Description

The #1 athletic log software since 1990 for Macintosh and iOS, with instant synchronization between different versions using Dropbox! Keep track of workouts in multiple sports - running, cycling, swimming, or anything else.

o Log distance, time, pace (enter any two and the third is calculated), sport, route/workout, and notes.
o "Autofill" of memorized routes let you enter all the information (expect, typically, time) on your regular routes with one operation
o "Keywords" let you track and graph any numerical quantity, e.g., weight, ascent, etc.
o Add an image to entries in the log - a photo you took, a map of your route, your heart rate graph, a race photo, etc.
o Totals and graphs by week, month, or year for time or distance, as well as for any other numeric quantity - weight, ascent, etc.
o Powerful selection criteria lets you pick out workouts by date, distance, time, pace, or a word or phrase in the route or note, then look at your log, totals, and graphs of just those workouts.
o iPad version now optimized for use on M1 Macs, allowing full synchronization between copies running on iPhone, iPad, and Mac using Dropbox™.

o Improved auto-scaling for graphs with large numbers on y-axis
o Labeling of graphs of quantities > 1000 improved with use of "K"

2.1.2
2010-01-22
Fixed a bug which caused incorrect weekly totals in time zones east of Greenwich (workouts on the "weekly starting day" were totaled in the previous week by mistake).

stevehanks,
Will not sync with Dropbox
This app does not sync with Dropbox as advertised, despite two months of promises that it will. Otherwise it would be great.
dogodot,
finally UPDATED
update to my review:

Night Mode is broken. iPad app is still not sized for full screen. I hope the developer plans to continue revitalizing this very useful app.
————————

I started using Athlete’s Diary about 1996, and have stuck with it, even though it hasn’t been updated for the last four years! I thought for sure its days were numbered. It never transitioned to larger phone screens (iPhone X). But it continued to log thousands of entries, reliably. During the interim, I sent emails to the developer, but didn’t receive a reply. This morning, I was shocked and delighted to see an update on my phone. The Athlete’s Diary is a warhorse of logbook software. It can seem limited, without a lot of flair—some of the icons look to be pre-retinal display—but its features are essential. I have nearly 16,000 entries logged into it, and I don’t think it’s ever crashed. I hope it continues to get updated in the years ahead. (PS, I hope The Athlete’s Diary on my Mac and iPad have been updated too!)
bikingrunner,
Paper & pen convert...
It's tough to find a training log as customizable as paper & pencil, but this one finally fit the bill. It logs all the pertinent info, totals it, is searchable, has plenty of space for notes & route info, & allows for many differnt sports. The biggest plus is the ability to download/upload btw iPhone & computer (works with separately sold software - unfortunately extra $$, but worth it for bigger picture & alternate info views). Graphically this app isn't very good looking compared to others, but I got over it. Also, it doesn't allow for a training week's totals to start on Monday (Sun only)...but the developers promise that this is coming in future updates. An expensive app, but really the only one of its kind...very worth it.
brothermanonline,
Dear Diary…
Been using this app for years, then recently it stopped working. I contacted support and got crickets. So, for months nowI’ve been unable to log my workouts. I certainly wouldn’t buy this app again.
Bramos09,
Best Running Log!!!
I've been using the Athlete's Diary for a month and have been very pleased with the app. I use this daily as a journal for my daily runs. I needed a log app that catered to my training (regular training, intervals, racing) and detailed the distance, time, pace, total runs, etc. Many of the running log apps were lacking in functionality even though they have the capability to track the runs via GPS (iPod Touch or iPhone). I don't run with my iPhone and heck I have even put the watch away when I'm running my regular 10 to 14 miles runs. For some of us, we already know our running routes so I know how far I'm running. The time and pace feature is really important during the days I run my interval workouts or run races. This app is not just for runners as it allow you to customized the type of training so swimmers and cyclist can use this too. It's actually a multi-sport journal. This was the one app the I wanted on the iPhone and I waited patiently when it was first announced that the software would be ported to the iPhone. Simply the best and oh I stop using my running log in my macbook and have been using the Athlete's Diary as my primary running log.
inlinefox,
TAD is the best activity tracking software I
The Athlete's Diary is awesome! I've been using it for years on my desktop computer and Treo to track my training progress. If fact, it was the only reason I was holding onto my Treo! TAD had become so important to my daily training that I was still using my Treo even though I canceled the phone service months ago when I got my iPhone!

The Athlete's Diary is super easy to use. Just enter your time and distance and TAD does the rest. Use the graphs to see your daily, weekly, monthly, yearly totals. Filter by activity or favorite route to see your progress leading up to a major race or competition. The Autofill feature to makes data entry even faster by automatically filling in the info you care most about. I use it to prompt me to record my heart rate, max speed, and route conditions in the Comments section. Your possibilities are endless.

So, thank you Stevens Creek, for finally bringing TAD to the Apps Store. My iPhone is complete...for now!!
Area45LA,
Works Ok
After many attempts I was able to get my log to transfer over from my 3GS to the 4S phone. Emailing to gmail, then on my laptop copying and pasting into the body of a new email, followed by emailing to the new phone was what finally did it for me. All my info appears to be there, however the app still crashes when trying to see the Totals in the Monthly and Yearly views. Weekly view appears to work ok. I was able to input a new work out and it saved ok.

I really like this app, so I'm glad that you are keeping it going. Once all the views work again I'll update to five stars.
icanwait,
No iPhone features
For $20, I was certain that this program would have taken advantage of the new iPhones GPS capability or at a minimum the built-in clock to time workouts. Sadly, neither are incorporated in this product. It does however allow you to place a photo on a Journal Entry page. So if you feel the need to type a log instead of write one, or do an electronic search to find a particular workout vs. flipping the pages back in a journal, buy this product. Otherwise, keep searching.

The more I use other apps that cost 99 cents, I can't stress enough what a waste of money this $20 app is. They seem to be big on calculating the 3rd number (input time and distance and it will miraculously give you pace per whatever) but consider MotionX GPS which tracks everything.
pjritter,
Home Run!
I have been waiting for an athletic log that synchs between iPhone and desktop, and The Athletes Diary does not disappoint. The iPhone interface is elegant, simple and informative. Data download from desktop to IPhone is a breeze. Uploading from iPhone to desktop takes a few more steps, but once you get the hang of it its no problem. Outstanding responsiveness from our friends and Stevens Creek to customer interests. You will not be disappointed with The Athletes Diary!
pjritter,
Good Start - BUT
DIrections on upload/download on Stevens Creek site are unintelligible. Easy enough to download a .tad file to the phone, impossible to move data the other way. Instructions say you can email a .txt file to desktop from phone (true), but there is no way to import .txt in to the desktop program. Wished the iPhone to desktop synch worked as well as OmniFocus - another database program that synchs across iPhone and multiple computers with ease. Hopefully this can be remedied, because the interface ont eh phone otherwise looks great.
