Description

The legendary ARP sound, exquisitely reproduced in software.
ARP ODYSSEi - A mobile analog synthesizer for iOS.

The ARP Odyssey of 1972 has earned an unshakable position as a classic analog synthesizer. In 2015, KORG produced the ARP ODYSSEY, a complete reproduction of the original. The ARP genes that shook the worldwide music scene are being passed on, and its history continues.

The next platform for the ARP ODYSSEY is iOS. We want the unforgettable ARP sound to be easily available on a device that as many as possible of today's players can obtain; this resulted in the "ARP ODYSSEi" app for iPad / iPhone. Based on the revived ARP ODYSSEY, we used KORG's proprietary CMT circuit modeling technology to reproduce the analog feeling and sound of the original as closely as possible. We've also given it numerous enhancements that are possible only with software, such as long-awaited polyphony and built-in effects.

The real analog ARP ODYSSEY, and now the uniquely evolved ARP ODYSSEi, brings the universal fascination and inimitable sound to every device.

* Due to differences in CPU speed of iPads / iPhones, iPad 3rd gen/2/iPad mini/iPhone 4s are not supported, only iPad Air/iPhone 5s or later is recommended.

[ Features ]

- Faithfully models the circuit of the ARP ODYSSEY: The circuitry has been reproduced using KORG's proprietary CMT (Component Modeling Technology), developed over the years starting with the KORG Legacy Collection.

- New functions to create all-new ARP sounds: Added a voice assign mode that allows you to play chords, an arpeggiator that can be programmed in detail like a step sequencer, and effects that can transform the sound in diverse ways.

- Get all three of the sought-after revisions: In addition to the standard design of the Rev3 with its black panel and orange silk-screening, you can optionally obtain the white-paneled Rev1 and the black-paneled gold silk-screened Rev2 designs, together with fifty new preset sounds that take advantage of the distinctive filters of those models.

- Produce music together with KORG Gadget: ARP ODYSSEi can be used in conjunction with the "KORG Gadget" music production DAW app that has won numerous awards around the world. If both apps are installed, it can be used as the "Lexington" gadget inside the KORG Gadget app.

Smackulus,
Best iOS Synth by a mile in 2021
It took me forever to buy this, and I’m honestly shocked to say it is easily the most powerful synth I have in my collection, including the Model 15. Sorry Moog. You would never know what a beast this is just by looking at it.

The modulation and effects options on this really make it astonishingly flexible, particularly the sequencer. This thing can do it all, and can control nearly any parameter. You can combine and break the modulation pathways with just as much freedom as with a modular. Smartest design ever.

The synth itself sounds absolutely amazing, and the fact that you can choose a universal tuning setting (mine will be forever set to the beautifully unstable analog setting) is such a plus. There’s a great collection of filters and effects, and if you really analyze the presets you will quickly see you can do pretty much anything you want with it.

I do wish it had midi learn within the app. I was able to program the cc numbers into my launchkey 61, so it is fine, but that was rather tedious. Absolutely worth doing though.

