Pretty fun App but can use improvement
Got this app about a week ago because I am a fan of the tabletop game and wanted to give it a shot. As usual I was hesitant to a PvP because they can easily become pay to win. However so far the game seems pretty balance. As someone who will only spend a max of $5 on an app I don’t feel like I’m at a disadvantage in PvP.

That said the system to earn new cards is a little frustrating. You have 4 slots where new packs are available but you can only open 1 at a time. Opening a pack consists of waiting the 3 to 8+ hours before you can collect it. So at a point you are left to just put the game down because there’s nothing for you to gain. I feel like this could be helped by making packs immediately open and then having the slot take 3hrs before becoming usable again. That way players can get the immediate satisfaction of their prize instead of begrudgingly waiting for something they’ve “earned”. That or simply allowing multiple packs would be nice.

What really made me rate this game highly is their “ticket” help system. There is an in-app help messaging system where you can text in your issues and they respond in a reasonable amount of time. The ease of receiving help is such a nice addition that the developers didn’t have to include but did, and in a way that makes it easy for both parties.

What is this ranking system??? Bro I’m a veteran and I’m getting match with people who are Eldiritch Raider. I don’t care if their rank level is near mines, their actual ranking is not. It’s not fair. They have more points and their cards are obviously more leveled up because they are higher ranked in general. Do not match based off of rank points, match based off of the level they are in. I hardly get matched with other veterans, it’s always people who are levels higher than me. We also need more coins and cards to level up. It’s hard to especially level up the warlord, you would have to wait til that week comes to level up. And you can only buy one 💀. I wish there were ways we could get the cards we want more easily than waiting for so long. I do understand that you guys are trying to make money, but I feel there might be better ways to do that. I think maybe instead of using plasma or coins to unlock the rewards, use ads. Although I don’t know how much you would earn from that. I feel like maybe it would help, adding the options to watch ads to get the cards. Maybe have us watch ads 2 times to get rewards, please don’t make the ads 15 or 30 seconds if you can control it. If the ads are 15 or 30 seconds long, I doubt people will start watching the ads. Also make sure to add it as a option, don’t make it mandatory.

Entertaining/More to be Desired
As a fan of the Warhammer 40k universe, this game was already cool before I started playing it a bunch. The gameplay is tactful without being too overly complicated. The card packs within the store can be earned at a reasonable pace without pumping any money into the game, and there are events fairly frequently.

There are some lacking pieces though. There isn’t any real way to play with your friends or connect to them in game in any meaningful way yet (hopefully guilds will be introduced soon to solve this dilemma). Another issue I have with the game is the poor amount of customization available to your calling cards and that. I’ve only noticed one opportunity to obtain more unique profile customization, but they are way overpriced, costing about 750 plasma a piece. To put this in perspective, I could use that plasma to buy 2 card packs which would give me a total of 64 cards! That is a lot of plasma to simply waste on a calling card or border for your profile that is seemingly unimportant due to the lack of connection with others and lack of real impact or incentive to collect them. I think it would be better to put them as rewards for doing well in faction specific events.

Overall, it is a fun game, but it has some work to do before it can really be a great game.
livin2game,
Grind and Die rinse repeat…unless u pay
It’s fun at times, but when u start going on a losing streak which happens most often its not as fun. This is clearly a PAY 2 WIN game and most of the time u will be matched with someone who put their life savings into the game. These type of games thrive on people who hate losing and have lots of money. “Im too rich to be a loser!” Is the mindset of some of these players. That’s how these games make so much money. It’s all about ego. “I may be worthless in life, but at least I’m number 1 in my game.” Is also a mindset of some of these players. I’m also sure that there are some players that will pay for their wins instead of pay for their food. Just know that if u don’t want to pay, it will be a long grind. And u will lose a lot. There will be times where the matchmaking works and u have an even match. That’s when the game shines. IMO matchmaking should look at the stats of the players cards and deck size and pit players together accordingly. New players, don’t be surprised when ur deck size of 120 with level 2 stats gets destroyed by a deck size of 250 with level 5 stats. It will happen….a lot. But don’t fret and keep on grinding cause in a few years u might just have a decent deck of ur own.
CWagg93,
Victory pack wait time
I am really liking this game. At first I was having a rough time but after I got some good underlings and warlords every battle could be mine considering strat and if I have a good amount of points for cannon fodder and heavy hitters alike. But what really grinds my gears is the freakin wait time for these victory packs to open. I wanna keep going and learning new strats and getting good cards help, but if I gotta wait 8 to 12 hrs to do that come on. At least make your longest wait time like 45 mins to an hour. I mean I’m all for spend some time away from the phone to do life but I gotta plan to open my cards and get one out the way and select another and it’s wait time. And I can do one battle and that’s it. I wanna do more but I don’t wanna test what happens if I don’t have an open slot to claim a chest if I’ve already got em all taken. So shorten the time or allow multiple cards to be opened and you’ve got a winner. I really don’t wanna pay to open, I’d rather pay to get that big card box with 345 cards in it.
xTHEMAN710x,
Not good. Poor Tutorial. Lacks Depth. No Learning.
I got the game because it looked like fun and resembles a game in the App Store I really really enjoyed, Yu-gi-oh BAM. Before I go into what I was hoping for I should say what this was. 40k Warhammer has almost no tutorial: the screen just says words that recommend doing an action but allows you to click whatever you want. This is problematic because you CAN lose the tutorial, all bad. Plus Warhammer tells you what things are after you perform a few actions, like the buff system (resembling green bars that fill up). And nothing on a card is labeled, it only uses colors, location and symbols to convey “everything” you need to know. Also, like the other review I read: Prepare to lose repeatedly because the people you match up against have been playing for a long long time and as a beginner this creates a lack of wanting to play and destroys the learning curve. Strategies of attacking are impossible to understand.

