phdchild,
Adjectives a winner!
Comparisons taught early like this is essential for pre-schoolers! My child can already guess the answer because there are too many repeats using the same pictures. I could give a five star if you use the same pictures but asked for the opposite of what you just asked for. It repeated who was the tallest woman about five times with the exact same picture within less than four minutes!
My kid is four and a half and has aced it! More randomization? Otherwise, excellent, as are all the rest!
flip0295,
Hope the next version is useable...
A few changes would make this a great app. When teaching adjectives evidence suggests that you need many exemplars and to teach opposites. It is great that I can toggle off all adjectives except the two I am teaching and make those two contrastive. Big issue is that if I only toggle on short and tall - all I get are variations of tall and short children and adults. I can’t see myself using this in a session when I can download a free worksheet on tall vs short and get a dozen exemplars (e.g short building vs tall building, tree, plant, animal etc) and easily pull it up on my iPad.

Also, if I turn all sounds off, there is no written question prompt so you are forced to have the sound on.

I recommend the makers of this app read “Theoretical Principles to Guide Teaching of Adjectives to Children....” It’s open source
if you are an SLP and ASHA member.
kenzrbv,
No words
The idea is great but there are no words like shown in preview pictures. Won’t be able to use volume in setting.

kristalena,
Great concept, poorly executed
I love the concept of this app, but it leaves much to be desired. I'm a Speech Pathologist and I work on comparatives/superlatives and adjectives quite often with my students. There is great variety in the concepts used and I appreciate being able to turn off concepts that are too easy or too difficult for my students. However, I really wish there was a way to track data and use it with multiple students at the same time. I'm always disappointed when I have to pull out my pen and paper to take data. I also wish I had the option to move to the next screen manually. I often want to teach or re-teach a concept if a student doesn't immediately choose the correct answer. My students usually notice that they've made the wrong choice when the screen doesn't move, so they pick the right one before I have a chance to stop them and discuss it.
I teach first grade,
Some choices are a matter of personal opinion
Some of the choices are harder for young children to know which is the correct choice. Some of the questions are a matter of preference, or opinion which again make it difficult for young children. This app would be more suited for older students who could understand the concepts better and a better understanding of the world, but it is too childish for older children. It only let's students choose the correct answer. There is no feedback, or response until they choose the correct answer. I literally tapped around all over the space, on and off the picture choices and nothing happened until I tapped on the correct answer.

I run a reading centre for kids who are learning in their 2nd language at an English medium school in South Africa. This is a fantastic game for the kids as it works on comparative language and basic vocabulary at the same time. The pictures are relevant, bright and clear. I love the fact that it can be customized to include and exclude specific words. The word "sweet" in this context was a new one for the kids but they caught on quickly that this meant well done! I really like being able to get back to the home screen at any time. Thank you!

2ndXmom,
Very good overall
Nice photos and errorless play. Some of the items are more abstract (which bicycle is faster - 2 bikes standing still). Verbal reinforcement alone will likely not provide continued motivation for my students. More significant reinforcement periodically (stickers, levels, pieces to complete a puzzle, etc.) would help. Feature to include calculation of %ages for correct, incorrect, & # of attempts would also be helpful.
momtonat,
Really like this!
I like that you can switch off some of the words and omit some of the "praise" phrases. The reviewer who said that hair or people shouldn't be used needs to get over being PC! some people have curlier hair than others and some people really are shorter or taller than others and it is ok to say so! It's not only sticks and French fries in this world that are different than each other.
AdriFonta,
Please
Make it for teachers to be able to have a students roster so we can keep track of each student's success. I have been using it all week and the kids love it and I can see they're are learning, specially the ones who lack fluency in English as most of my ESL students are.
