Major new feature! You can now download songs directly from your home computer - PC or Mac - without needing to connect to the desktop version of Band-in-a-Box.

Previously the app was only useful as a client to an existing copy of Band-in-a-Box for Windows. Now anyone can download songs (via WiFi) and play them in the app.

To use the feature, go to the File menu | 'Download from PC/Mac', then follow the simple on-screen instructions to complete the download using your desktop internet browser.

Note that you would still need to connect to the desktop Band-in-a-Box version to *generate* new songs from the app.

- Downloading Band-in-a-Box song files with associated audio (mp4 files) was sometimes not working correctly.

- Playback can be started by 'double-tapping' at any bar.

BrittonDE,
It works, but it’s buggy
This app hasn’t been updated for years, despite known bugs. A significant bug is that the app display is out-of-sync when it plays songs that have three beats to a measure (e.g. 3/4 or 9/8 time signature. Another bug is that the app freezes if you happen to touch where the current song title appears. And there are other bugs. Nevertheless, the app mostly works and can be a fun practice companion.
Kkrekeler,
Great App!
I downloaded this app once before and couldn't figure it out once the server screen came up. Then I read all the terrible reviews and decided it wasn't worth the trouble. But then I decided to spend some time figuring it out and found that this app is really cool. I have a MacBook Air, so I can't actually create or modify songs on the app, but that's fine. Here's what I can do. I use Mac BIAB to create a BIAB file (MGU or SGU) and render it as an audio file. Then I save/export BOTH files to Dropbox. Thought the IOS app, I download BOTH files (that's the trick - your need both files!). Now when I select OPEN on the IOS app, the name of the song appears, and I can open it. It sounds great (since it's an MP4) and since the MGU/SGU is open too, the chord changes appear on the screen like they do in the desktop BIAB. So I can now use my iPhone or iPad with my piano and play through songs without having to set up a laptop. There needs to be specific Mac instructions so more people can figure this out. My only complaint about PGmusic is that they are so Windows-centric. But the new BIAB 2016 is fantastic for Mac so I can't complain too much.

Poor design
This is totally dumb, a) if you dont already own Band in a Box, this is useless. B) if you already own Band ina Box, why mess with a very limited iPad version that requires you to connect, download, and virtually do everything in the version in your server, no this is not a stand alone or even slimmed down version of BIAB. This is basically nothing, which requires you to spend a ton of time figuring OUT it is nothing, dont mention trying to find your server Ip address at the bginning. Waste of time and effort,
AlastairLC,
Terrific! But needs an update.
I've been using BIAB for years to create backing tracks. I do that on my desktop version, then transfer them to my iPad version. The iPad sits comfortably on my music stand next to my lead sheets (which are on an IPad Pro) so that the audience doesn't see any electronics. It does need an upgrade though, particularly a button to change a song to the next one in a single step.
Pala K.,
App doesn’t work as well as it might
STILL waiting for them to fix this app as it would be handy to have the files I made on my computer on my iPad and phone, but they are too busy inventing new bells and whistles instead of assuring their present offerings work properly. It would be easy enough for the developers to fix the bugs and give a RECENT update or take the App in the App store down altogether. PG Music standards are usually good but they sure missed the mark here!
BBA2VT,
Useless App
Couldn’t run a song downloaded from my MacPro without being on WIFI and remembering the IP address of my Mac. What the hell good is that when you’re away from home? Love my laptop version. Hate this app. I can understand they don’t want to give full functionality to an app, but not being able to just play something you’ve already created and downloaded to iPad is just ridiculous.
rhumbaphone,
Worst designed app in history
How many hoops does one have to jump through to get their files from their laptop to open on the iPad? Forget this, I’ll just use the IReal to practice when I’m not at home. Or... you guys can make an app that doesn’t look, feel, or work like it was made in 1989. I’d like a practice app that doesn’t take away from my practice schedule.
kityfastinbox,
Worthless
I bought the version for my laptop and wanted to use the app to work when I’m away from the computer. Sometimes ideas don’t always come when I’m in front of a computer. Would not work except using the server on my laptop. Guess I’ll have to find one that will.
Darwin456,
Junk!!
This app is junk. Tried everything I could think of to download file from BIAB. Tried Google Drive, Mac, PC - no luck. PG Music should be embarrassed to be associated with this app. If they paid a developer they should be doubly embarrassed. I don’t think they even support it. Don’t waist your time and effort.
hammerken,
Doesn’t work , will not connect
After spending about an hour looking a the tutorial to connect, it would not work. Would have been a great ideal but so poorly documented that I never could get it working. So the wrap up. Band in the box program on PC , brilliant. The app, no go. Just a headache for over an hour. Booooo.
