Description

Deep space…in your space!

With NASA preparing to launch the new James Webb Space Telescope, there’s never been a better time to learn about this extraordinary mission. To get you ready, The Space Agency has developed a new augmented reality app for iOS devices, and once you get your hands on it, you’ll start seeing JWST everywhere. Using this cool tool, anyone with an iPhone or iPad can experience the world’s most advanced scientific instrument in just about any space you’d like, including your own. In augmented reality, you can place a full sized, virtual model of the Webb telescope in your own backyard. Or, if you want to see the telescope in a size that fits a smaller, real-world space like your classroom or workspace, you can adjust the size and virtually place it on your desk or kitchen table. Scale it, turn it, check out the parts of the great machine labeled and annotated as it appears to float in front of you.

The James Webb Space Telescope Augmented Reality app also delivers lots of rich media with awesome facts about the mission. From video and audio presentations to spectacular photo galleries, NASA built this app as a way for you to get a close-up view of what matters most about The Webb Telescope.

Once you try it, you’ll naturally want to share! The app has you covered there, too. Place the telescope anywhere using augmented reality and you can snap a photo with your phone or tablet that includes the spacecraft, right in the shot! That means you can virtually take the telescope with you and share your photos on social media. Imagine: space telescope photos over the Grand Canyon, in the center of your home town, or perhaps floating next to your best friends in the park.

The James Webb Space Telescope heads to space later this year, but you can download The James Webb Space Telescope Augmented Reality App immediately. It’s available for free at the Apple App Store today.

urbansummer,
Needs update please
Great first attempt but crashes on open for iPhone SE2, and builds up tremendous storage on 11Pro: reached>25GB in a few days. Supplemental functions never launch when touched. Needs update.
jor ell,
Major memory leak
Every time I have this app open it is taking up more room on my iPhone. First it was 1GB, then 6GB, today I used it a few times and my my phone was full and acting weird and I looked and it was taking up 30GB of space on my iPhone! Just deleted it. It’s a decent augmented reality viewer of the telescope but its wonky.
mph6563,
Controls grayed out
My intent with this app was to put an actual-size JWST in my yard, but I don’t know how to set the size to 1:1. When I tap the NASA meatball, some buttons appear that might have useful settings to do that, but all of them are grayed out and unresponsive.
Bonzoix,
iPhone se2 problems.
Downloads fine, will not launch. Goes through the first moments of the avatars moving, etc., but nothing happens after.
kaustubh.ghadge,
Doesn’t load and app has to be closed
Good attempt to create the app to explore JWST however the app doesn’t always load correctly and has to be forcefully closed.
SFur,
App crashes when opening
The app won’t open. Hope they’ll fix the bug because I’m ready for the JWST to visit the local liquor store!
ButtersLynyrd,
Doesn’t work
When I click on the icon, zaps me back to my Home Screen.
Disappointed to say the least. Don’t purchase.
Las3rmike,
Mike
Useless! Nothing works!
yooooooooooo joe mama is cool,
App Keeps Crashing
I can’t even open this app. You guys need some better coders. Can’t believe a billion dollar government administration can’t even code an app, but they can launch rovers to Mars.
