxury item, but it would be nice to choose from different palettes, but definitely not a deal killer.

3. When you finish the puzzle, stay on the finished screen so if you want to take a better look at the finished screen (maybe your finished timing is in a corner, etc.,... before taking you to all your past timings. Could be an “ok” button to leave the screen with an option to view all your timings. Just a thought.

4. Should be smart enough to not let you put a hint number into a square area, if that number is in an already finalized filled-in cell.

Otherwise, it’s perfect!
eric@durhamnc,
Good interface, good puzzle selection
The interface is simple, but just right. Features: undo, notes. Good: Will tell you if an entry is inconsistent with previous entries, but doesn’t tell you if the entry is wrong. (This is good because it prevents solving by simple guessing instead of logic.) I don’t know yet how much can be undone, so I don’t know whether backtracking is acceptable here. So far, the puzzles all had a a completely direct solution (i.e. no backtracking (aka reductio ad absurdum).) I haven’t seen any popup ads, apart from a single review request, and that only after I’d played several games in three of the four levels. The “easy” games are easy, but not trivial. The “medium” and “hard” games are (in my opinion) really moderately easy and moderate. Game ratings are somewhat subjective so your mileage might vary. I haven’t tried the “extreme” category yet. All in all I am very pleased so far.
StephenJSpace,
Colour coded numbers and auto signals
This is my personal favourite version of sudoku. One thing the bothers me about this game is the amount of time to ‘set up’ if you will and the auto fill option really helps me maintain my sanity.

That being said I think that colour coded numbers would be nice. Right now when you select a number that has already been filed in all other potential possibilities that have been notated are blue, this is nice but how about colorising those notated numbers - say all 1’s are blue, the 2’s are... green, the 4’s... red, etc.

Further it would be nice to have an extra button - auto signals - or AS where when clicked will automatically fill in all cells with the corresponding number where only one possible number is notated for said cell.

Right now, using the current automation features currently available I can solve an extreme puzzle in about 3 minutes, if I really hustle but I find myself spending more than half of that time selecting cells and typing numbers and over half of those cells end up with only one possibility witch kinda makes me feel that I’m wasting a lot of time moving my fingers around the screen superfluously. If I could eliminate this I think I could solve it in under a minute.

This is otherwise a great app.
aicjl,
I like this app very much!
I have played an online sudoku game on the same app for several years. The numbers were so tiny I began to have trouble seeing them, so thought I should look at some other apps. This app is the only one I selected and have been playing it exclusively for a month or so. There are so many things to like about it. Most importantly to me, the numbers are very clear. I don’t struggle to read them. I also like the feature where you don’t have to type every number in individually, but can repeat a number as many times as you like with the top of one button on any puzzle. Thank you to the makers of this app; I am thoroughly enjoying it!
GooseYArd,
Great interface
I’ve tried several computer based sudokus but had not found one that I liked as well as pen and paper until this one. Having the option to switch entry modes is extremely useful, for example when a game requires doing a full of pencil marks, digit first is vastly faster. The pencil mark system is intuitive and the switches allow you to adjust for convenience vs challenge.

I think the only things I’d love to see added are a trainer mode a la Hodoku, and possibly some cell coloring tools although the puzzles I’ve tried that benefited from coloring are outside my skill level at present and I’m not sure I’ll ever get there anyhow.

Nicely done, big fan of the app.
Amgodsent,
Excellent brain game!!!
I love the challenges of Sudoku. It is a very good brain exercise. I’ve always loved number and solving Sudoku has become addictive for me. When I first saw it, I became curious and observed someone playing the game. It was explained to me by a coworker and I tried it. I begin purchasing Sudoku magazines and looking for them in newspapers and magazines. Then, I found them on the internet. I started off easy and now I am at the extreme level. Each night I exercise my brain for an hour or so. I always try to beat my best time. I have my own method of solving these challenging brain puzzles. By the way, I am a 73 year old lady that believes that keeping the mind sharp is extremely important. Thanks!!!
ChefCowgirl,
Great sudoku app with flexible settings!
I love this app! I can be entertained for hours. My husband and I like to time ourselves and we love that you can adjust the settings so as few hints are provided as possible, like doing it with pencil and paper!

The only thing that would make this app better for me is if you could do local competitions, so my husband and I can race to beat each other. Competitive much? LOL! Even something as simple as searching for a puzzle number so we could do the same puzzle would work so you don’t need a login or have to be online. But still 5 stars!!
