CHAUVET DJ has a long history of developing cutting-edge lighting technologies. Once again CHAUVET DJ ushers in a new era of wireless lighting control with the introduction of BTAir, an app that uses Bluetooth™ wireless technology to control CHUAVET DJ Bluetooth™ enabled lights directly from a phone or tablet without any additional hardware needed.
App does some very basic things. The main attraction of Bluetooth connectivity is to remotely control some lights. It turns them on and off and you can fairly easily pick one of 7 colors. Beyond that, the app is cumbersome and non-intuitive. If you want to do something different than have every light do the same thing, good luck. With a little more thought, they could have made it somewhat user friendly. The color picker does not work on an iPhone 5s. The color wheel is a grainy ellipse with a chunk missing. The missing chunk is on the opposite side of the screen. It works better on an iPad but still not that great. Selecting colors is hit or miss. All look whiter than what you expect. A better option is to find a led color chart on the web and use the sliders to choose a color by the numbers.
MichiganMan83,
Good start, but frustrating limitations.
Love the fact that I have a solid BT 12-light colorbar. Love that I can set up programs on the iPhone and make things happen live. Will probably love getting the cool footswitch to change programs during a tune.
WOULD love to have the three-zone functionality as promised by the specs and app descriptions, but the app's custom zone funtionality just flat-out doesn't work. (See edit below.) It would be so, so much cooler to have three different colors washing our little band and changing as we play. But nope. One color and one color only.
EDIT: Adding a star to note that it does work, but only if you have Bluetooth 4.2. This is noted on the website, but not in the app's specs in the App Store. My iPhone 6 obviously does not, but my iPad does.
Now... PLEASE give me the ability to display three different colors at the same time and fade between different color combinations. This is a three-zone light, but the app only provides a single-color zone chase. Great light, but disappointed at the unnecessary limitations of the app that in turn limit the light. Hoping for true three-zone functionality in a near-future update!

Please Add Tempo Tap
As a live sound engineer, having effects play along to the tempo of a song is crucial. And often bands don’t play to a metronome so having tempo tap effects elevate the show to a high level. The same should be said for these lights and this app. “Sound activated” is delayed and not tight. But tempo tapping would be perfect. If lights and colors faded or switched to the tempo I’m tapping into the app it would be next level.
My x32 app for sound does tempo tap for effects, so this should be possible with mobile apps for lighting as well. Someone dropped the ball not having this as an option. Hope you all can add it ASAP.
luisthedrummer,
Not Bad, needs big improvements
The app is ok. Pros: you don’t have to go through settings to connect the fixture(s). You can save scenes and recall them. Most of the cons are: I wish the color wheel reacted live to the color you are scrolling through. You cannot use the ‘Sound Activated’ at all, the app closes out immediately. Using a fixture that has zones, the zone chases do not work either, nor can you choose certain sections and mix colors on them separately. Wish there was a ‘fade’ option to go from color to color in the ‘fixed’ tab, and scene to scene when doing playback selections, instead of a harsh jump to the color/playback chosen.
monkeyboyrogue,
Really? Only one FIXED color? No saved or presets?
This app doesn’t need much to make it great. The biggest (and silliest) issue I can see is that you cannot save ‘FIXED’ colors. It would be so useful to be able to save a couple of basic preset colors rather than have to go into the color wheel/slider part and manually adjust EVERY SINGLE TIME.
Even just a couple of saved FIXED colors. Heck, even a ‘back’ button to go back to the prior one you were using.
If you want to get fancy, an option to transfer with crossfade from one fixed color to another would be perfect but I’d take just a basic switch.
PLEASE READ THIS AND UPDATE!
samcard1,
Always been trash
I have 24 Chauvet EZLink par 4BTs. They have worked okay with the app on both my iPad and iPhone. I had crashes and all the features were laggy and hard to use. I didn’t work during the pandemic. Return to my first gig back and the app freezes during pairing or will not pair at all on both phone or iPad. Updated the app and the devices...nothing works. Truly insane that I spent close to 6k and the app just stops working for no reason. It’s been years of this app being trash, but it not working at all is just wild to me. Will be looking for other lighting options ASAP.
edwardejr,
Please fix this bug
This app use to work great, but ever since my phone auto updated the app there appears to be a regression. For example, the app crashes as soon as you select sound activated. This is the option that allows the lights to flash along with the music. Select this and it crashes. You guys should roll back to what ever the last version of this app was because I can’t use these lights right now. Is there a Hot fix or something? Who tested this? How did they miss this bug? If you need your versions verified before releasing them into production I would be more than happy to verify them for you.
Devices: iPhone 8 and iPhone 6 both on the latest version iOS 12
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open app
2. Wait for app to connect to lights via Bluetooth
3. Select ‘sound activated’. This is the last option at the bottom
Actual results: app crashes
You’re welcome

Latency
The biggest con I see is latency. If you use more than one group it changes each group one at a time when you change scenes in playback.
Also the fade speed is too fast even on slow. Instead of slow being 30 seconds it’s more like 2 seconds.
When you click on the group to edit it later the fonts and background are both white so you can’t see what you are editing.
TRAZytraz,
Perfect for basic lighting and ambiance
Very important to note that this is not an app to replace professional DMX software or professional applications. However this is a great app to easily select colors dimming and strobing from a compatible CHAUVET lighting fixture. Easy to use and easy to group fixtures. I hope you remember this is a Bluetooth enabled app and Bluetooth with lighting has limits.
johnnyscreams,
Disappointing
While I understand this is not supposed to be a main control hub for full time use. I work full time as a content creator for a company as well as a self employed creator. And my colorband40’s are on multiple shoots, live streams and miscellaneous productions. I now am faced with needing to look into a 3rd party dmx controller because the app consistently crashes on my iPhone 13 Pro. If I understand correctly, this app was designed for people like me. And the unreliable app has created consistent challenges in my professional life.
