feelwhatuknow,
These lights are good...when they work
These lights were great the first season. Second year we had to exchange two strings which was possible thanks to Home Depot customer service. This year two more strings out. HD is will to exchange again but we’ll have to travel to different stores to see if the other stores will give us the same courtesy. HD is not at fault. It’s the company that makes this substandard product. And even worse customer service. We contacted AppLight customer service via e-mail and went back and forth three times with questions and answers only to finally be told they have a 90-day warranty. The back and forth could have been avoided had they been up front from the start. I do understand limited warranties, but I understand customer service even better. I would expect an exchange or replacement had I gotten at least 2-3 good years out if the product but after only one to have different sets malfunction speaks to the quality of the product. We spent about $800 on these lights only to now have them not value us as customers. AppLights gets no customer loyalty from me. I suggest trying a different brand as this company does not make a quality product and on top of that does not value its customers. I give them one star only because zero is not an option. Signed, an unvalued customer who is also a customer service professional. I expect more.
Thizzlewizle,
Stay away from these
I spent a lot of money on these lights. Between the candy canes ,the icicles, the C7,C9, the tech tree. As the other user said mine worked out of the box. I have no more then 5 per power outlet and all on GFCI's. well I would say at least 20 boxes of lights not including the other accessories they sell, and I have returned 8 boxes and replaced them with a new set over the last couple weeks. After speaking with someone from customer service they said it was just a bad batch with wiring issues so I said no problem. I'll give it another shot. Yet again another string stopped working to were only half of it lights up and the other half is either off or completely different color and out of sync. Terrible thing is not o my the money I spent on these but the time to put them all up as well. I had people stopping at the house to watch the lights but now I don't turn them on and xmas is a few weeks away. So I do not recommend these as I will now be returning all the boxes back to Home Depot and talking with the maker off applights again smh. My kid loved to watch these when they would actually work.
ValenciaDavid,
No Custom Abilities and the Christmas Options are not very good
The app lights are a great idea, but it would be much better if the user could have more control of the lights such as setting the light color for each bulb, up to 8 in a row and then selecting effects. If the app controls the light in each socket, then this should be possible. For example, if I wanted to go green (1), red (2), white (3)... Every 3 bulbs would be green-red-white. Since there are 24 bulbs in a strand, you could have divisors of 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8 for custom control of the color sequence. The Christmas color options are not very good. Since the LED's are multi color, we should be able to choose our own colors too. The same goes for the spotlights too. We need more control of each individual light.

I want to know if these options will be available on my existing lights in the future, otherwise I will return all 7 sets. I think they are too expensive unless these options will be available on the current sets in the future.
MaineDezign,
Work well so far
My experience with these lights has been good so far. Mine is only one string and being used indoors. I have had only one issue with the ap and string losing communication, but followed instructions to reset and it came back and no problems since. Some suggestions. Like others have said, customization of the ap. Nice presets but give the option to choose colors. Definitely should have a timer built in. Although you can plug it in to a timer, this feature really should have been included from the start. Wish there was an option for smaller string or smaller lights to go in compact indoor windows. The current strand is too long. Maybe 10 icicles instead of 24 (which is outdoor of course). Wonderful concept overall. We are in on the ground floor with this one. Keep improving please!!! Lots of opportunity here! :) (but shoot for customization of colors first please!!!)
SurvivintheBurbs,
Not under development
Bought on impulse when they were on clearance. They seem to work fine but disappointed there is no way to customize colors/schemes or have multiple strings work in sequence. In other words, each string will do the exact same lights rather than combine to make the effect bigger. I’d like a light wave to travel across my whole house from string to string rather than have three matching waves on my three strands.

Looking through the release notes just updates for new iOS releases the past two years, so don’t expect any growth here. Off to check the web to see if someone has reverse engineered the communication protocols so I can get more out of these.

Great when using 8 or less sets
Last weekend I bought a variety of APPLights totaling 6 sets and they were awesome! The kids loved them and we played with the different color options and effects. Last night I bought 6 more sets so I could finish out my roof line and add more pathway lights plus the tree from APPLights and now I can't control any of the lights. Customer support said I would need 2 devices to control my 12 sets as you limited to only 8 per device running the app??? It's 2016 and 8 sets of lights is the magic number? I saw the Home Depot add for the Great Light Fight on ABC and it shows Santa giving a demo from his phone and there are clearly more than 8 sets on that house. More like 25+ if not more and it showed him changing the settings on the fly. Please update this app to be equally superior to the light set hardware which seems very well made.
ChadNL,
ios13 doesn’t work... yet use ios12 for now
I’ve had these lights now going on 3-4 years. I’ve got several varieties of strings. 6 icycle strands on my house alone. They work great year in and year out. Last year my first strand stopped working. They are a lost cause unfortunately. Another stopped as well but I was able to return.

I decided to write a review now because I put up the lights just now and doggonit they won’t change colors or blinks. Not on a single strand. I noticed the app pushed an update 2 days ago. Still doesn’t work. After thinking through it a bit. It doesn’t connect to the strings like it should. When I see the “6” connected lights they are red. They should be green. Then I began to think no way all of them are busted. Gotta be a software issue. My kids have older iPad minis that won’t accept ios13. So I downloaded the app and tried that. Works like usual again.

Hopefully they push another update that fixes the issue but we love them. We leave our lights up from Halloween to New Years. I use thanksgiving colors for November and Christmas light shows for December.

Hope this review helps others with the same issue.
Impact HT,
App lights
I purchased these lights and they worked immediately right out of the box the first reviewer said it just says connect to Bluetooth and is stuck there. That is just a reminder if you swipe to the left it takes you through 10 set up demo pages then the lights can be controlled after that. the app is very responsive and lights change immediately. The only reason I rated 4 out of 5 is after purchasing 9 sets I realize the app says only eight sets can be added so I'm going to have to leave one part of my house undone. Also it says you can set different strands of lights to different colors and effects from one another although I haven't been able to figure this out yet gonna call tech-support tomorrow.

Initial review: They seem great
This app is working perfectly with the candy cane lights. We have 4 sets linked together and they work great. At first I was wondering why there was nothing showing up on Bluetooth but right when I went into the app they were detected automatically and I was controlling the lights in literally seconds. There are tons of modes in the ways of which the lights flash. As for the colors. That is where it falls short. There are only really four colors in the app and the box it advertises many more colors. It's really plain and simple. There is red, blue, green, yellow, and white. For most this all you will ever need. Since they are candy canes however it confuses me why there would themes such as Halloween and Saint Patrick's in the settings.
guccichuckts,
Confusing
The app is so unintuitive it took me almost 15 minutes to figure it out. I don’t like that it shows me options for every light you could buy when I only have one. I have to swipe through multiple screens to find the one I purchased. There should be a better way for users to select their option and then that’s what they have to work with. The app only seems to work half the time, too. I’m laying inside trying to change the effects and nothing will happen. Poor instructions. The lights look great but it would be easier to just flip a switch and get what I want without all the added hassle. Sorry, needs work!
