Play_More_KOF,
Fun, but lacking some basics
Right off the bat, the energy, aesthetic, and basic loop is great. Being able to use your boost to pass through certain structures was genius. I loved that. Some of the levels are quite labyrinthine and it was a great time figuring out the fastest routes.

Where I have to take away points is the lack of some basic features like a time trial mode where I can pick a level of my choosing to play. There also seems to be a very small roster of levels to play. I’ve done 14 races now and only seen 4 levels. That’s not to say the levels I played aren’t fun, but with the AI being so easy, every track feels like a time trial rather than a competitive race so I’m getting a bit bored.

I’d really love to see multiplayer as well, but I know adding that comes with its own challenges. When it comes down to it, this is a fun game, but it needs more levels and would greatly benefit from having multiplayer. I also ran into a weird issue where sometimes I would pass straight through the warp crystals without picking one up. It wasn’t every time, and to be clear I did not already have the max of 3, but I felt it was worth mentioning. It’s not gamebreaking however as there are so many opportunities to pick up more.

If you have Arcade, I definitely recommend giving this a whirl.
Tre8or,
Fun racer that feels like it’s lacking
Warp Drive kind of feels like a mash up of F-Zero and Mario Kart. You can tell from the screenshots/trailer that the visuals are awesome. Bright and vibrant colors flood the screen, as you blast through the courses. The controls feel really tight and responsive to me, playing on an iPhone 12 with a Backbone controller. The gameplay is fun, and mildly challenging, though it seems quite limited. I am currently 12 races in, and it appears that you can’t repeat levels or select any other level than the one you are on. I’m not sure if this changes once you complete a ‘tournament’. Also, the vehicle upgrades seem a bit lacking in customization.

I’d like to see more gameplay modes (allowing level selection, AI difficulty, and record tracking), more vehicle customization (ability to change the color of parts, or stream, add decals etc), and if possible multiplayer would be huge, though I understand that’s a difficult ask. Good game for what it is, and has tons of potential. Worth checking out for sure.
libertyllama11,
Very fun racing game
Mix Mario kart 8 deluxe and need for speed and this is what you get. The teleportation theme is amazing and very useful. The touch screen controls are good. But I recommend a controller. The graphics are very unique and almost like a comic book. The missions are fun and the theme of upgrading cars and you manager telling you what to do make it even more fun. It also seems pretty challenging. On the first race I couldn’t even finish 3rd. Which is a great aspect. Definitely the best racing game in the App Store and on Apple Arcade. It beats sonic racing 500/1. I think it’s even better than Mario kart. Great job devs. Really good animation, racing experience, and more! This is my go to game for Apple Arcade. I pre ordered it as soon as it was announced. If you want this game, or just Apple Arcade I highly suggest it. And this should definitely be your go to game too. Probably best on Apple Arcade
az..1,
Poor controls and no tutorial
The game seems like it has potential, but a few problems. First, the steering method. There are two buttons to steer (one to steer left, the other right) but it’s really easy to misclick or just not hit the button at all (this is why swipe typing and autocorrect are important) it’s hard to be precise on a touchscreen with small buttons unless you focus on that, impossible given that you have to focus on the race itself and not properly hitting the steer buttons. The other thing is a lack of a tutorial explaining the basics. I was able to mostly figure it out after trying the first race a few times, but there should be some explanation of the basics of what the different non-steering buttons do.

Mostly though, please please fix the controls. A settings option to change it to tapping the whole left or right side of the screen to steer would be nice, for instance; even tilting the phone would be better than this.
loafersnlaurels,
Good potential. Interface needs work.
First of all, the imagery and music are amazing. The homescreen music is really catchy and will probably hang in your head for a while. As for the gameplay, you can basically steer your craft with two little buttons on the bottom-left of your device. They are not customizable so you basically have to make sure that you’re pretty precise with your finger placement while driving around the track. I’d like to see a bigger surface area or perhaps a tilting functionality for steering in a later version. I liked playing the game for about a half hour, but the steering became too frustrating so I just stopped. The game says it is compatible with external controllers, but I’m not sure how that experience is. If the gameplay control gets better in this game, it’ll definitely be 4 or 5 stars.
libertyfallen,
Very good base but, there’s some issues
So playing the game the aesthetic, graphics, and gameplay is a very good combo for the general feel of the game. But I’ve noticed that attempting to steer becomes a very bad challenge early on in the game, turn to slow and you lose the race, Turn to fast and you lose the race. Unless you do precise turns you hit walls and slow down so hard there is no way you can get back on track early game, losing very valuable coins that can’t be attained again.

Also another issue is with some items their hit boxes are non existent, like a few times in the early races the item crystals were in all terms impossible to get, straight through, grazing, and even full on clipping into them. I wasn’t able to get the items, and my competitors destroyed me.
TheMostUnclean,
Very content light
Great mechanics, graphics and controls but as other reviewers have pointed out- it’s severely lacking in content.

1) No tutorial. It didn’t take long for me to figure out (through trial and error/observing AI) but I can see how for some it may be very difficult to understand how to play. Even the core mechanic of warping isn’t explained.

2) Completely linear progression. One race feeds into the next, no tournaments/cups. This could have been easily rectified by making things like time trials their own separate modes.

3) Vehicle parts are more unlocked than earned. You’ll always have an excess of cash unless you keep skipping races, but-

4) The game isn’t very challenging. Once you get a feel for the drift boost mechanic and memorize the warp points (which are very easy to find) then there’s no way you’ll lose.

This game has the bones of a very entertaining arcade racer but in its current state it amounts to little more than a time waster. There’s no real sense of achievement.

That being said, it’s an Apple Arcade game so there’s not a huge investment in trying it out. If you’ve got a long wait for your next flight it can help you pass an hour or 2.
andrillafrancis,
Extensive load times and poor opening
On a “high speed” game like this you’ve gotta get players right into the action as fast as possible. No body wants to wait around for things to load only to listen to a character talk to you about stuff and then finally you can play... but wait... more loading. Very boring start to the game, and I hate having to wait over and over before the start of a race. Perhaps this would be different on another device. I’ve only played on my iPhone X so far, so I’ll update this review if the load times are better on other devices.

When it comes to gameplay it does seem pretty fun. I enjoy the MarioKart-like driving style with easy-to-use drifting that gives you boosts when held for long enough.
Orbin158,
😦
THIS IS...
I don’t really know how to explain this.
The teleportation graphics are really cool, I love it, I admit at times it is hard to control, not very hard tho, but the loading I get because to load that whole map is hard, but if I have already played the map I don’t really get why it still needs to load a bunch. I also have one question because I have not finished this game cuz it like just came out:

Does it ever end? Like is there ever a championship race or anything? Because I try to get to the end every day and it just keeps on going and going. I think there should be a Quad Rotor Racer customization system, and maybe a neon map. Sometimes when I don’t have all three warp crystals I just pass through one and don’t get a warp crystal. Also just a suggestion: maybe a multiplayer, even though that it a HUGE ask. Overall love this game but one more thing for the players out there playing this game:
Sneak through the window.
WhammyBuster,
Good concept but near impossible to succeed - and that’s on level 1
The game has a decent concept, but the preset controls are clunky at best, and impossible to master at worst. I can barely get past the first round, after what seems like nearly 50 tries, and quite frankly, with no tutorial or training levels, it feels like the game just lands you into the action and doesn’t care if you end up dead last on the same level 100 times over. No incentive to continue, and no satisfaction when you get to a goal, which is nearly impossible. There should be training levels and some type of a reward even if you end up last, not a chance do do it all over again and hope you do better, when there’s no chance to even improve.