So this is a genuine fully fledged virtual analog instrument that I wish I bought years ago. If I could only have one, this would be it. This could be my only drum machine too. Don’t miss out on it any longer.
CJ Muria,
Simply Amazing
I bought this synth many years ago when it first launched and I wasn’t into synths very much yet. Fast forward 5 years and I have bought over 15 synths from vintage analog to new hybrid. This version of the Odyssey keeps up with the best of my real life synths. Not only does it sound great, but also has multi-voice polyphony, incredibly real sounding filters, and effects modules that further make this synth one of the most versatile I’ve ever used. Running my iPad’s output into my audio interface and an analog outboard sweetener makes this synth indispensable for creative noodling to recording. I’m glad I pulled the trigger on this so long ago, because this synth is easily one of my favorite virtual synths ever made.
Awesome synth,
Excellent, but problematic
I have just purchased ODYSSEi, and for the most part, really like it. It's more like a true analog synth, with respect to programming, than most of my other iOS synth apps. This doesn't make it one of my favorite apps, but in terms of workflow, it's pretty analog. I am not hugely enamored with most of the stock sounds, but in a matter of a few minutes, I was able to tweak a few to my liking. What I find odd is that in hardware, Korg is truly one of my favorites, but I find this to be far from true in the iOS Korg app world. Inside of Gadget, ODYSSEi runs under a different name, and appears to underwhelm, severely. First of all, user edits in ODYSSEi don't show up when it's opened up in Gadget, which makes it almost useless for me, with respect to Gadget. Secondly, almost all the arps don't work when the app is opened up in Gadget. What a bummer, Korg!
Drum and Bum,
Great sounds but needs more
This is a very good app, with tons of sounds and lots of control. The only problem is the Gadget doesn't have the original arpeggiator that makes some presets sound great, and I want to use it in songs within extra routing. Also, is there a solution for the silence if used with Audiobus and GarageBand? Either way, definitely a must, and you should check it out if it goes cheap. Also got the in-app purchased and they're good too. If you're wondering if you're going to pick between this and Module, get this first. Let's hope they update this with more presets like Gadget!
GtrGeorgeDC,
FANTASTIC, But…
The ARP Odyssey was my first synth, back in 1978.
As someone who had the original hardware, and used it for many years, I can report that this thing sounds great. All the switches and sliders do what they’re supposed to, and the bits that KORG added (effects & sequencer) are fabulous.
But there are some serious problems, which I have requested fixes for, and have never been addressed.
#1: the EQUAL/ANALOG switch. This has no business being there at all; all the ANALOG setting does is simulate an out-of-calibration Odyssey. This is not “the unique character of the Odyssey”, it’s a flaw, which I spent considerable $$ to keep in adjustment while I had my Odyssey. In itself, this is not a problem; I just leave that switch on EQUAL. But that switch does not exist in the Lexington gadget, and it is locked into the ANALOG mode, with the result that any 2-oscillator sounds are progressively more out of tune the further you get from the center of the keyboard.
#2: NO MIDI Program change capability.
#3 NO AUv3 capability.
If this stuff ever gets fixed, I’ll change my rating to 5 stars immediately. In the meantime I’ll try to make do. It still sounds fantastic…
Myrkskog,
Needs an update. Still sounds cool. I pray for audio units each night before bed.
Tempo control is tough on this because you only have one way... the apps way. Please add link or external tempo control! The more I use gadget and this synth I realize that korg needs to get on the audio unit bandwagon because I hate how taxing gadget can get when you really stack things up. They need to implement track freezing in that too! It would be great wouldn’t it. 🤪 As far as my review for this synth goes, it’s got awesome arpeggios and oscillators, but all the cool stuff is in the apps presets that sadly don’t get included in the gadget presets. Pick up an arpeggiator app like StepPolyArp or Rozeta sequencer suite and Aum until midi clock in is supported!
Stevo3985,
No MIDI Learn Capability?
I find this app to sound really great, but I am beyond disappointed that this app does not have MIDI learn capability. IT IS 2019!!! Sound quality is sort of nullified by the fact that a fundamental piece of the ODDYSSEi puzzle is missing. How is it even possible that an app like this could be so expensive, when it lacks one of the simplest, yet most important features of musical performance?

For the sound quality, I have given a bonus star, but this really is no more than a 1 star app without MIDI learn or even a mention of CC signals or channels in the manual (I read the manual cover to cover last night). I have many of the other apps and 4 hardware instruments made by KORG, so it is obvious that I am a fan, but this is just unacceptable. Get your act together, KORG! You are better than this.
Strizbiz,
Great but issues that should be fixed a long time ago
Great for the most part although it crashes when trying to import user presets, that should have been fixed by now, seems like a Korg is in no hurry to get rid of bugs. But further more, I’ve pretty much bought everything Korg has made for IOS minus ikaossilator IELECTRIBE Gorillaz edition, and IDS 10 ( I may get the IDS10 at some point....maybe). But.....Korg really needs to look into porting their apps to Audio Unit, because at some point I’m going to stop buying music apps that don’t support AUV3. I don’t buy stand along apps that don’t have plug in versions on my Mac and I’m slowly but surely heading in that direction on my Ipad.
John Rofrano,
Sounds just like the original!
I owned the original white ARP Odyssey for many years and I kept the "Perform! on the ARP Odyssey Synthesizer" with Roger Powell book of patches and I've added these patches to my ODYSSEi and they sound exactly as I remember them. All of the settings are true to the original.

This app is so realistic that I bought a 12.9" iPad Pro just so that the interface could be almost as big as the original. I also purchased the Rev 1 skin and program pack just so that I could have the white interface that I remember owning. It is so awesome to have an ARP Odyssey again. You won't be disappointed.
karrrrrrrpediem,
Great way to learn about and play on a vintage synth
So I’ve had this app for about 3 months maybe, and I found It really frustrating at first, but a few online tutorials and many hours of experimentation later I got the hang of things. I know this app could be slightly better in how it plays with other apps, but earlier today when I was in samash I was able to walk up to the Karp odyssey they had as a floor model and I was able to dial in some cool patches and make a full analogue synth sound great all from studying only the app version. In my opinion that deserves 5 stars.
