Description

Smash, clobber and bash the murderous legends of Slavic mythology in this darkly funny action role-playing game that changes every time you play. Play as Ivan, a one-handed blacksmith with incredibly bad luck, who must take on the impossible tasks given to him by the tzar. All the while the mysterious witch, Baba Yaga, watches over Ivan's fate.

The world of Yaga is a world steeped in Slavic folklore and ancient Pagan beliefs. Featuring a head-bobbing Romanian hip-hop soundtrack from Subcarpați and striking, hand-drawn 2D artwork. Yaga is an authentic love letter to childhood fables from Romanian indie developer, Breadcrumbs Interactive.

• Bludgeon the ancient monsters of Slavic folklore using a vast arsenal of hammers and tools forged by Ivan's own hands.
• Your actions change Ivan's story, his reputation, and the upgrades he can choose.
• Experiment in the deep forging system to make weapons like teleporting lightning hammers and hookshot pitchforks.
• Explore the combinations of talismans, magic items, blessings, perks, and curses to fundamentally change how Ivan plays.
• Multiple endings, multiple ways of solving encounters, procedural map, lots of characters to encounter, and hidden secrets mean Yaga is meant to be played over and over again.
• Ivan's grandma just wants him to find a wife. Don't disappoint her!

Thmccl,
Great so far, would like a faster startup time
The game isn’t easy but the impact of choices (including the role of the witches and their impact on your luck) is original. The graphics and music are awesome.

As others have mentioned, there are some rough edges when it comes to responsiveness. I am a web developer and am aware of the complications of making an application for totally different form factors. I enjoy playing the game most on my iPad mini; the text and button sizes seem just right.

However, the prompt when loading the game reads, “Press any button to start,” which shows some corner cutting on the part of the design work. Some variations are necessary to make the game enjoyable throughout the device lineup.

Startup time is quite long, which has honestly led me to switch to another game several times when I just have a few minutes to play. I understand that this game isn’t trying to be that type of passive experience, but there seem to be some performance issues that if resolved would make first impressions more solid.

I know the developers are interested in feedback. I appreciate the work they have done to bring a great game idea to this platform and introduce a great folktale from Eastern Europe to the world.
MurcielagoZhou,
A great RPG game hasn’t been seen in the market for a while
This is a beautifully made RPG game. The art style is unique and remarkably gorgeous, a quite strong medieval flavor. The story is engaging, it grabs my attention from the first second and really eager to learn more. I particularly like the dialog system and the different ending they might lead to. (Can’t tell now since I am still early in the game and don’t know the impact each of my choice) The battle reminds me a lot of Bastion. It’s fun to play, a bit hard to control via touch screen. But with Xbox controller, it feels way much better.

So small drawbacks from my point of view. The first one is the loading screen in the beginning of the game. Since it doesn’t say the game is loading and the witches are doing their poses, I thought the game is stop responding for some reason. Another one is the guidance of the missions. Maybe I am spoiled by the modern mobile and console games with very clear guidance at least in the early stage, I feel a bit lost in this game. I need to explore, talk to every NPC to accomplish the mission. This leads to a slow pace in the beginning, but from bottom of my heart, I am eager to do some battles.

This is the type of game I would be happy to finish it. I will keep playing it. Really great job, dear developers.
Coeur de Parisienne,
Wow! What a Cool Game! Note to Dev:
So I’ve been playing this game for a while. Frustrated at times - until my brain finally realized that I could use the PS4 Controller- then things took off! I have not stopped playing - my neck is sore & my legs are numb from sitting where I am; so that I may focus on the game much better than I have been. Everything about it is AMAZING! Great game, great story, amazing music and gameplay! A definitive 5 Star Worthy game.

However, I have reached the “Deadwoods” (not sure what they are called; but it’s the area where the ghosts & eerie atmosphere is the setting. It played as the rest of the game has done so far. But...suddenly there was a lot of strange interference, screen slowing & jumping around. I thought maybe it was my internet or phone -even this it is brand new iPhone XR-I could play despite the glitching. It then continued, until it finally froze up altogether. HELP! This is not a complaint, this is just to let you know that at this level something bad is happening. I closed the game out. Will reload it again. But I wanted to pass on the info. Here I go reloading the game.
MusiqMysfit,
Incredibly Well Thought Out
I’m so surprised at the low ratings. It almost deterred me from downloading this game, but I read the version history, and most of the bad ratings are from before they did their big update. The other bad reviews seem to be people who are impatient. The game takes a bit of time to load. If it crashes, it’s NOT the game; it’s your device. And I have no idea what the person who “bad translations” is talking about. It’s a rhyming story, and sometimes sacrifices are made for the sake of a rhyme. That’s honestly the only thing I can possibly think of what that person could have been talking about. I think the rhymes work perfectly, though.
I absolutely love the rhyming story and the fact the characters are all voiced. The music is surprisingly fun too! I appreciate all of the work that was put into this. I hope more is added in the future :)
Golodupiku,
Great Concept and Gameplay!
This game really defines what the Apple Arcade standard should be! The controls are fine when you get used to them, and the variety of abilities makes this game near endless with replayability!

