brndndghrty,
An (Almost) Perfect App
I, like many other reviewers apparently, am a longtime fan of wikipanion. It would be fair to estimate that I’ve been using it everyday for nearly a decade. It’s fast, easy to use, no ads. My only request is a dark mode, this is the only app I use regularly that doesn’t have one. I briefly switched to the official Wikipedia app for that reason but found its navigation and UI lacking in comparison so I’m back. I’d happily pay for the pro version if it included a dark mode. Thanks so much for your work on this app!
n64king,
It’s over. Severe lag and issues.
For years I’ve used this. I mean, has it been a decade? Maybe! I know I’ve had this for ages. For so long it’s worked better than the actual wiki app when it was new, back when that app was literally a shortcut that would open Safari. Well I’m not sure what happened, but within the last few months it’s basically become nearly unusable. You type something in, it doesn’t register you’ve tapped the text box several times, then it will basically soft freeze for several moments while it decides it’s going to search what I’ve typed. Sometimes during that lag, it’ll show what I’ve searched and the related options but if you press the wrong thing, you’ve set yourself up for a fight. Cause now the app will lag to go backwards, get confused when you type the correct thing, lag some more. No idea what just happened but if a literal link to wiki isn’t working, I have no reason to continue on with it. Nowadays, the actual Wiki app works! It’s been working for years now. So I can leave this behind. But thanks for the memories and help through the years!!!
BKing12,
Most used app all-time
I’m a person who reads at least 3 Wikipedia articles everyday, even if it’s just random things that come to my mind. I got an iPhone 3GS in 2009-my first smartphone- and Wikipanion was one of the first apps I downloaded. I can proudly say I’ve used this app daily for a decade now and still going!! This was the first Wikipedia app ever made for the App Store and I’d say is arguably the best. I’ve tried the others and even the official wiki app- I never made the switch from Wikipanion. Thank you so much Robert Chin for creating the first Wikipedia app on the App Store and for making Wikipedia on iPhone a smooth process. I’m not sure how much attention your app gets anymore ever since the official wiki app came out, but I really hope you see this review and realize that you created one of the better functioning and most essential applications to hit the App Store during its early years. And again, this app is still a daily use for me. Still functioning quite well.
ingot Lipe,
Perfection
Update 1: This app is so amazing! It is literally easier to use this app than wikipedia itself (and Wikipedia has one of the finest UIs out there)
By the way, I would not use this app half as much if it were not for its spectacular app logo -- it's design perfection makes it no less appealing than the forbidden fruit that just beckons you like a neighboring paradise to want to click on it!

Original: This app is wonderful! I was looking for a quick way to access Wiktionary, and until this app, I had to open chrome, go to wiktionary, then search. Now I can just 3D touch to search directly! From 3 steps to 1 ! And when it has to do with looking a word up, anything to help fight the troublesome burden of inertia is sweeter than the first sips of honey-laced port wine
Thanks for the app
VICC55,
Cannot Add Wikis
I’m very disappointed by this app. I used this specifically for Wiktionary and I could not add any Wikis at all. I thought this was an issue with my phone so I tried it on my nephew’s phone and had the same issue. Then, I thought that purchasing the Wikipanion Plus app would fix this issue and I still could not add any Wikis. The only Wiki available was Wikipedia—which is fine but I use it primarily for Wiktionary. I uninstalled the app several times and reinstalled it and same issue. I contacted their online support team and never got an answer. I waited two weeks to get a response and no response till this day so I had no choice but to get refunded for Wikipanion Plus. I tried everything I could think of! If they fix this issue, I would reinstall it in a heartbeat but I don’t think that they offer support for it anymore which is a shame because it really is a great app! When it works.
Techno Shaman,
App appears abandoned
This is the only app I’ve come across that lets you browse different wikis across the web from one app. The app hasn’t been updated in awhile, however, and there’s no syncing of data across devices, which you might expect. The iPhone version and iPad version are different apps, and you can’t upgrade the free versions to the pro versions in the app - you have to buy the pro ones separately. There’s little layout functionality or display options, so while these apps used to look great on older versions of iOS/iPadOS, they’re getting a little long in the tooth now.

Would love it if these apps got updates using current iOS/iPadOS technologies, such as widgets, better Shortcuts support, etc. Hopefully the developer decides to merge the four version of this app into one, and keep it updated in the future.
SeekerJones,
Was Great, Now’s Late
Guess the paid version is the only version being regularly updated anymore. Ok, I can get that, but would be nice if bugs could still be addressed in this version - like the broken navigation - when viewing a loaded wiki page, navigating by taping on a section hyperlink only works one time and on that page section, your view will remain unless you manually scroll, can’t use the section hyperlinks to navigate to any other section after the first choice.
Guy96,
(Almost) The Greatest App Ever
Wikipanion is easily the app I have logged the most hours into of any app ever programmed. I love it. It is superb and unmatched in its usability and features. I would marry these 1’s and 0’s if I could, but not until you guys fix the search bar. I hate sometimes having to wait >30 seconds for a Wikipedia page to load, with a wait like that I might as well use safari. Please fix this app and return it to its former perfection.
blindoptimism,
Mostly good
Dark mode would be greatly appreciated. My only other issue is every time you open the app, the first thing you look up always takes a very long time to open (45 seconds - 1 minute) and sometimes will not load at all. Would gladly pay for upgrade if these are resolved.
Jor/Jas,
Nearly 10 years of superb functionality
Been using this app since I had my first iPod touch back around 2008 or 2009, and it has been consistently clean, intuitive, and perfectly functional. I've never had a single complaint. This app has stood the test of time and is a mainstay on my device.
