Nanamjm,
Very poor app
The Halo hearing aids are wonderful. Not do for this app. I give this 1 star because I cannot go any lower. One of the selling points of the hearing aids was the Bluetooth control with IPhone. There is no control with this app. It disconnects first one side then the other. The only way to get back connected is to either “reset” the app or to turn off Bluetooth and turn back on. My phone is connected through the app and works great when it works. Sometimes you can only hear through one of them. This is because the other is not connected to the app. At other times while talking with phone it will suddenly disconnect from one side or even both requiring me to go to settings to disable Bluetooth and re-enable it so connection can be re-established. Says you can customize settings but have yet found a way to do so without making the sound coming in to have a very “ tinning” sound to it. Increasing the volume through the app amplifies a lot of background noise to the point it does not help. I have waited or almost a year for something to be done about this app to make it more usable.
WorthFlorida,
2 years and very happy.
Today was the 2nd time in two years that I have had any trouble with the Hilo TrueLink App. A few months ago when one hearing aid would not connect it was a software update on the hearing aids that was needed. As IOS iPhone is updated sometime changes in the IOS work different. Today, I deleted several other apps and when I went to use the app several hours later I could not get a connection on either hearing aid. To fix I deleted the app and reinstalled it. I did a new pairing and all is good. I suspect an app I deleted may have been sharing a file in IOS.

For those with connection problems do go back to your audiologist to get the latest hearing aid firmware. For those who complain about the sound quality is all in the programming. My audiologist insisted on three visits over a few months to tweak the settings. One year later on another visit he made changes that greatly improved so I could hear more clearly. Right now the left hearing aid is set a bit too high and it needs for it to be again, tweaked. But he is 170 miles away so my next trip to my old home area I’ll have him make another adjustment.

I learned that over time your hearing does change and the ability that these aids can be finely tune is remarkable. I’m very happy with these very expensive aids but worth every penny. Able to find tune them with the app is all a great benefit but it doesn’t have the same range as the audiologist can do.
Lynn201804,
This app gives me a headache
The Starkey Halo 2 app and aids are terrible. I wish I had read the reviews before I bought my hearing aids. I would have bought some other brand. The normal setting on the aids does not work in a consistent manner and I get feedback from high notes and long “s” sounds when people speak. This doesn’t happen when I change to one of my custom programs. However, the app does not stay connected. This app seems to get worse everyday. Either it can’t find the one or both aids or it takes so long to link with the aids, it closes and I have to open it again or turn my Bluetooth on and off to get a connection. My phone calls and text alerts only come through the phone sometimes and often in only one aid. If I’m on a call more than 10 minutes, I get feedback. I used to get my alarms thru my aids but that doesn’t work any longer. Starkey needs to give their customers what they advertise and quit blaming iPhone.
wishing for perfection,
Not all its supposed to be
Everything Nanamjm put in her review, is now happening to my 3-yr old Halo 2’s. I was just told there’s an update that was hidden. The tech was able to download and install the update while I was in the office.
The aids worked perfectly for ONE day. For the next 3 subsequent days, the right one won’t connect. However, IF I close the phone and reboot, it will connect, but will NOT advance program memories. The Left one advances and says “1,” 2, 3, 4; the right keeps saying “1,” 1, 1, 1; eventually disconnecting and not responding to other levels but seems locked on Stream Boost while indicating it is set at ”Normal 1.”
***These hearing aids, as advertised, are pretty cool... when it works like its claims. The technology is impressive, but very frustrating for such an expensive necessity!!! As a trial, we have unsubscribed from TruLink app and will ‘test’ a theory that these may work properly using [only] the Apple App.
Shreveport greenwood/pines,
No problems here.... Long Read.
I have been using the Halos and this app. since March 2018 with good results.
My hearing loss comes from being around loud industrial machines for 41 years.
My hearing loss was to the point of not being able to simple things like birds chirping, lyrics to music. Most of all I was missing about every other word when listening to someone speak. THAT changed after being introduced to the Halos H/A and a great audiologist that took time to explain things. (Everyone’s hearing problems are different)

I had them for about a week, and noticed the “tin can” sounds along with the “Ssss” at the end of most words. I went back to the audiologist, with in a few clicks of her computer she had adjusted my Halos.
I look at it as you have to learn to digest what you’re hearing and process it.
(I never knew how loud a house cat could be while eating)

About the APP.
Great application for the Halos. I’m thinking I’ve had to re-sync about twice for the six months I’ve used it.
I’m using the app 100% of the time when I’m wearing the Halos. You have to realize it’s Bluetooth and problems do happen.

