Description

The award-winning On Cinema web series is the only movie review show on the Internet, and now it's the only movie review app on the market. Host Tim Heidecker, and Featured Resident Guest And Film Expert Gregg Turkington share their expertise as they offer up-to-date, reliable opinions on the latest and greatest movie releases. Audio reviews for over 17,000 films are included in this easy-to-use, fun, pocket-sized movie review database. Each film is discussed and then given a rating from zero (BOMB) to five (CLASSIC!) bags of popcorn.

You will no longer have to navigate the murky world of film criticism on your own! Type in nearly any title, and Tim and Gregg have an opinion on it. They don't always agree--but you'll agree that the On Cinema app is the newest, hottest way to access movie reviews.

Tired of wandering the aisles at your local video rental shop, unable to decide on a movie? Our randomizing "quick pick" feature can steer you in the right direction. Tim and Gregg have combined their decades of movie-viewing experience into a fun app that is the life of any party, and a distraction at the workplace.

MegIsCoolerThanTron,
HIGH ART
Ok. So, this app is the official app for the web series and podcast "ON CINEMA AT THE CINEMA" starring Tim Heidecker (of Tim & Eric Awesome Show Great Job) and Gregg Turkington (aka Neil Hamburger). For the most part, the app randomly generates hilarious audio-visual reviews for just about any film. It's sort of a meta-joke based on the already meta- web series, in which the hosts nearly always 'love' the movies they watch and usually offer bland, uselessly positive reviews. While the app creates random reviews for the majority of films in its database, querying certain movies gives you specific, 'easter egg'-like reviews. For example, "Star Trek II". (Here is the current list of movies that I've found so far: "American Graffiti" "Jack Reacher" "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" "Atlas Shrugged: Part I" Also, Bond films.) The 'Extras' features (clock, popcorn recipe, US Constitution) seem to be poking fun at all the lame apps that cram pointless bells and whistles into their app to appear like a better value. I kinda love the choice of the old Windows 3.1 clock! Seems so antique. But anyhoo, this app provides a rich, immersive, interactive experience that could only have been achieved in this weird new medium. TLDR: Get this app if you like mind bending art/entertainment that only costs $1!
digitalmoteur,
Popcorn
I made the popcorn recipe in the app. It wasn’t listed but I used ghee as the base oil and it came out great. I’m an Act II guy myself but wow get rid of the microwave and try your stove! It tasted like I was back in front of the silver screen at my favorite local theater. I was able to read the Constitution of the United States while eating the popcorn which was a nice bonus, but I would give this app 4 stars because they didn’t include the amendments. The popcorn is really great though and there’s also some movie reviews and suggestions so they earned that star back.

Now that I think of it I could have watched a movie while eating the popcorn, instead of reading the constitution. Maybe in the future they’ll add watching the movies they suggest through the app. Or maybe just add a notification “Hey don’t forget to watch a movie!” when you follow the popcorn recipe. Logical next step. But yeah it seems to be mainly about movies so popcorn and constitution enjoyers- buyer beware. But who doesn’t like movies?

5 stars.
Squeaky Peterson,
Leaps and bounds above similar apps
As an amateur movie critic myself, I can fully appreciate the time in effort in compiling this exhaustive in depth review of all the movies worth watching. Each review is uniquely crafted to not only provide an in depth plot, character, and thematic analysis, but Tim and Gregg also go the extra mile to provide movie enthusiasts with background information on a variety of topics such cast, crew, location, and historical context. This app surely rates in my top ten of all time apps. It didn't win any app awards for 2013, but it should. And not just for this year, but for all time. I give this app 4 bags of popcorn and you will too.
SlappyPeterson,
Remarkably in-depth analysis of films. Exceptional design and user experience too!
At first I thought this installation would be like all the other film analysis applications, leaving me wanting for a buff's expertise regarding the classic films of all time. Over the past few months, Gregg and Tim have exerted themselves as the premier de facto film critics, and this app will prove that. Any director is really going to want to see this application in their collection.
mrelasic,
This is a game-changer
Finally...an app that contains comprehensive reviews of all of the films in the American lexicon. Prior to stumbling across the app, I'd never heard of Tim & Gary. I can tell you one thing...this app is a game-changer...and I expect for Tim & Gary to become household names now. This is what the Internet was supposed to be for. It's not supposed to be games and stuff. It supposed to be hard work. This is what that is. And this is why I like it.
USBPDX,
A home run thru the end zone
Really incredible app and hands down one of the best mobile film guides out there. Wired recently did an extensive feature on the development that went into to the back end of this. Heard a rumor that Google might be buying the rights to this for their nu(sic) "Patriot Phone". Looking forward to Tim's interview on The Sean Hannity show about having to cut review budgets in the wake of Obamacare.
Brad?,
Hey guys
Great app, great for families, great for fun. Feels a little weird rating this app on the "star" scale, so while I do give this app five stars, please know for accuracy's sake that I most definitely rate this app as 5 bags of popcorn, two bags of soda, and maybe throw in a phone charger as well since You're going to be using up all your battery looking up reviews from the best movie experts around!
Jeash,
Honest reviews of films
I purchased this app as a gift for a friend and let me tell you, the movie nights we have now are never a disappointment. We never watch a stinker.

If I could borrow the On Cinema scale for just a moment I'd give this app 5 bags of popcorn and at least an iPhone 3 (to run the app).
Dave-o-Rama,
The only app you'll ever need
This app is pretty amazing and comprehensive. Need to read the latest review on the Hollywood blockbuster? This fits the bill. Need relationship advice? This app has all the answers. Need to know how to fix your sink? This app. Need money? This app. Want sex? This. It's all here. For 198 hay pennies, friends.
boobsfan69,
No audio, Ads before episodes. 0 bagger. Disappointing.
Should be taken down. There should at least be a developer note that the app doesnt work correctly anymore. I get that its 8 years old, so either fix the audio or stop selling it. I know its only .99 cents but c’mon it’s still money. At least if this is the biggest black eye for the otherwise stellar on cinema universe then the Heinetwork is still #1 in all media.
