New for iOS 11, we've rebuilt the app from the ground up!
Back in the heady days of 2010, Jake B. made the very first open-source WXYC iPhone app. At the time this was kind of a big deal as there weren't too many radio stations (let alone college stations) that had an app available for the iPhone. Fast-forward seven years and that app was still choogling along (with a couple updates here and there).
Unfortunately, that old app just won't run on the new iOS. So, in keeping with our educational mission, it has been rebuilt by a programming novice with guidance from Jake. At the moment we're just serving up basic streaming and now-playing information, but we'll be adding more features as we go.
Airplay should be working now, along with most core audio features that you've come to expect from your iDevice.
We're so excited to get feedback on the app that we even added a feedback button! Send dvd a message and let him know what you'd like to see improved... but remember: we've got day jobs and we're building this in our free time because we <3 xyc... so be nice! Everything is open source, so if you're an able developer and want to help out please do get in touch.

Great DJs, Great Station, Great App
App is beautiful & functions well. With the touch of a button you can begin streaming the station live. It shows what song & artist are playing & includes a graphic of the album cover. The station plays an eclectic mix of all types of music. The DJs are personable, knowledgeable and skilled. No, I didn’t get paid to write this. I just love intelligent, knowledgeable DJs, especially ones that mix with an artistic flair.

I live in Big Sur, CA, but grew up in Chapel Hill. It's crazy to me that WXYC has been so consistently good for so long. The app connects me to one of the best college radio stations I've ever heard. So dope - thank you.

AirPlay?
Big fan of WXYC since the days when I lived in Chapel Hill/Carrboro in the 90s.
Love the app overall with one very major issue: No AirPlay support. Truly an astounding oversight that needs to be remedied as soon as possible.
A lesser issue is the lack of iPad-native app considering that this is designed to be a "Walkman" but given what I mention above, it's worth a look.
Just roll out a universal app with AirPlay next time and you've totally won.

Perfect in it's simplicity, but I would add one feature...
I would love to be able to click on a track in the playlist and save it to page that has favorite tracks.

One of the best radio stations in the country just got better with this app...
To travel around New England listening to WXYC is wonderful. Slips out of service every now and again, but great, just great.
