stzim,
Fantastic App!
As soon as the clinic recommended this app to teach food intake even six months prior to my scheduled surgery, I downloaded and started using it. Even though I’ve successfully lost weight four times previously (I’m horrible at keeping it off) I had never tracked my food intake and considered it a waste of time - that was until I started using this app. It has been so helpful and informative in helping me lose weight prior to surgery and I’m convinced it will be a critical tool to use after surgery. I am able to view my caloric, water, and other macronutrient intake with informative graphs. I am easily able to enter information into the app and it does the rest. Remarkable! With this app I can clearly see how many calories per day I’m taking in and on my Apple Watch I can clearly see how many calories I’m burning up. I have compared this with other subscription apps and this one is superior and, for now, it is FREE! I only wish the hospital I’m associated with worked directly with this app.
NHFAN,
Great app overall-lacking a very important feature
Overall this is one of the better tracking apps. The barcode scan works great, and if it doesn’t recognize something, will have you send a pic of the nutrition label so they can add it to their database

The feature to add your own recipes needs a lot of work. Adding foods by barcode works nicely, but the portion size does not show correctly on the confirmation screen. Typing in ingredients leaves you at the mercy of their software how a food is listed in their database. For example, if you enter “Beyond Sausage”, it only “sees” sausage and calculates for that. You need to know that the database calls it “plant-based sausage, hot Italian”. I can work around those issues though. However the biggest deficiency is that once you Save a recipe to your recipes, you can never go back to edit it. Say you make meatloaf with 85/15 burger one time, but 93/7 the next. Or you decide to skip the yogurt in your usual smoothie recipe. There is no way to go back to a saved recipe and tweak the ingredients. You have to re-enter the whole recipe again. This is a dealbreaker for me, since I never cook anything the same way twice.

Love the vitamin tracking for all my post surgery requirements. Make the recipe feature editable after saving and I’ll go back immediately

Cumbersome
While this app is designed to help bariatric patients the functionality is basic. I cannot for the life of me figure out why this app would not interact with or be compatible with MyFitnessPal. The 2 most irritating features is the inability to log food in a quick and concise manor and the inability to properly log workouts. I have to go on MyFitnessPal and then copy the information in this app. It does not make we want to log anything. Most times the food I want to log is not even in this app which is goofy. I don’t want to spend 15 minutes trying to figure out how to log a meal. That’s ridiculous!
2nd if this app interacts or has a plugin with the Apple Health app then why doesn’t it log the workouts properly. It haphazardly logs a workout. There is not calories from workout taken into consideration or even track for that matter. My daily activity doesn’t show on my report. My active calories burned and exercise does not even make it to my doctor for an accurate picture. Since I’m forced to use this app instead of MyFitnessPal by my doctor I prefer it to be complete with similar functionality. Please fix these plugins.

Should be great but...
This app is overall very well made. It has all the features you need after bariatric surgery including water logging for free. It tracks macros well. It’s intuitive and easy to use. So why only 2 stars? A lot and I mean a lot of the nutrition information is wrong when you add a food that’s in the database. There’s also a lot that’s not there at all. To address this they have a very handy “request a product update” feature that allows you to take a picture of the product and the package. You also use the same thing for products not in the database. Okay you say so still why 2 stars? Well it appears these updates go to an unused folder somewhere at the app developers offices because I’ve requested the same items updated many times over months now and nothing has been fixed. The new items I eat that are not in the database? Yeah they have never been added either. It’s really to bad. This app would be great if they kept up to date with the proper nutrition. If you use it be careful. You could end up quite a ways off on your macros by just blindly trusting their data. If they ever start to update products again I’ll revise this review.

