fwanders,
THE BEST DICTIONARY.
I have tried 5 or 6 dictionaries and WordBook consistently has applicable definitions. Recently, I tried a new Oxford English Dictionary to add a few British words and definitions but even they couldn’t compare. It seems like WordBook is constantly learning and adding new words. Rarely, will they be lacking a word, like a historical term, from the Victorian era. Or a current word like one used for texting or colloquially. But that is rarely, the norm is you type in a word and there’s a definition. There is a word of the day, bookmark and history and customizing in the settings. If you’re looking for a dictionary that has many more words and definitions than the rest, with a very wide variety to choose from, WordBook’s the one. It’s the best dictionary.
OutlawJoe,
Excellent Value, Best in Class Performance
I am a professional writer. I have been using digital dictionaries for decades on various platforms. This app definitely ranks top in class. Feature rich, easy to use, and comprehensive in scope. I make use of the thesaurus, etymology, pronunciation, and web related services frequently. I have had no service issues with iOS updates over the years. I would gladly pay 2-3 times the modest purchase price for the long term value.
Esbrie,
There is some problems
The app in my opinion is okay like I bought this app is a quick and easy app that I can look up words. But in my opinion it was not good enough for the price I have to pay. I am not going to comment saying it bad without proves. For one in some English words like “lead” there are two ways of saying it but this app provided one way. And sometimes when I look at how it define a certain words it’s hard for me to understand. Like the app is pretty easy to use I can give it credit for that but it need to improve to be better.
kittycat262728,
Love the app but the icon is heinous
As another reviewer already noted, the icon reminds me so much of Bank of America that I get these two apps confused all the time. It would be great if they changed the icon design to something that is more clearly that of a dictionary app. Trivial it may be, but it bugs me!

That being said, the app is perfect in every other way. I love that it has corresponding Mac and iPhone apps and that they all sync with one another. Wikipedia integration is extremely handy as well. I have no issues other than the annoying icon on my homescreen. :(
Leo from Miami,
Weird sound problem
I love and use this app a lot. But I am seeing a weird bug. When I tap the icon for the pronunciation of a word, the sound volume is first lowered to level 3 before it speaks and after the audio finishes the app sets the sound volume to 0.
I was hoping that with the next update this would be fixed but the last update of WordBook was more than a year ago. I wonder if this app has been abandoned?
MikeSooch,
Faster, more practical than other dictionary apps
I've been using this app for quite some time, after having tried other dictionary apps. I kept coming back to this app because it was faster, more practical and more versatile than the others. After reading some of the other reviews, frankly I am baffled as to some of the criticisms. This app is a great tool for writers of any kind.
IrishPirQueen,
First Review Ever!
I just love this app in every way possible! I use it as a dictionary, a thesaurus, a speller. I use Wordbook just to browse. This app never lets me down. I wish they'd update it though. As they are so thorough, I'm certain the developers could create interesting new ways to present this awesome app! Ignore the reviews that lower their ratings as they are way off base. I'd be willing to pay a little bit more; I'm that enthused.
444tiger,
Just use Google
I've had this app a long time and use it, awkwardly, to keep saved words. Could be five start but: 1. As designed it is simply easier to search definitions with a browser and developers make no attempt to address this. For example, a huge improvement in reading in iBooks for example, or any other such app to be able to "save to wordbook". 2. Search should have ability to produce suggestions when spelling is incorrect. Five stars with these changes, 2 without and that is generous as without it I don't really use it.
Mike from Floridale FL,
Best spell checker I have ever used
I am the worst speller on the face of the Earth. I was looking up the spelling of squirrel when I was asked to provide this review. I love worldBook XL. It is large enough to provide all the information you need on one page. It is easy to use. It is accurate. I use it every day. A real lifesaver when you just can't spell. I have used many spell checkers and this is the best. I wouldn't lye to you.
LoveTheLORD7,
A great dictionary app!
I have been using WordBook Dictionary for a long while now, and because it’s great in giving me several definitions as well as the pronunciation of the word, I have not had to look for any other dictionary app since then. I appreciate the work the creators have done for this app. I hope to continue using it for years to come! I am satisfied with this app!
