Description
Dogs typically can detect sounds between 67-45,000 Hz, while humans can detect sounds between 64-23,000 Hz.
Dog whistle is a great tool to train dogs at a distance when instead of shouting the command out loud, you play a whistle pattern.
What frequency should I use? You have to find out a frequency that your dog reacts to. Wait until your pup is asleep, then test each tone. The right one will wake him right up.
Training. You have to teach your dog what the whistle sound means.
First, you can use a whistle to mark the behaviour, as “good job”. Tap the whistle, give a treat, tap the whistle give a treat, etc. This way your dog will start making a positive association with it.
Second, with the help of Dogo - dog training app, teach your dog some obedience commands, e.g. sit or lay down. Once your dog has mastered it, assign a whistle pattern that will represent the command.
Play the pattern, e.g. 2 short taps, say sit and reward your dog for performing. In the beginning, always combine whistle pattern with the verbal cue. After a few days of doing 20 repetitions/ day, play the pattern and once your dog sits down, reward with a jackpot! Do the same with different commands, e.g. down/ come just choose a different sound pattern. Note it down.
Warning. Use dog whistle only sparingly, tap only in conjunction with a reward. Pay attention to your pet. If they don’t seem to like it, get tense, run way, tuck the tail, consider abandoning the method altogether.