The always random level design with a ton of voiced dialogue makes a cleverly made rpg with new freshness every time. Though some bosses will take one or two runs to get the hang of, it never feels unfair, and trying out the many abilities Ivan obtains on his quest can make a huge difference in the a boss fight!

The game really encourages you to stay in character, as Ivan’s bad luck increases if you make a decision that doesn’t match your previous decisions. I loved the implementation of the bad luck meter, and it really affects your game!!! I found it really interesting, as you have to think about when you use your items. If the meter gets too full, use lose a ton of equipment!

That being said, all the text on the screen is extremely small (on phone). Also, on one of the first quests to get an item, I got stuck, as I thought I had to talk to someone in town, but I couldn’t. This wasn’t a bug or anything, as the real way to complete the quest was to venture in the forest.

Overall great game and very fun! Thanks!
App_Addict101,
Update
I have had to start from the beginning 3 times now. Every time I reopen the app it says “game save file corruption” “file is either corrupt or missing” so now I don’t even want to play because the next time I open up the game I’ll have to start all over again.. please fix ASAP!
Playing on iPhone X on newest iOS!

Response: Developer.. yes I only have one Game Center account so it’s definitely logging me into the same one every time.. and as far as iCloud, I have a ton of games and they all save perfectly fine so iCloud space is not the issue either. Hope this issue can be fixed, I saw another comment that was having the same problem as me. I would love to play this but it is pointless until the save issue gets fixed.

2nd Response:
Turns out it was my iCloud storage that was full. I made some space and it saved perfectly fine. Do other games save to the phone or something other than the iCloud? Because this is the first game I’ve had save problems with, just curious. Thanks for the advice, game is amazing! Excited to play more than 10 minutes lol 😊
Slimster12,
Great game but
I really like this game, good story and dialogue, which is rare for any game... i am into the 2nd quest line and i have hit my first bug. I hit a flying bat creature and it split onto smaller bats. One of them spawned on the other side of the barbed barrier and we are now stuck in a face off... i guess i will have to restart the quest to deliver my items to the weird lady. Hopefully, it doesn’t happen again.... well 2nd problem just discovered. I tried to exit the level via switch tale and it asked if i wanted to reset progress. I said yes, expecting it to go back to where i had last saved and loaded in from. It deleted everything and took me to make a new character...
Twirling fern,
Game is confusing and gameplay issues
Gameplay is okay with controller. Low battery consumption.

Touch controls don’t work as well. But selecting dialog choices is bad with controller. And pushing start doesn’t allow access to inventory/quests screen.

What is the yellow bar with a skeleton hand icon? I get hit and it goes down so it’s like hp, but also goes down when I use the upgraded claw. Sometimes it regens and sometimes it doesn’t.

Flying hammer doesn’t hit enemies even though it passes right through them. Sometimes it hits only in the way back.

Do I want bad luck? It’s very confusing. I turn in a quest and just ask for a blessing and then he gives me a blessing and it gives me bad luck. What?? Then I’m fighting and randomly a ghost attacks me and says I lose some items?? There is some purple eye symbol. What is this? Bad luck indicator?

Forge is not explained. When can I upgrade my weapon? What do I need?

Quests should have a direction indicator.

Game is also slow to start up.

This game needs some cleanup. Has potential.

Love the game and concept, crashes too much
Good stuff first: This is a fun, in-depth game with a lot of content and hours of play. The soundtrack is amazing! Really fantastic music. I love how your decisions shape the game. It’s also quirky, a little dark, and funny.

Now the not so good: crashes constantly. There are no in-level save points, so all your progress is lost after a crash. I’ve had to start certain quests over five or six times. It’s incredibly frustrating. With slow load times (1 min+) and lost progress, sadly I’ll probably end up deleting the game instead of slogging through til the end, which is unfortunate because it has a lot of promise.
alien972,
Needs scrollable map
I’m lost with no map that I can scroll thru. I see the mini-map but isn’t very helpful. Map should display labels on locations , people, etc, at least on the places I’ve visited. Also an option to have a quest direction indicator would be very helpful, otherwise I’m exploring, checking/rechecking every corner, which can be a grind and feel lost.

For combat, it’s very, very annoying that a temporary wall goes up right behind you and feels like I’m thrown into a cage match with no room to move. Very hard to get setup to throw the hammer or have time to plan a combat strategy. Please remove that or move the wall further back.
