Description

While we've received alot of great feedback about Banjo Companion, there were some complaints.

"In landscape mode the fretboard is backwards!", people complained.

"What about lefties?", several of you asked.

"How about European notation?"

"This isn't really a teaching app."

We've fixed a lot of these problems. The fretboard now turns the correct way on the iPad landscape. Lefty mode for Lefties. European and Japanese notations.

The "teaching app" part is more difficult. But we have come up with a couple of tools that we'd love you to check out:

* Patterns - learn scales up and down the neck, and cool ways to play them. These are almost like song idea generators. Seriously, randomly switch through a few, and see if you start to hear a song.
* Favorites - create songbooks. Jot down interesting chords (or scales) you're trying to remember.

We've also simplified the pricing. The All Access Pass gives you everything. Ad free, all the skins and beat packs, all the alternate tunings. And in the new Patterns feature, you'll see some "advanced" patterns - these are also included with the All Access Pass. And just think - if we can sell enough of these passes, we can make a living at it, and spend all day thinking about how to make YOU a better Banjo player. It's like... seeing into the future, and being awed at how good a Banjo player you've become. In the future, Banjo Companion keeps getting better and better, and you use it, like, all the time. Future You seems really happy. And your future self looks at you through the time portal, and happily shouts "It's worth it! The All Access Pass is totally worth it!"

And like before, there are some other features worth mentioning:

- Huge lists of chords and scales, and a ton of alternate tunings
- Zoom mode. See everything bigger.
- On the neck, display notes, intervals, finger positions
- Metronome and drum beats. Accompany thyself. (Beats go great with Patterns, by the way!)
- Manually strum the chords (and now scales), and hear how it's supposed to sound
- Skins. Several flavorful colors to choose from
- Tuner pegs. Simple. Effective. Within the mathematical reaches of our programmer.

Thanks for checking us out! We would love to hear what you think of Banjo Companion, and things you need that would make you a better Banjo Player.

MPGraves,
Fret Board Position Markings
I love this app. Position Markings or fret numbers on the side would be helpful. I’d prefer markings or side dots.
Jimmy fgtfhyf,
The best!
I use this app almost daily. It is easy to use and very helpful.
Skinsg,
Huge list of tunings
Great resource to quickly look up scales and chords for dozens of banjo tunings
moniker999,
Where are the fret markers?
No fret markers on the fret board makes me think someone without banjo background wrote this. Where are the pentatonic scales? Also, it looks like all scales are single string without melodic based scales (Keith style).

Tuner soso
Their are other appa that are much better tuners, apps that can actually listen to the banjo.
Misti5150,
I'm a beginner and use this app everyday.
I just started playing the banjo 10 days ago (my first instrument to learn), and I have used this app since the first day. It does have several features that I don't understand yet, but (again) I am just starting out and haven't learned much yet. I use this app to help me tune my banjo, learn/check my chords, and I use the metronome all the time. I didn't give it give 5 stars only because I am not experienced enough to rate all the other features yet.
macborgie,
Wonderful tool
This is a wonderful tool to assist beginners on learning chord fingering.
Ryan Idol,
Thank you!
With the new update this app is amazing. It is so useful for learning scales and understanding melodies and music theory on banjo. This is exactly what I was looking for, and I am extremely grateful that this app was shared with me for free. Now that the chord list is complete and the scales actually identify the interval number it will be used all the time. It truly is a banjo companion, not just a novelty app for children. Thank you for respecting the banjo and offering something special to the banjo community. I will happily support future expansion and a paid banjo application if that is the direction this app is heading. I think every banjo player should own this application and I hope it continues to grow. Thanks again, it is truly appreciated!!
YoshBear,
Some nice features, BUT.....
This app has some nice features and an attractive UI but falls short in a couple of areas. Mainly, and for me this is a biggie, there are no fret numbers. When it displays a chord diagram. You have to physically count the frets on the neck diagram. Was the root note on the 8th fret or was it the 9th? Does your pinkie go on the 11th or 12th...Let me count again. Very impractical at a jam or rehearsal and you need to find a D6/9 or Cmaj7 or a G#dim quickly.

Showing the whole neck on the screen is nice but makes the chord diagrams and the dots with the intervals/notes VERY small. It might be more practical to only show half the neck at a time making all the diagrams twice as large.
Yoskormyer,
Great app
If you wanna learn how to play the banjo here it is. It doesn't show you picking patterns but that's for you to learn, makes playing with friends much easier, when they are playing a wrong chord on guitar or saying its a chord that its not I look it up on guitar companion and there it is. The new update is wonderful I could not figure out d minor 9th on the banjo but now all the chords are here.