I only recommend this game if you know someone who can teach you how to play, but I don’t recommend being the pioneer to go out of your way and endure the pain that is playing 40k Warhammer card game.

Yu-gi-oh Bam is a great game with linear attacking 3 against 3, but spells and other things allow manipulation of the battle field and the cards on the field resets at the end of each round allowing for comebacks if you make a mistake.

Unfair Later On
I’ve enjoyed this game for a while now and have been playing it for some time. It’s not geared towards pay to win, but you can definitely feel the power jump after playing a bit. I’m not even past Battle Brother yet in rank, and all I get are people with level 5 legendary cards, leaving me unable to defeat them, thus leaving me unable to get kill packs and skulls to open. It also levels me slower as I can’t complete objectives listed to gain exp. It’s been leaving a sour taste in my mouth as I am stuck at a stalemate with always getting near max rank players, unable to get the cards I need for certain play styles, and never gaining exp as I am unable to complete objectives. It was a positive experience to begin, but slowly going downhill as the balancing between finding players around the same level cards and same rank as I am just isn’t there anymore. It’s leading me to just leaving the game as it doesn’t feel friendly anymore to people who just want to have fun. I only paid a little money, not a whale amount, but even then there’s still a huge difference between the players I’m facing and the cards I have. Hope this review warns others for the experience to come.
Natenerd,
This is garbage
Once again GW finds a way to overprice anything that has a 40K label to it. This game would be fun if there was a player Vs. player aspect. But there is not. The game pits you against an AI that will have such a significant advantage that it becomes more of a frustrating interaction than enjoyable. Strategy consists of placing cards in your deck that synergies with others, and then watching them be torn to shreds as the significantly higher level cards of the AI fall into the correct sequence each and every time. This is done much the same way carnival games work, you get close to a win but just can’t get it. That is unless you spend real money to purchase more cards, because you need a ton of the same cards to level, but it’s random so... you get the thrill of magic the gathering on top of the thrill of losing your money. But that’s not all! Even getting the cards isn’t the key to victory! You have to have coins to upgrade them which cost...you guessed it more money! And this is the game in a nutshell, up your cards, win a few games, get slaughtered over and over again until you spend money to up your cards once again. Please if you read this, PASS ON THIS GAME!
Cain Templar,
GW wasted my time. Again.
Gameplay is fantastic. Simple, easy to figure out, easy to use and learn to use effectively. I enjoy playing this game. I can slaughter heretics, witches and Xenos all day long in the name of the glorious Emperor. Those two stars? The game developers earned them. They did their jobs correctly.

I will not however, reward an additional 3 stars until Games Workshop pulls its head from the fourth point of contact and starts making more sound choices. I don’t know who thought that the pay mechanics. were intelligently set up, though I suspect it’s likely the same arrogant buffoons who think charging $60 for 5 BA Assault Terminators and $35 for 5 Death Company as being a wise idea.
-3 hours to unlock a basic win reward? 8 hours? 12 even? And you expect me to pay my shekels to buy “plasma” to unlock them sooner? Nope. Not happening. I’ll go play Idle Miner. Your “plasma” units will simply remain input based.
-The Kill Packs only unlock after multiple hours of waiting? Nope. Not amused. Not worth my time.
-Win rewards can only be unlocked one at a time? Nope. Still not paying for plasma. Not at your extortionist rates.

This behavior is why your sales are slumping and you’re not attracting new fans. They’ll go elsewhere, just as those of us who are tired of your idiotic lunacy will find other, more pleasant diversions. You are no longer the only game in town, you need to adjust your business model accordingly.
Templeofdoom523,
Complete trash game and cash grab
I’m a huge 40K fan, so I was extremely disappointed in this card game. Not only is the art abysmal — but the cards feature photos of hand-painted miniatures. The gameplay is just as bad. You basically have a starter deck (about 3 cards) that competes in lanes against your opponent. Combat is horribly confusing, consisting of ranged, close combat and psychic attacks. You “sorta” pick a strategy each round and it automatically does combat for you. There are a few buttons, but they don’t work like you think they should. The beginning segments briefly tell you what to click on, but it really doesn’t explain anything (it’s a crappy tutorial). And once you begin to play real opponents, be ready to lose... A LOT. Since it’s all pay-to-win, you’ll soon see how your opponents pay for packs to earn the best cards out there. And the base packs start at $3.99 for random faction cards. I’ve seen it all before and this game provides zero fun, while frustrating you endlessly. You know, unless you put down money with in app purchases. And the matchmaking is horrid. The game put me up against someone who has been playing for a while. Avoid this train wreck.