Best Fitness Tracking APP Out There
I LOVE this app! After sleeve surgery, I thought I didn’t need a tracking app, but BARITASTIC has changed my whole perspective! It has everything I need & a few cool extras! I’ve been able to increase my protein, water, & reduce carbs since using this app. I get excited when I see my total weight (since surgery) drop every day. My DR & many of his patients are on the Keto Diet. I showed the app to my DR & he LOVED it! He was using a very popular app created for fitness tracking. Not anymore. He now uses it & refers his patients to Baritastic. Love that Baritastic shows net carbs, journaling, & option for reports! Links to support group & creating reports. Not only is it incredibly useful, but it has a FUN interface. I look forward to entering my numbers. I realize that may sound weird, but it’s not a chore to enter your data - quick & seamless. Very interactive & extremely helpful to keep me on target! Try it out - it’s FREE! Thank you BARITASTIC, you guys ROCK!
BillzTG,
Awesome app!
I have been using this for 14 days now and it is incredibly useful. I am an old school write on paper kind of person but have been making myself use this every day. Yes there are some fixes that could make entering things easier but this is a free app so I don't complain. I think that the developers will make adjustments they just need to know what they are. Coming out of VSG surgery there were many people and apps that try and help you through your journey, this one is a good one. You have to find what works for you. My journal entries have allowed me to post my BP and vitamins/medications in an easy format that my primary care Dr. and surgeon could read easily with a swipe of the screen versus having to go through a paper journal book. Thank you!
iPhone resister,
Useful but needs more
I like it. I use it. However when creating recipes of my own, not only do I like to see my actual recipe and use it. I like to actually SEE how much of what’s in it. It only shows the info I input for the recipe but not how much, how big an actual serving is. Now I have to use two apps. A recipe app I can edit in how much of something I see before and changed it if needed, make it have more or less servings depending on how well the recipe was used. They should also add a notes section to the recipe, this is where I put reminders etc.

The other data is good. I would like to daily add my vitamins and meds. Some I don’t take every day. Some I take several times throughout the day. I’d like to annotate each time, not just the generic one they have now. It’s not useful at all. Overall I am continuing to use it but we’ll see longer term. Drs office recommended it but does not use it themselves so 🤷🏻‍♀️.

About to delete…
I used this app everyday for 3.5 months and it was great, but now the updates have made it extremely buggy.

Half the time the scanner doesn’t work right. When I go to edit units I now have to delete everything when putting in a number where as before it would override. The decimal function is worse bc you always have to start with a number (even 0). They moved the add food button. But what’s the worst is half the time the app crashes or says to check MY internet… My internet is just fine, everything hooked up and every other app is working just fine. It’s this app and it’s becoming annoying that I can’t use it like I used to. I wouldn’t mind the scanner, decimal and number feature, or the add food feature changing if the upload actually worked.

You guys really need to fix this update asap or you will lose another user.
amandaayyy,
5 stars, full stop
I’ve used several logging apps, including paid apps. Baritastic is absolutely the best I have used. User friendly, great support. It shows me what I need to see in order to be successful after my VSG surgery. Some things that make it TIP TOP: it shows protein first, that’s the biggest goal. There’s a place for vitamins and hydration. Timers for drinking and chewing. The feature for adding my own recipes is AMAZING, just incredibly useful. Love that I can use different measurements in logging. My calories are displayed prominently. I can log my physical weight, and look back at my progress. Those are just SOME things that make this app the best. It’s pretty, easy to use, doesn’t glitch, it’s very encouraging. I’m super grateful to the developers for making such a useful tool.
ZombiefiedMaggie,
I love it!
I'm updating my review. I've used this app from the week of my surgery which was approximately 9 months ago. I love it all. It keeps track of my water intake, my weight, my food journal and even how I'm feeling for the day. It took me a few tries to figure out the recipe section but now I use it all the time! My only issue is the update, I has caused issues with my app. BUT I have contacted customer service and they are very prompt, very helpful and get the job done. I've tried other apps before and they all want you to update to premium and they aren't for the bariatric community. This is the best app you can use if you've had any type of surgery, whether you're pre-op, post op or maintaining. Just download it now, you won't regret it!
