Started out fun but ended weird
POSSIBLE SPOILERS: This started out to be pretty fun, it seemed like you were gonna solve a mystery and obtain a bunch of different clues in order to reach the end and defeat the bad guys and save the girl. Plus it seemed like one of those games where you had to make the right choice in order to get all the goals but I’m not actually sure if that matters, I might have to play it again. It just got kinda weird towards the end. You didn’t actually find out how you had lost your memory, and you never made contact with “the man with many eyes” (or something like that). Some of the clues weren’t really clues and it didn’t explain how exactly the drivers got there or how you magically appeared in their car. The drivers would talk for a really really long time about things that didn’t really have anything to do with the plot, it took me almost thirty minutes to get through the levels. Some of the drivers stories seemed kinda random and just thrown together. It was like a mixture of science fiction and mystery, it wasn’t a bad game at all just weird with a bunch of story holes and the ending was disappointing.
muffinmuch,
It started out good
The story and mystery was interesting enough but overall I’m disappointed by the game or more so disappointed by the ending.
There really needs to be a skip function or something because I really don’t want to replay and sit through the same thing over and over without it being like a Groundhog Day thing where your character knows the info beforehand and the story changes some. I heard the ending is the same outcome but depending on your dialogue options you get answers. Starting from a chapter wont help me since I don’t know what’s suppose to influence the story and sitting through slow dialogue isn’t fun a second time. Maybe find a guide first.

Overall the experience was fun my first play through since I went in blind and was very curious but I wish there a skip/fast forward because I still don’t have answers to questions the game told me.

Great story in beginning; Horrible ending
WARNING POTENTIAL SPOILERS in my review. I don’t want to give anything away. The story in the beginning was very intriguing and I definitely wanted to keep playing to see what would happen next. It was a amazing story until literally the ending. You have all of this build up for the story and then the most disappointing ending. It was like it just randomly ended. Many questions left unanswered and just a horrible cliff hanger ending. I don’t want to interpret the ending to what I think it means, if that was the intention. Maybe post a thread somewhere on what the ending signified to the creators and who all of the characters represented. I understand about who Craig represented and the crash, but I still felt there were questions in the end unanswered. When you have that much build up it needs a more solid clear ending. It made the entire game feel pointless and a waste of time. Which I hate, because I was really enjoying the story. Would have been one of the best Apple Arcade games I played if there was a more clear. ending. With an actual updated ending or a thread explaining what the ending fully represented, then I’ll replay and update my review.
mbghiok,
Great story game
This was one of the best story games i’ve ever played. The story line is like someone finding out himself and teaches life lessons. The voice acting is 10/10 and each character has their own struggles in life really teaches us how we are all different from another but always have a solution for one another. If anything, this game is a must play for anyone that wants a good story. Some say the ending is a bit of a cliff hanger but that’s partly true but half the story comes from each character and if you ignore what they say, than of course the ending is gonna be weird. I recommend playing this all in one sitting since it’s gonna be really weird coming back and forgetting what happened. Game is 2 hours or more of playtime of all the talking but makes up with a good story and life lessons. I can’t explain anymore but just go ahead and play this game
Annana1907,
Well designed metaphorical game(SPOILERS)
I will preface by saying this game isn’t to be taken literally but is designed with hidden messages and clues to a grandiose metaphorical ending. There are a lot of clues along the way that there’s more to it than some stupid damsel in distress(which for some reason many reviews seem upset about?) It only became more and more obvious even before the trunk scene that the character had inner turmoil unrelated to some arbitrary kidnapping and a two dimensional villain. It seemed pretty obvious that it was his fault all along and he was just unknowingly navigating his guilt and denial. Did no one wonder why they didn’t want him to find out? They know he isn’t in danger because it’s obvious he’s dreaming, so it’s clear they know he will find out it was all his fault which is why they say to let it go.

Warning: Possible spoilers
This is a great game, don’t get me wrong. The visuals were amazing, I loved each and every different ride, I loved the element of mystery, the story was intriguing and fun and meeting all the different people was fun as well. But my issue is, like many other people have stated before, the ending. I guess it could just be open for interpretation but I’m really not sure, was it all just a weird dream and his girlfriend was completely fine? Was it just a dream but instead of her being kidnapped had they simply broken up? Or was she actually kidnapped? In my personal opinion I think it was the second option, but there’s still a lot of open ends that make it questionable. Would just have liked a more conclusive ending, but other than that I absolutely loved the game.
JediWizard9,
Almost perfect
I loved playing this game. I have played many mobile games that are trash and some that are okay. But this game takes it to the next level. There is an amazing story where you keep losing your memory and have to find your lost girlfriend while hitchhiking. But you can’t trust just anybody, not even yourself. At first I thought that I wouldn’t like it because I don’t really have an interest in point and click games. But after 5 minutes I was drawn in to the mystery. The only problem is that it has an ending that is wholesome but it leaves some holes. You never find out more about the man with many eyes or actually find your girlfriend. But overall, for anyone looking for a great story game for mobile, this is what you’ve been looking for.
JazGalaxy,
A Tragic Waste Of Time
Hitch Hiker is overly ambitious. It’s honestly just a mess. Most of the “sales points” that they use to market the game are blatantly false and misleading. It’s barely a game and an entry in the “walking simulator” genre of interactive media similar to Firewatch. And just like FIrewatch… it’s just not any fun to play. The amount of interactivity is almost nonexistent and is essentially boiled down to a person telling you to do a thing and then you pointing at it. “Pick that up”. “Put that there.” It’s tedious and unfun.

Most people complain about the story, which isn’t truly a problem. Yes, the story is vague and requires thought, but it’s all there. The true problem is that the story just isn’t very interesting. If you actually explained the story to the people who don’t GET the story, they would be dissapointed. It’s bog standard, JR High levell stuff.

But it IS told in an interesting way. The first fifth of the game is legitimately good and the surrealism is ALMOST worth the time it takes to play teh game. But the tedium of playing the game combined with the fact that the longer the game runs, the worse the story becomes makes it not worth the effort of playing it.

An extremly promising start, but a poor effort. If they make another game, they need to make sure that the story is a story worth telling before anything else.
Firethorne X,
A long downhill road to nowhere.
I really wanted to like this game. The core concept of a road trip like this is a great setting for a potential story. The art style is sharp. It controls well and seems very polished.

But, then we get to the actual story and it is just such a disappointment. With every chapter, the story becomes more and more disjointed and incomprehensible. There are weird recurring elements, like a man with many eyes. It’s completely unclear if that’s supposed to be i’s on a business card, or zeroes on some foreign currency, or something else. It’s even unclear who this person is, and there will never be a satisfactory answer. It just seems like the authors shifted focus at the midpoint to finish their story entirely with some impenetrable surreal high concept symbolism. It is sad to see such a promising concept go so awry.
Octopusesarentaliens,
A completely unexpected experience- Love it!
More an interactive movie than a traditional game, this is a true slow burn, best enjoyed by sitting back and surrendering to the game play. By allowing the drivers to set the pace, you, as the hitchhiker, are free to explore the environment. Over 5 “rides” HitchHiker drives you from the familiarity of the suburbs, through expansive rural landscapes, into the unreliability of dreams, the subconscious and reconstructed memory. Though ride 5 could have been longer and could have revealed some of the unknown aspects underpinning the greater story, it provides a highly satisfying, cyclic and - like all the best movies - enigmatic conclusion. Highly recommended!
