war02orc,
App needs work, no API
The app definitely needs some work. Half the time the commands I give are ignored and that’s assuming an app update or hub firmware update didn’t break something. The syncing with custom music is pretty lackluster, and the customizations are limited. That being said, the lights do look nice when they are working, and if i leave them alone they tend to be fine.

One other thing that irks me is that there’s no API or integration with other tools. I have a large investment in home automation, but this provides no way at all to integrate my lights into that automation. I’d settle for a simple on/off functionality (ex: Alexa turn on my Christmas lights) but even that is completely absent. Given the lights are on a hub to begin with adding an API to reach shouldn’t be that hard especially for local network integrations like Hubitat.
Ryanrp,
Most recent update has made the hub worthless
I have had these lights for the past four years and although each year it was terribly difficult to get things connected to my home Wi-Fi after about an hour or so of unlinking and re-syncing. They would finally work however this year the recent updates on the app and firmware update on the hub, claiming to have fixed timer and made it more reliable, has now completely broken the timer. In addition, even when I select to do a specific light, show it, deselects, the light show randomly, and when I choose certain music to play it deselects music as well. The volume adjustment randomly works now as well. all these recent updates have completely made the hub and my speaker is nothing more than bricks. I have to settle with plugging them into other timers and letting the default settings take over when the candy canes, an icicle lights and spotlights, and everything else that I have purchased come on and of course, none of them are in sync, because of them being on their own random patterns. It is completely broken the app, and made the entire purpose of buying the hubs, and the speakers, and the lights a worthless purchase. Please, for the love of God, fix the app, and the firmware to make the timers actually work.
Curtiss Jay,
Great disappointment
These lights are great when they work. Here lies the problem. Last year I had trouble with them in the beginning. Would work spontaneously. I reset them up and they worked. We’re really nice at Christmas. So we were excited to use them again this year. Upon setting them up I saw there was an update. Thinking this should make getting them setup and working even better I went ahead with the update. The update seemed to go well. We did have a new updated mesh Wi-Fi system so thought things should be so much better. Boy we’re we wrong. Had tons of trouble getting them to work. Finally did. Ok all’s good. Nope. Didn’t work. Reset all. Reconfigured. Tried again. Would tun on randomly to random settings. Tried it all one more time. It worked. Yes for about two days then the same problems. Firmware bugs? App bugs? Both? Or is it bad chips. All of the above. Do not buy!! Look elsewhere! Spend your money elsewhere. Wasted here. Very sad. What should of been a great product turns out to be a nightmare product for all.
Tonkswife,
Disappointing
We bought 2 strands of icicles and 1 strand of candy canes. We also bought the outdoor speaker and the indoor hub. There has been no improvement in 4 years to this system. No new music and if you don’t use their music, you don’t get the light show. If you stream your own music, everything just blinks. It’s very difficult to find new lights and many of the larger items are never available. This set is exclusive to Lowe’s and Lowe’s just isn’t stocking it. I keep hoping for more and better every year and nothing.

Now let’s talk about how glitchy the app is. Every 2-3 days we go outside to find the timer hasn’t turned our lights on and we have to manually turn them on. Every other morning the timer hasn’t turned our lights off the way it’s suppose to.

Finally, the quality of the icicles is horrible. We have an icicle break off in the wind every single year and have to buy a new strand. These strands are not cheap. I would expect them to last longer than two years. Very frustrating.
CRayeZ,
This has potential, but falls short.
I recently purchased the Orchestra of lights speaker box, spotlight/speaker combo & WiFi hub.
You have to download this app to work the lights. When the lights are working & going with the beat, it’s pretty cool, BUT this app & maybe even the WiFi hub both need some major tweaks.

There’s not been a single day for the past 2 weeks when I get off work that I haven’t had to sit out in the cold weather having to mess with these products. It’s like the app will find the Orchestra of Lights products but maybe 2 days out of the week can I get everything up & running using the app. The app just doesn’t want to work on the lightshow box most of the time. So I’m constantly having to restart the app, some times even going as far as to completely delete the app & even then it doesn’t want to work right sometimes.

On the days when it does work, it’s cool. I can pull the app up from inside the house & adjust the volume or turn the music off completely. I can sit the 6 songs up to play & leave it be.

But again, that’s seems to be rare. It’s such a pain. I really hope they get this app working properly because it does have potential.

Upgraded hubs
If you have a hub purchased previously to 2021 the new updates on the app such as locking or unlocking lights so you can change each device color or grouping your lights together isn’t compatible with previous hubs. Our app doesn’t even give us these options because we have hubs purchased previously to (2021). You would have to purchase a new hub (2021) so each time they upgrade new functions for the system you would have to purchase a new hub. No where on the boxes does it explain that to have all functions on your app you would have to purchase a new hub every year. This is heartbreaking knowing how much we have spent and each year we have added more to our collection.
BenObiWanless,
App is horrible
It looks like the last update for timer improvements did not work. Maybe the engineers are testing on theory and not in real-time. Two nights in a row after updating the app per Apple App Store and then also when opening the app right after the App Store update, there was another update, but still had to turn on the lights manually.

This is the second year in a row having issues with connectivity and app issues. Do not buy this product friends and for some background I have a background in computer programming, electrical and software design so I’m highly qualified to say pass on this product.
Scubastevenm,
It got worse!!!
The OOL products are great I love them!! But the app is garbage !How is it that it got worse from last year. After several updates still can’t get the timer to work. Can’t turn my lights on unless I’m home - I have to reset the hub at least 4 times a week. Same 6 songs from year to year ? I should be able to program this app- to play music till 10 then go to another feature- etc- I was really hoping it would get better but it really has gotten worse. I spent a lot of money in OOL products- I have at least one of everything - I expected more from the app

Terrible App, Terrible Company
This company has no desire in keeping customers. They do not answer social media, reviews, or respond to instant messaging. They have ventured into a substandard over priced product. I have left reviews multiple places after they never contacted me over their ridiculous “timer improvements” which broke timer functionality all together. Now the timer works!!! However, the music doesn’t resume from its last setting like it should. So the lights basically turn on in a static configuration… I will be throwing these out after this season and getting twinkly.
Rad_78,
Waste of money
If you bought the Orchestra of Lights return it and get your money back immediately. I’ve had this product for three years and every year it’s the same thing—I only hope for different results. The hub takes forever to connect and when it does all of the sections do not Linnaeus to the hub; leaving one or two sections doing their own thing while the rest of the sections are synced up. This product is too expensive to cause this much aggravation. I am sure there are less expensive options that work great and keep you sane during the holidays.