Finding a great audiologist is the key.
HawaiianStevo,
Very poorly designed app. Period.
I was born with 70% hearing loss, (now 50 if age), so I have worn hearing aids all of my life. I was introduced to Halo 2 hearing aids with this Tru-Link app about 18 months ago. The Halo 2 hearing aids are great, but the app needs an overhaul as it fails to stay connected to my iPhone. If I leave my phone on the desk, walk away, I come back with one, the other, or both hearing aids, fail to reconnect. I usually discover this when I get a call. Sometimes one hearing aid connects to the iPad and the other connects to the iPhone. It’s so frustrating in having to constantly deal with reconnecting, every single day! This goes for the Apple Watch as well. I’m quite savvy with computers and devices, and I can only imagine the increased aggravation it causes for those who are not quite as skilled in navigating and understanding their apps and IOS devices.

Bottom line, I’m tired of this clumsy app. Starkey, you really need to get it together, and stop blaming Apple’s IOS.
Firechiefj,
Firechiefj
I’ve had Halo 2’s for almost a year and had no problem until the summer . When I sweat behind my ear the aid shuts off and sometime later comes back on. Finally shut off for good so sent back for repair. Now, for some reason the left one has kazoo type noise and if my left ear is within 8” of anything, including the seatbelt in my car it screetches. People can hear it 20’ away. The right one got extremley loud and hurts my ear if I set it over 20. Problem is I live 1 hour away from VA facility and when they send them back I’m deaf for 2 weeks. I told them I contacted Starkey for assistance and Starkey said SORRY, you must go to your provider. VA said they don’t understand why I was told this and Starkey couldn’t help. It’s like anything else, when it works it’s great and when it doesn’t it’s garbage! Oh, and yes, the connectivity problem is a nightmare.
If I didn’t get these free,(as a disabled veteran), I wouldn’t want them!
adecrist,
Love this capability!
I have been wearing hearing aides for 13 years and am in love with my new Halo IQ. Paired with this app, I can hear my phone easily - and it is in both ears! The music streaming is wonderful and again I get stereo but disturb no one else!

I don’t have connectivity problems as reported by lots of others, but I have the latest firmware on the aides and latest TruLink app. When you lose connectivity (rare for me, but it happens with lots of bluetooth devices and this is a BT device), don’t be afraid to remove the aides from BT and then the phone will search to reconnect. You might have to open the battery door then close it. It takes less than 20 seconds and you are up and running.
Lox45,
Worst app ever!!
I purchased my starkey halo hearing aids almost two years ago and the app has been in a steady decline ever since. Worked ok when I first purchased but continually have to reset Bluetooth to get connection and even that doesn’t help sometimes having to do that SEVERAL times and several times a day this happens!!! When that doesn’t help I open and close battery door on hearing aids, which has minimal affect. As a hearing impaired person, I do not have time to do this all the time, especially during a conversation either directly or via the phone. It is especially irritating because the app and the convenience it offered for Bluetooth connectivity with my IPhone was the reason I bought them in the first place! This app needs to completely overhauled, and the developer should be ashamed for putting out a horrible and misleading app. Doesn’t even deserve one star.
Madduck1,
Largest rip off I’ve ever been taken for.
I don’t think that I have ever been as disappointed in anything in all my life as I have been with the TruLink app that I use on my Starkey hearing aids. It should be against the law to misrepresent or miss led the public about what TruLink says its terrible app will do. Nothing works consistently or not at all. If I could afford to I would sue your company for misrepresentation. I purchase my hearing aids based on what your app said it could do, and it has yet to justify my buying them. I’ve yet to see an update for the app since I purchased them. Every time I update my iPhone less and fewer functions work. I’ve sent my hearing aid into Starkey with hopes of improvement but they remain the same. With the app turned off the Starkey aids work well, but I purchased them based on what you said the TruLink app could do with them. Trulink should refund part of my purchase of the Starkey aids to justify their inability to deliver what you said your app could provide.

Here is a list of things that have never worked correctly.
“Default Home Memory” won’t change;
“Comfort Boost” won’t stay on when selected;
“Streaming” to either ear is not working at any level of volume;
“Audio Routing” makes no changes to the aids.
